A Valley first! McAllen High student makes history on stage | McAllen ISD 

Victoria Martinez, a senior at McAllen ISD's McAllen High School, recently became the first student from the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas to earn a trip to New York's world-famous Jimmy Awards. She earned the opportunity based on her winning two Joci Awards in San Antonio on May 5, 2024, and spoke about it at the RGV Palm Awards in McAllen on May 8. The Joci's are the largest scholarship program for the performing arts in the USA. Victoria won for Best Actress in a Musical and was named the 2024 overall Joci winner. She will be the first person from the RGV to represent her region at the national Jimmy Awards in June.
She is the 2024 Texas Forensic Association State Champion in Duet Acting, a Palm Awards recipient and the 2022-23 Texas Young Master in Musical Theatre.
