A Vedic Alternative to Darwin's Theory with Michael Cremo

Michael Cremo is coauthor, with Richard Thompson, of Forbidden Archeology: The Hidden History of the Human Race. He is also author of Human Devolution: A Vedic Alternative to Darwin's Theory.
Here he points out that the Vedic cosmology of ancient India resembles scientific thinking in that it dates the universe in terms of billions of years. He suggests that conscious selves, including humans and animals, entered into earthly bodies that were prepared for them by advanced beings of higher awareness. He describes the differences between Advaita and Dvaita forms of Vedanta. His approach is of the Dvaita school, maintaining that the individual self is not identical with the supreme self of all universes.
New Thinking Allowed host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, hosted and co-produced the original Thinking Allowed public television series. He is a past vice-president of the Association for Humanistic Psychology; and is the recipient of the Pathfinder Award from that Association for his contributions to the field of human consciousness exploration.

Dear, I would like to know your thought on Varaha Avatar or Bohr who saved Earth from sinking.. Please check the below sculpture of 8th Century in temple at Karnataka India. commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:8th_century_Durga_Surya_temple_Varaha_avatar_of_Vishnu_with_Bhudevi,_Aihole_Hindu_temples_monuments.jpg images.app.goo.gl/aqNoLiyT1vNDktKM9 It clearly shows that shape of earth is round. Now do you feel also that Vedvyas who had written Vishnu Purana knew that Earth is round? The shape of earth is round is discovered by Gallelio in 1633 and Church admitted on 2013. Europe did not admit until Apollo sent images of earth from space. So the artist who made the sculpture of Varaha Avatar in 8 the century already knew that Earth is round?

I've personally served him a few times when he came to Canada. One thing thing he doesn't advertise is that he actually practices what he studies from the Srimad Bhagavatam, which is the "cream of the Vedas". You'll notice his Tulsi neck beads and some other video his shikka. He is practicing the ancient Aryan way of devotion to God, Krishna. He knows much, much more. Basically, he is not an intellectual who simply appreciates the wisdom of the Vedas, he lives his life accordingly. This is why he is so eloquent and reserved. He is a disciple of the great spiritual master Srila Prabhupada.

@@1godonlyone119 No. A Hindu does not follow any other religion, just like any religionist. We are all actually spirit-souls -- jivatmas. God is paramatma (the great atma). This is eternal and therefore unchangeable. What is changeable (therefore meaningless) is our faith, gender, race, creed, job title, political view, etc. Sometimes one has to live a few lifetimes to experience the variety of designations, but the point is that these are all temporary designations. The main point however is that God is not a Hindu, nor Muslim nor Christian. He is God. Therefore He can speak in any language to any man (who has the heart to hear...like Jesus, Moses, Mohammed, Madvacharya, Ramanujacharya, Srila Prabhupada, etc.) to the limits that he is ready to digest.

@@nickburak7518 The word Hindu designates an ethnicity only -- not a religion or a faith. It refers exclusively to the ethnic group that is native to the Indus river valley. In order to be correctly considered a religious group, all members of the group in question must necessarily hold to the same specific set of religious or Theistic tenets. However, like Europeans, Hindus do not all hold to a single set of religious or Theistic tenets, so it would be just as incorrect to classify Hindus as a religious group as it would be to classify Europeans as a religious group: Just like Europeans, Hindus can be any religion -- Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Sikh, agnostic, atheist, or any other religion. Just as the word Norwegian designates nationality, and the word Nordic designates ethnicity, so the word Indian designates nationality, and the word Hindu designates ethnicity. The word Hindu does not appear in any of God's revealed scriptures, and it is no more a religion than Nordic, Chinese, African, Israeli, or Lithuanian could somehow be religions. The word Hindu does not connote any specific religious overtones: It designates an ethnicity only. Hindus who accept Jesus are still Hindus -- they don't become Israelis -- just as I remained Nordic-American when I accepted Jesus and I did not convert to Israeli. Although Jesus was an Israeli, simply being Israeli doesn't carry any specific religious overtones -- some Israelis are Jewish, some are Christian, some are Muslim, and some are atheist -- and being a Hindu works the same way as being an Israeli: Both Israeli and Hindu are ethnic designations only. There are Theistic people native to that region, and there are atheistic people. There are Agnostics, Voidists, Monists, and Dualists, and those are all different religions with proper names, not "Hinduism." The people practicing those different religions in that region are of the same ethnic group, not the same religious group. The name of that ethnicity is Hindu. Hindu is an ethnicity, not a religion. Nobody can name the main tenet or tenets of this supposed "Hinduism" religion, nor can anyone point out the group who all believe those tenets or that tenet. The religious traditions that I specified above don't all hold to the same tenets, which would be required in order to properly classify Hindu as a religion rather than an as an ethnicity, which is what it is.

