not sure how to respond to this latina in stem thing. There are many latin x countries that have millions of people in STEM lol

I define myself as Latina in STEM, and I’m one of those that you’ve mentioned. What’s wrong with that lol

@@marianaql nothing wrong with anything that doesn't harm people but this title is redundant. If I am a blue alien in stem that's somewhat Interesting and needs or warrants mention. You're a Latina... There are millions of Latinas in stem. Why even mention it? Lol. It's narcicism. Again nothing wrong with it just lol.

@@marianaql if you were an under reprisented group like native Americans in stem .... Hey maybe or aboriginal (Australian ) or pygmies (in Congo Africa) or maasai (Kenya / Tanzania) these are fringe indigenous groups with kept culture... Latinas, black people, etc are all included in the mainstream at this point. I'm black male in physics. It's cringe for me to say something like this. Now if I was maasai or pygmie maybe .. lol

@@marianaql there is Haiti Dominican Republic, Mexico Colombia etc... Many countries with totalling hundreds of thousands of scientists engineers mathematicians etc. Do you mean Latina in a white predominant country where Latinas are not even a large minority in stem ? Wouldn't this then be the case Latinas in that situation would be minority in whatever including cleaning, driving or any job ? So also redundant?

@@KAIZORIANEMPIRE I kindly invite you to think about the following statistics: “Women make up almost half of all STEM graduates, though just 3.5 percent of bachelor’s degrees awarded in STEM fields in 2010 went to Latinas, yet they account for less than a quarter of all graduates in the 20 highest-paying STEM jobs”. Regarding being “narcissistic”, I am not using my roots and background as a means to prop up my platform, but as a way of demonstrating that women from ANY background can get into STEM. The problem many latinx scientists face is that most of the resources are in the global North. So, yes, a latinx person in science will be a minority in a world that is consistenly led by the richer Western nations. Couple this with the fact that STEM continues to be dominated by men, being a woman of color in STEM has made me a minority in this group. If this doesn’t help you to open your mind, then please read “Invisible women” by Caroline Criado Perez. End of story.
