I made a mistake and the only way good can come from it is by sharing it with you so that my experience can help you or someone you know one day. A massive thank you to Babs Fry (A Way Home For Dogs) for helping Moo and I. And an apology to my local shelter, it was a scary 10 hours but everyone is safe, healthy and grateful ❤️
Thanks for watching!

It's exactly the same with cats. Inside, they are pussy cats, rub adub dub belly time. Purry, fussy, pussy cats. All over you. But, once outside it's ,, Huh. Do I know you? . Done care . I'm Off!,, And they're gone. You may as well not exist. They are consumed by their wild, feral instincts once again. They will come home. But in their time, not yours !😅

I didn’t even think about leaving your scent everywhere and the dog will follow it that didn’t even cross my mind. Moo was punishing you for not taking him. Some dogs are extremely smart but they can be little stinkers too. The worry you go through from point A to point G can make you exhausted with worry. Don’t be so hard on yourself you learned a negative lesson that turned into a positive one. It can always be worse but it wasn’t >Be happy he’s safe and back home. No one is perfect..,

Lee, IT'S OKAY. _IT'S OVER._ Don't beat yourself up. You have such a big heart, and you're so emotionally "squishy" (meaning you're a cuddly guy) and you wear your heart on your sleeve always. Mistakes will happen, even to the best pet parents. And you are seriously one of the best out there. Animals and situations are ever-changing, and can change on a dime. And like you said, YOU LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES. Moo's okay, and he's right there, and he still loves you, and he is _over it,_ and has moved on (one of the best things about dogs!).

@@tatjanaeberhardinger2625 agree, and what I learned from the universe after losing immediate family members in a tragic plane crash during a key time in my childhood is that, and after doing a painstaking search for the meaning of it is that the universe is random…not everything happens for a reason. Also that people are incredibly resilient and can recover from the worst losses, like losing a child, given the proper resources and emotional support.

Thanks for the advice. I have a 12 old dog that I have had for most of her life and I fear that someone will leave the gate open and she gets out. She is my life line in that I am 84yrs old and she is my world so I understand how frantic you were. My next door neighbor has 3 dogs and her most “beloved” got out and she panicked! She was able to fine her dog much to her relief but she reacted in the same way you did. I hope that I remember your experience if my dog ever gets out!!! I know how you felt in your anxiety to find your beloved animal.

Lee, your story reminded me of something my dad said to me when I was a little girl. “If you get lost, stay where you are, dont try and find your way back. We will find you” Dads point was that as you are moving, so are your rescuers, so you can be missing each other. It applies both in humans and our pets, but in the reverse. Stay put and your pet will find you. I know it is hard though, because of the panic, your heart in your throat, the anxiety of losing your fur baby. Great lesson .Bless your heart

I can’t believe I’ve fallen in love with this rescue and your animals and THEN, I hear Babs Fry’s name! I live in the eastern part of San Diego County and she is so popular here for finding animals! We didn’t find our Chewie, and he should never have been outside on his own (cats and coyotes don’t mix), we felt your pain, 2 years later and we still feel it. The guilt I’ve felt is immeasurable, he was our autistic daughter’s emotional support animal and she had him since he was one day old. I’m so glad Moo is home, he is so lucky. No one should comment anything hateful, but they will and for that I am sorry. My dream would be to do what you do, you are an angel on Earth.

Just listening my heart hurt for you. I understand why you were devastated by this experience, but you are so hard in yourself. In every Asher House video I have watched, it is so very obvious how much you love animals, how sincere and genuine your compassion and concern for each and every.animal you take under your wing is. The record you are making of this journey is a wonderful gift to everyone that watches your channel. I think that through your eyes the world of animal rescue, rehabilitation and adoption is seen in a more important, demanding, and noble light. I think by watching your channel and learning from your sharing of this life... those who already love animals feel encouraged, even compelled to do more and give more. And, those people that, for whatever reason, have not noticed or felt compassion for the tragic plight that many domestic and farm animals find themselves in without the ability to help themselves, by listening to you and learning from your honest experiences are moved to act and help in some way. Lee, even the hard experiences that you share teach us all. If any communication comes your way that is critical just delete their comments. As you mentioned, you are far harder on yourself than they could ever be. Personal boundaries are necessary, especially when living your life so publicly. To be able to go the distance with.this important work, keep your focus on what you are doing right. That which we focus on grows. More sharing of your joys and successes. I wasnt even going to comment since it was obvious to me that you had everything in hand. I just clicked on some positive comments from your other followers. But, I could not leave this page without thanking you and your team for the love, protection and care given and sacrifices made to make the world a better place. Best wishes to you and yours for a blessed and joyful Christmas season and much health, happiness, progress and prosperity at Asher House in 2023. Sincerely, Anita