@@1godonlyone119 Yes, yes, I see what you mean. Your comparison to "Europeans" made sense. But generally a Hindu is an Indian-bodied person who follows the Gita. Isn't it? Mind you I know many Hindus and they are more into engineering and IT than Krishna. Just like someone born in the land of Jordan, who could be either a Jew, Christian or Muslim, could be said that they are "Jordanian" ethnically, for a lack of better term. But I don't think that the typical Hindu would agree that it's an ethnic thing alone, although by their actions I can see there's only lip service to God, Krishna or Vishnu. For them their religion is their ethnicity. No? The Hindu may be an "Indian" you could say, but they aren't Muslim nor Catholic. Also I think that the Muslim wouldn't refer to himself as Indian either ... Maybe the Catholics might. Do you agree?

Of course, you are going to meditate without any disturbance in an isolated place. But the core concept is the same which is focus or concentration. it is because shiva (athma) and shakthi (universe) cannot be separated and one cannot exist without the other. In other words, shiva is also powerless without shakthi. The gap between our thoughts (shakthi) is also shiva. The space around is also a mixture of shiva and shakthi (electromagnetic waves) But individual interests to concentrate on something differ and shaped by situations and circumstances based on past karma. Delayed causation is how karma works. Remember, meditation is not the only way to connect with the cosmos.. Divine avatar krishna talks about different pathways in addition to dhayana yoga. If you believe that your visions are coming from outside of your own brain, rather than being produced by your own brain, you were never a Dawkins style "complete atheist". Your early cult training is way more influential on you than any bits and pieces of scientific knowledge you may have, and you have apparently just switched the supernatural beliefs of your old cult for new supernatural beliefs. All supernatural claims that have been tested using valid scientific research methodologies have turned out to be false claims by people who imagined that their own mental processes are coming from outside their heads. Brilliant as always. I've been to a number of his lectures and was part of the set up team in Toronto. Not that Mr. Cremo needs my intellectual help, I'd like to add that while Vedic time is cyclical, it is also linear. Mr. Cremo certainly points out the former when he speaks of the yugas, but I'm not sure if he mentioned the linear part. I mention this because the Vedas describe Time with such detail and that is worth sharing. In fact the Vedas are the first repository that speaks of time at the atomic level. Just like Inuit language has over 30 words for snow, so in Sanskrit there is a name for each cycle of time. Kshana means a "moment". Time continues on while within it there are many, many, many cycles, beginning from the first cycle of one vibration of the atom (how we actually measure time with the most accurate time piece) to two cycles of vibration of the atom all the way to the lifetime of the universe (and all cycles in between). In fact, there are 60 different years, each with their own name, and an advanced Vedic astrologer can even tell what time it is in the universe at any moment right down to the second. Isn't that incredible and inspiring?

