You should have been here in Wyoming in Gillette last year! We had baseball sized hail that trashed our roof, screens, apples, tomatoes and some flowers. We’ve had 6 hail storms so far this yr 2020 & again trashed the apples, damaged the tomatoes & pounded all my flowers to almost dust! My Shasta Daisies gave up & went to seed in July! And we live in town!

Naw, Wyomingites don't consider it windy 'till those truck tire chains hanging off the fence are standing out sideways 😁 I used to live in Rock Springs and things like wind and hail were just considered to be inconveniences, even as it destroyed your kitchen garden and shattered your windows. Just life in the land of antelope and 'jackalope'.

Very true!! My husband was up there for work, he always told me the wind wasn’t a joke. Me and our kids went up there for about 3 months and he wasn’t wrong 😂 we are from Louisiana. The only time we feel that much wind is for a hurricane lol

Hi again MIKE Can't control that darn weather! Been through many of those and way worse. Remembering water is my nemesis right now if it didn't hail the wind not blow too bad and the rain doesn't pound THEN the rain is welcomed moisture!! Always better to be safe then sorry and wow the prairie storms can really be something. Not forgetting the lightening that can do some scary damage too. Didn't see any on the vid so happy for your person not to be in danger. You did good MIKE!! Amazing when we all have to kick into high gear how fast things get done. Best to save that gear for the prairie storms lol lol lol! Dry out be safe and catcha again...

Our nephew has 4 high tunnels in NW Iowa (C Brown Gardens) with over 1000 tomato plants - he uses rebar supported by steel posts and clips the tomatoes as they grow to over your head. He alternates the spacing of the tomatoes on both sides of the rebar. Much easier to control and less stooping over to harvest the tomatoes.

I think it's a sailors term
@terribethreed8464
@terribethreed8464 4 года назад
It's a nautical term that means exactly what it says. Ships have hatches covering their holds (where they store things like their cargo) that they have to lock down & secure so they don't allow water in or get blown away by high winds.
@SherryEllesson
@SherryEllesson 4 года назад
It's a nautical term, and it applies to all "hatches" (doors) that close in such a way to keep water out of below-decks. It's a term that applies to all watercraft that has a cabin or "hold" (storage space).

Of course, no sooner than I typed that in the rain is apparently done. I used to work for John Deere and I would always tell the guys, "Nothing runs like a Deere" but if they ain't working you can outrun em!" Just curious as to your thoughts about a tarp? Maybe something that could be quickly anchored to a building and to a point on the tractor? Obviously clamps and bungees are something you've already created for an anchoring system. I'm guessing something more custom than that for the tractor is cost prohibitive?
