Today we want to show you a very special swimmteich = tec-free natural swimming pool without plants.
Of course, the first question that arises when looking at this swimmteich without gravel bags is: Is this still a swimmteich built according to the Teichdoctor-system?
In this video you can see how Melanie and Christoph built their own swimmteich. - For us, it is definitely the most accurately dug swimmteich we have ever seen.
Have fun watching,
Ines und Christian

I am building a swimteich here in Colombia. I have one question . How are the wooden boxes held in place? Or are they just held down by the gravel?
@teichswimmer6746

My dear, congratulation - please keep us updated!!!!! Sorry for my late answer anyway. The wooden boxes are not fixed anywhere - but you are right: if you just put them into place as they are (just boxes) you may risk that, with time, the gravel that pushes from the swimmteich-edge down might push the boxes towards the swimming zone. That is why we recommended Christoph (who was the "inventor" of the wooden boxes) to add "legs" to the bottom frames of the boxes. On those "legs" he laid gravel bags (invisible after filling in the gravel). And then he started filling the boxes up with gravel (after installing the drainage pipes, of course). In some spots he put some rubber pieces under the frames to even out the level where necessary. We would be grateful to hear about your project! - Maybe you could send us some pictures ? info@teichschwimmer.com Wish you all the best for your swimmteich-project, Ines

What are the dimensions of this pool? I am curious because I am limited to 50m² and considering a similar design.

Dear Michal, the dimensions are 11x6 meters, the swimming zone's dimensions are 9x4 m.

Hi Ines! Thanks for sharing! Do you know what kind of wood was used? Is it a rot resistant species? Or does it not matter much since it is submersed under the water (with low oxygen to prevent rot causing microorganisms from thriving)? Thanks for any additional details! Very interesting build!

Hi Anthony, it is larch wood. - You are right: he could have used more or less any kind of wood because it is always and for ever under water. And therefore will not rot. It's important that not even a mini piece of wood sticks out of the water. Then you've got a problem. The only thing that will definitely happen to that wood (no matter what kind): it will, of course, get slippery with time. You could clean it with an iron brush, but I wouldn't do that too often.... Yes, we also like that build. But you always have to keep in mind that it only works if you dig really well and exact. And you must go for a geometric shape. Then it's a great alternative to pond bags! Best regards, Ines

How is the water being circulated? How is the water distributed through the yellow pipes? Are the yellow pipes covered with holes, I couldn’t see any?
@teichswimmer6746
@teichswimmer6746 2 года назад
Hi Sheena, thanks for your questions. - A swimmteich is built in a way that supports the NATURAL water circulation. It's the wind, the swimmers and the thermic flow that makes the water circulate through the pipes, respectevly the gravel case. I think, I explain the system in a few words in our welcome video, if you are interested........: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9CktEVZ_QSo.html Yes, the yellow pipes are perforated. - they are regular (perforated) drainage pipes with a diameter of 5 cm.... Where did you get your pond liner?
@teichswimmer6746

from a local trader in Austria. - it's a PVC-pond-liner......

The wood brackets under the water seems to me the weak spot. Itt will not last long. Imo rust free steel gabions would better.
@awesomelyshorticles
@awesomelyshorticles 2 года назад
I once explored galvanized gabions as a construction material. I asked a natural pool builder based in Brazil about his gabion pool and he said he doesnt recommend it because it will still rust away in 15 years, and suggested to just go with a regular boulder pile.

Dear Gergely, thanks for your question. Fortunately, you are not right about your assumption: wood in water lasts (more or less) FOREVER because wood - no matter what kind (can be the cheapest) - last forever, if TOTALLY COVERED WITH WATER and not exposed to oxygen. - Important is, that no parts ever stick out of the water. - With Christophs swimmteich, this will never be the case.... Best regards, Ines von Teichswimmer

@@awesomelyshorticles Dear Connor, thanks a lot for this comment because, before Christoph came up with this wooden boxes (they are actually more frames than boxes), we often talked about other solutions and acutally also thought about those gabions and did not know if this could work or not. - Thanks to you, now we know!! All the best, ines von Teichswimmer