@nickburak7518
@nickburak7518 5 лет назад
For those who are interested, Mr. Cremo actually follows Dwaita philosophy, which perfectly agrees with the Bhagavad-gita and the Vedas. It means that we eternally remain as individual souls and therefore cannot "become" God. Adwaita philosophy in the other hands assumes something rather ungodly (not unlike much of society today); that God is secondary to spirit. But this is contrary to every page of the Vedas. Dwaita philosophy is that there is God, who is the Supreme Spirit, Bhagavan, and there's also spirit. Brahman. Brahman is real and eternal. As us Bhagavan. And they are inseparable. But let's make sure to always remember that the store house of spirit -- where the individual is -- which is made of brahman nature -- is the Atman. God. Is. Atman. Atman is eternal brahman as an individual soul. This is Bhagavan. But saying "Atman" is impersonal. Why? Because God is a person. An individual no less than you and I. There's no energy, no quality that we possess that God doesn't have in full. Perfectly. The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Kṛṣṇa, is always full of six opulences-namely complete wealth, complete strength, complete fame, complete knowledge, complete beauty and complete renunciation. So Atma and brahman are inseparable. The light emenating from Krishnas body is brahman. But they are not the same thing. Jiva means individual. We are all individual souls. The children need to know this. Jiva also also means "tiny". Atomic. One ten thousandth the size of the top of the hair. But God is paramatma. Super Soul. Vibhu. Greatest. Both at same. Individual souls. But we are 'anu", tiny. Atomic. But even the tiniest bit of spirit in the form of an individual soul is powerful enough to create or manifest anything one wants... Even a planet. Nay, a universe as the creator. Now wrap your mind around that. But God has created far, far, far, more with but a spark of his splendor. So let's forget about this bogus Adwaita philosophy that basically side-steps God once and for all. Vedic knowledge describes that we cannot die or be nullified no matter what. Jiva also means eternal. Sanskrit is like that. One word, several meanings. So we are all jivas. The jivatman. One tiny individual amongst innumerable uncountable souls. So many innumerable should that even God might not be able to count, least of all speak that number -- all of eternity would be long enough to speak that number. God's body radiates all energies of existence. Brahman is not the only energy (although it is superior to all. The material energy is inferior, as it decays and transforms over time.) So God is Number One! The Christians and Catholics, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, etc., they all know this. But no says the adwaitan. He says we must anhilate the self. Nonsense. Since we know that our individual existence can never become dissolved (nullified) into the body of God, Adwaita philosophy is correct in that we can remain "inside" the body of God eternally. But no one stays eternally anyway. So like a green bird in a green tree, both individuals remaing existent, the jiva can go into a type of eternal sleep trance. The religions of Jordan all stop there as well. Rest in peace, right? It's not Dance With God, right? So. No mental activity. Inside God's body. Individual Nada. But God is so kind he allows. We have free will. God does not take that away. But there are results and consequences. So he teaches us what's what so the results are the best. But what we like isn't generally what's best for us. Thankfully God knows what we really want. Himself. He's our Father. He is the Holy Spirit. And within our own heart, where we, the individual spirit soul, jivatma, he is also there as our eternal atomic-sized witness and companion. Paramatma. So when God wants to instruct us, what he likes for us (he outta know), when he decides to personally give us valuable knowledge -- and why wouldn't he? -- he succeeds. Right? If you believe. And he succeeds in the end whether you believe it now or not. God always wins! So he speaks the highest of all knowledge exactly perfectly tailored to the listener. He knows all the languages, you know? Now if you can accept that you can actually hear Him when he speaks to you, we will both need to assume that we've already achieved God consciousness, our natural state (which in not so easy a task, mind you). Otherwise we can't be able to hear him. We need to be aware of him when he's there. Like see him, even. So we can rest in blissful peace as long as we eternal jivatmas want. However merging into the body of the Lord is not the goal, nor what God wants. It's no fun for him. And neither for us...because it's the nature of the soul to express love, and that requires desire and action. That's what I mean when I say "fun". So to end desire and loving activities in bliss and full consciousness for non-activity, though the suffering is gone, is tantamount to spiritual suicide. Nullifying the "i". No more "me" any more. And then where will I be to enjoy endless floating bliss? So it's curious what Arvind Chitale said. Bhagavad-gita 15.7: "The living entities in this conditioned world are My eternal fragmental parts." We are eternally individuals. For anyone who wants to know -- and I think Mr. Chitale wouldn't argue -- technically speaking those who follow adwaita philosophy do not fully agree with Krishna in the Bhagavad-gita. In fact the adwaitans generally have issue with the entire tenth chapter ( vedabase.io/en/library/bg/10/ ) because therein Krishna says that he is the source of everything, and this includes what all adwaitans aim for above all, merging into the brahman, the universal spirit spread everywhere. Now all Hindus agree that this text, the Bhagavad-gita, is their "bible". It is arguably the topmost book summarizing the essence of Vedic knowledge as spoken by the greatest speaker himself, Lord Sri Krishna. In Bg text 15.15 Krishna says, "...By all the Vedas, I am to be known. Indeed, I am the compiler of Vedānta, and I am the knower of the Vedas." He does not say "brahman" is to be known. He does not say to merge into his effulgence is the goal of the Vedas. He says that He is to be known. The brahman comes out of God. You can see the reference here. In the Gita Krishna confirms by saying, "I am the source of all spiritual and material worlds. Everything emanates from Me. The wise who perfectly know this engage in My devotional service and worship Me with all their hearts." B.G. 10.8. vedabase.io/en/library/bg/10/8/. Brahman is included in "everything", and devotion to God in action is the highest goal, not merging in inaction. Adwaitans are therefore understandably confused about action in inaction and inaction in action. Adwaitans may worship Krishna for some time, because they accept him as an incarnation of Vishnu, and therefore a high-level Vedic authority at least deserving same respect as their precursor, Shankaracharya. Therefore, for the adwaitan, there is no scope to interact with God as an individual, dancing, singing, feasting with all other enjoyments, forever acting spiritually with spiritual bodies (vigraha - form). Does this sound attractive to you? Therefore the adwaitans, who are impersonalists, renounce God in the end. They even renounce the renunciation -- if they ever do get that far! Esoteric this may be, but this is essentially spiritual suicide. Awaitans follow Shankaracharya, an incarnation of Lord Siva (who is himself a follower of Krishna -- he meditates on Vishnu with his rudraksha beads, as do many adwaitans), who is second to Lord Vishnu, known as the Lord of the Universe. Siva is known as the destroyer, Brahma the creator and Vishnu as the one who instructs the two. Shankaracharya philosophy is not bonafide because it does not point to Bhagavan. Krishna has no need to meditate on God for he is God. The essence of adwaita philosophy is that we and God are the same -- one -- and ends there. No. We are not God, though we are the same in quality...that we are both spirit. But only God is God. Nor can we become God. Although we can indeed merge into the light that emanates from his spiritual body (made of brahman), we maintain our individual existence. This can be understood that just as a green bird in a green tree remains a green bird there is no merging into "oneness". The oneness that Dwaitans speak of is in purpose; eternal loving exchanges with God acting (action!) according to His will. Jesus understood this. Just as we can understand that the light of the sun is non-different from the sun (in a sense), we can also understand that the light that emanates from the sun is both dependent on the sun, for the sun is the source, the light is itself not the sun. Krishna informs that he is the source of "everything". Means everything...missing nothing. So we are eternally jivas. We are made of "brahman" just as Bhagavan is made of brahman. What we must remember is that brahman is not the source of Bhagavan; it is the inverse. The true Vedantist want to get to the source. Brahman is Sanskrit simply meaning "spirit". So according to the Bahagavad-gita we learn that dwaita philosophy means that were are the same only in QUALITY, brahman, eternal, blissful, but not in QUANTITY. We are all spirit souls. We are "anu", meaning tiny or insignificant souls, while God, Bhagavan, from which emanates brahman and everything else, is "param" or "vibhu", meaning great. God is great. Allah akbar. In other words we the eternal individual jivas as parts of God (this includes all the varieties of moving and non-moving living beings) are not meant to reunify into his body; we are meant to be one in consciousness. In purpose. Service. Love in action eternally. I like that better. How about you?