Too hard on yourself. I had a cat who NEVER left my property. NEVER. She would sit AT the curb and watch people, other animals. She came up missing one evening. I would typically go to my front door and call her in for the night. This night, she didn't show up. I drove around calling her. . . no show. Next day calling and calling. . no show. I went to the Animal control . . She is wasn't there. I left a full description and my contact info. I went to the Klamath animal shelter. . Again, she wasn't there. Left full description and Contact info. The weekend rolled around and I visited both places again. . Still no TJ. Ten days after she disappeared, I heard a cry at the front door. . . T j had made her way home. Her paws were all swollen, she was both hungry and thirsty. She got pampered and spoiled written. What I "figured" had happened? She used to crawl into my truck during the day, cold and snowy, and lay out in the sun. I think she crawled into some other vehicle and went for a ride. I had her til she was 18 years old. My kids grew up and left home, but TJ was still with me another six years. The bond we make with our fur babies is stronger than cement. God Bless You for sharing, your experience and the lesson you learned.

When we experience a PTSD trigger event (like this) we also are in a survival mode... fight, flight, freeze. Yes, we then make some decisions that are fear based and illogical. Having someone to "talk us down" is so helpful. I know it's super hard NOT to minimise, justify and save face sometimes, especially when we will be judged harshly. I have found that the times I have been brutally honest with myself and others about what happened, even if it looks bad, I have felt easier in my spirit. I recall once cutting my dogs skin with scissors whilst attempting to remove a matted bit of fur. I ugly cried on the way to the vet and was distraught there. They managed to calm things down and said "sometimes these things happen". Billy was fine through all of this. The thing is... I knew it happened because I just didn't take more care. Owning that helped me to accept that I was at fault. Was able to forgive myself then because although humans are perfectly imperfect but accountability and honesty helped me move on. I feel you mate. The lessons learned make us better animal carers and companions to them.

Welcome to parenthood. We all make mistakes with our "children". Moo had an adventure alone and he loved it. My pit used to jump my fence and the neighborhood kids would tell me he's loose. After many times of chasing him down, I realized he thought it was a game. So I told the kids not to chase him. He just wanted an adventure. So I would sit on the curb where he can see me and he would eventually come to me. Its a learning experience. You are alright! Moo is alright. God's blessings

Lee, we all have screwed up and when it's over we beat ourselves up. It's ok. Never lost a dog, but thought I did, (he was hiding because he had poop on his butt) I couldn't figure out how he got out of the yard(he didnt) and for hours I searched, until he came out from his hiding place because he missed his dinner. I tell you, no disrespect to human parents, but it felt like my kid was lost somewhere and I was helpless to figure out where. The poop stayed on him for a day, because he continued to hide from me and I was too "pooped" myself to chase him through the house, under beds, behind bookcases....you can imagine. It's ok, Lee, you've made this a learning experience for all of us. Forgive yourself.❤️❤️

When you replace "why is this happening with what is this trying to teach me, everything shifts -Lee you are so amazing I am in Florida and my 2 sons go to UCF where many of the students were displaced from hurricane Ian and are without food and electricity I was just at Pet Smart to buy some supplies, I saw these 2 girls w/UCF shirts on and a puppy they were buying supplies for it was clear it was a new puppy I asked them where they got her, and they said they just rescued her this morning well it immediately hit my heart to bless them and give them a 100.00 as a random act of kindness I told them go buy whatever you need for your puppy-they started to cry . Lee I would have never done that had I not been following Asher house-but when they said they just rescued her from a shelter my first thought was you and all you do to rescue ; you do so much you are so loving and kind and things happen Thank you for being such a beautiful soul!!

