I like to see the whole Nexus Syphon thing as being something that's started with the advent of the Dawnbringer Crusades during the Era of the Beast. Perhaps now that magic is a bit less wild following Teclis' intervention to stop/slow down the aftereffects of the Necroquake it can be trammelled and channelled more easily by things like Nexus Syphons?

I think it's more the wall theory and that the wizards went in intentionally knowing the wall needed to be breached and that the demons could be brought to the city from the inside. Also, I keep debating about running a Pink Horror Kill Team just to be a bit of a troll as each of the 12 Pinks ends up being something like 40 wounds total to fully defeat 1 Pink.

I wish GW made stories in age of sigmar or even 40k about demons progressing up the ranks to become stronger for the chaos gods and elaborating on that back story.

One thing I like about tzeentch is that besides schemes and magic, he is also fire. And this event could just be something like a flash fire. hot, dangerous, but short. Maybe they were trying to set off a "wildfire "