ŚB 11.14.9 मन्मायामोहितधिय: पुरुषा: पुरुषर्षभ । श्रेयो वदन्त्यनेकान्तं यथाकर्म यथारुचि ॥Translation O best among men, the intelligence of human beings is bewildered by My illusory potency, and thus, according to their own activities and whims, they speak in innumerable ways about what is actually good for people. Purport Unlike the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the individual living entity is not omniscient, therefore his activities and pleasures do not represent the whole truth. According to one’s individual way of doing things (yathā-karma) and one’s personal preference (yathā-ruci), one speaks to others about what is good for them. Everyone thinks, “What is good for me is good for everyone.” Actually, the best thing for everyone is to surrender to the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Kṛṣṇa, and thus realize one’s eternal nature of bliss and knowledge. Without knowledge of the Absolute Truth, many so-called learned people are whimsically advising other whimsical people who also lack perfect knowledge of the actual goal of life. As long as the foolish spirit soul remains attracted to the material body, senses and vital force, his material existence continues to flourish, although it is ultimately meaningless.The living entity who falsely identifies with his body, senses, life air and mind, and who dwells within these coverings, assumes the form of his own materially conditioned qualities and work. He is designated variously in relation to the total material energy, and thus, under the strict control of supreme time, he is forced to run here and there within material existence. Although shadows, echoes and mirages are only illusory reflections of real things, such reflections do cause a semblance of meaningful or comprehensible perception. In the same way, although the identification of the conditioned soul with the material body, mind and ego is illusory, this identification generates fear within him even up to the moment of death. (Shrimad-Bhagavatam 11.28.12, 16 & 5) But then there is the soul who is wizened and humbled by innumerable failed attempts at staying happy in the sand castle, the soul who is gradually becoming aware of the in-built suffering of the material world, the soul willing to get to the root of it all. For such a soul, Krishna makes arrangements to impart genuine knowledge. He does this primarily through the Vedas. The Vedas are like an instruction manual for the souls in the material world. The Vedas tell us who we are, why the universe exists, and how to fulfill the purpose for which we exist. Krishna disseminates the Vedas throughout the universe, on different planets, and to different species. He does this with the cooperation of enlightened beings, who artfully impart essential truth according to the capacity of the audience and the particulars of the circumstance. Sometimes Krishna Himself descends to revitalise Vedic knowledge which is apt to be lost or misinterpreted with the passage of time. MahaVishnu is also known as Karan- Udak- Shayi(KaranodakShayi) Vishnu or the Vishnu who lays down in Causal Ocean. When He breaths out million of universes exude out from the pores of His skin. Similarly when He breaths in , all the universes again shrink into His body through the same pores. Second expansion of Vishnu is "Garbh- Udak-Shayi (GarbhodakShayi) Vishnu or the Vishnu who lays down in universal ocean. He lays down in each universe ,which is filled half with water. From His naval, a lotus originates, which is resting place of Brahma. Then lord Vishnu again expands Himself as Kshir- Udak-Shayi( KshirodakShayi) Vishnu or the Vishnu who lays down in ocean of milk. This ocean is situated in too most corner of the universe. And all these facts are vividly explained in First canto of SrimadBhagvatam or Bhagvat Purana.