We are human, and I have a runner, so I understand. He's even tried to jump out of a half down truck window to go after another dog. I always think I'm making mistakes, and I probably am, but as you said, we learn lessons. I am hard on myself too, and no one can make me feel worse than I already feel - that's innate with people who have tons of empathy.

Years ago, when I had my dogs Mealie and Joey, I had many frightening occurrences. We'd be walking happily through an old cemetery or a field (farm country, where I grew up), and once when I was hanging clothes on a line with them just lounging around close by, it was incredible what happened...Joey was a lot younger than Mealie. He was a dog that was born to run, and I accomodated that need in every way I could. But the second I looked away, they were GONE. I mean gone! In less than ten seconds they were barely visible. I would shout myself hoarse calling but they just kept going, JoJoe the ringleader with Mealie right behind, trying to keep up. Twice I remember very clearly finding them late at night waiting patiently for me where I'd last seen them, once at the cemetery and once at a friend's house at the lake where we'd gone for a visit. The friends called me in the middle of the night to tell me they'd finally come back. I spoke to people several times who'd seen them on their forays and remarked how beautiful they were and what they'd been up to. One time there had been a grass fire close by which caused them to lose their scent and Mealie spent the night on a kind woman's porch. She was shaking from fright when I went to get her. Another time I was driving slowly through the village and saw this beautiful dog on a porch. He made no move toward the car and I remember saying, "Wow, what a pretty dog. It looks a little like Joey, but it couldn't be." Nevertheless I backed up and entered the driveway. He stayed where he was, looking at me inquisitively. That's when I saw the bell hanging from his red collar. "Joey?" I called to him, puzzled as to why he hadn't run to meet me. He got up and walked to the car, probably expecting to get a piece of my mind, but I never wanted them to associate coming back with anything but happiness, so many times I had to swallow my anger and literally kneel on the ground with my arms open wide to greet them enthusiastically. Of course that was after I learned that acting mad just made Joey sit in a field afraid to come home. This whole thing only stopped on the day when Mealie, who had arthritis and was getting pretty old, finally slowed at my repeated, frantic calls as they were disappearing from view. I saw her slowing down and then stopping, and finally she turned and headed back. Her little legs just couldn't run like that any more. When Joey realized she wasn't following, he stopped, gave this look as if to say, "What's going on?" He turned around, came back, followed her inside, and they never did it again. How I miss them.

I did that too, ONCE. 😢❤ WAY back, with my Schnauzer, I left her in the car and went into a store. When I came out, this lady was yelling at me, and I deflected it, BUT, when I got in the car, Delilah WAS exhausted and dehydrated. 😭 Thankfully, she recovered. I learned my lesson and NOW, I lock the door, with the windows rolled up, IF I am forced to leave my dog in a car. That was 20 years ago! And, I can still cry about it. SO, Lee, please honey, do NOT continue to beat yourself up. Life happens, we get too many thoughts going at once. 🤗 You are the BEST Dog Dad I know!! ❤😊

Lee please DO NOT BE SO HARD ON YOURSELF! We all make mistakes but kids will be kids and will make their own choices. We spend hundreds of dollars on premium pet food for our rescues- we have so many cat and 2 mastiffs, give them the best vet care, buy them toys and beds and sweaters and then the take off for days or drink out of the gutter in the street when there is purified water in their bowls! Good lesson for all of us to learn on how to get a dog back. You’re a great teacher and you do an amazing job taking care of your kids. Give yourself a hug and a deep breath. You didn’t do anything that hundreds of us dedicated and caring 4paw parents haven’t done- just go easier on yourself.💗

Lee, it's so good you had a happy ending. Don''t beat yourself up. You can't know what kind of past Moo had. We have a rescue dog for 11 years now. Sometimes he'll go wandering too far down to the river on our property. And to this day, if I call him, he won't come back if he senses frustration in my voice. He'll just stand frozen like a statue. So I have to go all the way to him with a happy voice, pet him, tell him he's a good boy (he loves hearing that) and only then will he prance back home with me. We can never raise our voice to him or call him a "bad dog", otherwise he will pee in fear and dart into a corner. We believe it's PTSD. So who knows what races through Moo's brain. One thing is for sure, he certainly loves you. His snoring sounds so peaceful.