Met Dr. Michael Cremo very briefly at the 2016 Simhastha Vichar Maha Kumbh Mela where he was invited to speak along with David Frawley. Needless to say, that was the highlight of the conference. They came across more authentic than any of the Indians that spoke, Prime Minister Modi included. It comes from the fact that they got to choose to adopt this culture and as outsiders have an objective and therefore deeper understanding of it. As opposed to when you are born into it. Then it becomes just an inherited tradition that you take for granted.

Trinābhicakramajaramanaryvam yenemā viśvā bhūvanāni tasthūḥ (Rg. veda 1.164.1) meaning: All the celestial bodies (Planets) are moving in elliptical orbits. 3. Cakrāṇāsaḥ pariṇahaṁ pṛthivyā (Rg. veda 10.189.1) meaning: Moon being the sub planet of earth, is revolving around its motherly planet earth and earth is revolving around its fatherly planet sun.

Veda deals mainly with physics, mainly quantum physics... however elements of String theory, wave functions are also discussed... there are many theories discussed... i think as we have gone quiet deep with quantum physics, it may be right time to re-explore the Vedas, some my found may comment to be pro-nationalism or pro-hindu but true Veda is neither about nationalism, and hindu is just a word that has no roots with Veda (It is related to the Sindhu river).... Veda is about analysis of reality in a scientific point of view.

You have a few likes, so good for you. But Veda is Sanskrit for "knowledge". Of course physics in Vedic language doesn't sound anything like the physics lingo as we know it today. The Vedas incorporate all knowledge. Astronomy. Medical science (Ayurveda). Yoga. Architecture. Law and history and war science (with mantras that can change an arrow into almost anything, including an atomic bomb, etc.). Sacrifice ritual. Gods, demigods and the Supreme Reality. Basically it is said what cannot be found in any science is found in the Vedas and what cannot be found in the the Vedas does not exits. The Vedas are all encompassing and complete. Knowledge today (like physics today) is quite limited and speculative. Vedas is not.

Veda means knowledge. That is full knowledge. It contains chemistry, physics, engineering etc. etc.. all the science that we studies in any University. Only one sage wrote all the puranas.. Veda Vyasa. Originally there was only one single "database" called Satya which simply means “Truth”. Veda Vyasa was worried that it would be extremely difficult and tedious for people to go through and understand the whole thing so he divided them into 4 Vedas. He wrote the Puranas which are again derived from the Vedas. It's simply wrote in different ways and forms to simplify the concept and make it easily understandable and practical to everybody. Like we study the solar system at different levels, at grade 2 we just learn the names of 9 planets and we know theres a Sun and how they look. But at grade 10 we study the system in more detail like the size, light, gravity etc at deeper level.

Regarding the 6m30s mark, how does one get fit for the higher dimensions, either those that are located elsewhere, those located here but not expereinceable by humans, or those hidden but visible (ala sacred geography Jambudweep)? Regarding the 26m40s mark, do any of the Hinduism's eighteen Puranas (ex. The Bhagavata Purana / Srimad Bhagavata-m Mahapurana ) talk about how a higher consciousness determines what vehicle one is to occupy next? So if one follows Dvaita/Dualist then you (as a distinct personlaity) will exist forever? That doesn't sound too appealing for me. But I thought those that follow Advaita Vedanta also believe in reincarnation? If so, is there still a higher consciousness that is controlling what vehicle/vessel you occupy next?

When it is superseded by a unified theory that encompasses general and special relativity plus quantum theory, it will still be right - just less complete.

I surely enjoyed this talk by Michael Cremo, who has adopted a Vaishnavite (worship of Lord Vishnu) way of life, with the name of Drutakarmā dāsa. He is a member of ISKCON, the International Society for Krishna Consciousness. His approach appears to be a Hindu version of the Intelligent Design "theory." Whereas, the Vaishnavites have a brilliant allegory where Lord Vishnu has appeared in several (nine) Avatars. A fish, then a turtle, then a boar, a dwarf, and so on. These are allegories for the stages of evolution on our planet! Evolution is a fact. Undeniably. When I see the sheer brutality of life on earth that has existed for millions of years, what with 99% of species going exist, the term "Intelligent Design" ought to be replaced by Dummkopf Design! 😄

This is a great interview, but I wanted further insight on how he combines the idea that our bodies are designed, with the evolutionary principle of mutation and natural selection. I don't think he's saying evolution is false. But the how do you reconcile these two seemingly contradictory ideas that our bodies have evolved vs. our bodies are designed? I guess I'll have to read the book. :)
@nickburak7518
@nickburak7518 5 лет назад
I've studied the Vedas for the last 20 years. It's immense, but one quickly gets the idea that everything is already understood from the Vedic view. Modernity has cast aside all the Vedic notions. People today, like myself, are rediscovering the vastness of the Vedic view. To answer your question... There is no natural selection and mutation in the sense of the Vedic concept of evolution. Mr. Cremo is saying that evolution is only about consciousness. One can advance or regress, evolve or devolve. A monkey does not become a human, no gives birth to one. The instruction set for procreation is only designed for that species and nothing more. We do not know who this happens... That link is missing. And yet the modern scholars nevertheless maintain their speculation. This is called "scientism", the "belief" that science will one day know. It will not. Now we know that mutations never create anything superior, only an aberration. Secondly we have never observed any creature give birth to a superior one, so that is why, in part, mutation only means a problem in the DNA replication. Darwins evolution isn't based on a problem of DNA; it's based on some random generator that follows just the two basic points you brought up, but it is missing something. That is the other part; consciousness. The last part that we all find difficult to accept is that there are 8,400,000 million different forms in the universe that were already created. In other words, nothing evolves from a single-cell body; it was created just as was the human body. It is the state of our consciousness and the summary of our karma that dictates which body we get. What really bends the mind is that science as we know it depends upon no God. It depends upon a random generator. It depends upon chance. It depends upon the completely ludicrous idea that nothingness was the cause of everything and that randomness and some other factors (natural selection, etc.) that have no physics carried things forward since then. The Vedic conception is the opposite. That is why in the Sanskrit dictionary there is no such word as "random" or "coincidence". Everything has a creator and purpose. Our deficiency is that we allow fools to lead us to think that nothingness is the superior factor. No. God is. Then evolution and natural selection (good looking wealthy strong man gets the woman) will make sense.

With full and real humility I still wonder just WHY it is so difficult for the western educated mind ( persons like Mr. Cremo excepted) to understand Sanaathana Dharma and Adhvaitha. Without getting caught in the parts and bits on the way, whether they be in the manner of matter, time, or change/transformation, if you keep asking the question "OK then, What was before that?", when going inward, or "OK then, What is after that?", if you are going outward, there can be no stopping till you come to the answer " Nothing". But then, all that EXISTS cannot have begun with a Nothing, nor end in a Nothing, UNLESS EXISTANCE ITSELF IS A NOTHING. But then again, will any thinking, experiencing, conscious being accept that s/he is a Nothing? No. Unless - THE NOTHING IS EVERYTHING. THAT ALL OF CREATION OR EVERYTHING WITH ITS INFINITE ASPECTS HAS ARISEN FROM AND WILL SUBSIDE BACK INTO THIS ASPECTLESS NOTHING. THIS ORIGINAL STATE IS CALLED THE BRAHMAM IN SAMSKRITHAM. (Note that THE BRAHMAM and Brahma are not the same. They denote different states of that ONE. Next question - IF IT IS ASPECTLESS, THEN WHERE DID OUR ASPECTS COME FROM.? There are many postulations as answers for this question, three main ones being the philosophies of Adhvaitha, Visisht-adhvaitha, and Dvaitha. The western, christian, monotheistic mind finds it difficult to understand the philosophy of Sanaathana Dharma (aka Hinduism in common, corrupt parlance) where, with a cornucopaeia of Dhaivas, 330 million of them, (aka 'gods' in common, corrupt parlance) depicted as sky, fire, rivers, lakes, rocks, plants, trees, animals, humans - just about anything, carved and painted in temples, caves, calenders, as tattoos, and found just about everywhere, it still negates the existance of that one 'God' sitting up there dispensing, whatever He dispenses. It also finds it difficult to understand just how for thousands of years the multitudes have wondered, discussed, debated, argued, decided on these questions, and not had the desire or need to convert, kill each other because of differences in the answers. Returning to the question, Adhvaitha explains this Existance as a MANIFESTATION AND NOT AS CREATION. And exemplifies further by comparing it to a Dreamer and his dream - there, but not there. Vishtadhvaitha explains it by comparing Existance to something like the web that the spider (Paramaathma Naaraayana) spins out of its own body and retracts it back within itself after its use is over. Dvaitha explains it as the Creator and the Created as two differents, but says that the origin is the only ONE. The Dhvaitha philosophy is more acceptable to the western christian mind as it is closer to their idea of a Separate God, though not the same. Adhvaitha needs a strong, dispassionate, fearlessly questioning intellect to understand it. What surprises me is that young children understand this concept well and with a natural ease unlike grown ups.

The answer to your first question is that the leaders of the Western world (including the Easter world now) are atheists giving us weapons of mass distraction. - Nothing never created anything. Nothing comes from nothing. Everything comes from God. This "nothing" that you speak of is spirit, and it has nothing to do with matter. Spirit is the cause...the Supreme Spirit, Krishna (from which expand Narayana and then Vishnu after that) - Creation is synonymous with manifestation. The spiritual world is neither the creation nor manifested; it was always existent. Eternal. That which is manifested or created will ultimately be destroyed. Therefore temporal. It is the universe that is created/manifested. Same meaning. - It's spelled "dwaita".

it's not the same kind, it is the same same.. the individual is unique but the base of consciousness is just one, not one that is in union with others.. there is no multiplicity at that level
