The original way, in my opinion, looks much better. I absolutely loved it (including the larger plant by the window.) When you have a couch pulled away from the wall there needs to be a good amount of walkable space behind it. With it the way it is now it looks like you have pulled it away from the wall for no reason.

You always do such a fabulous job with creating a beautiful home! I am an interior designer, so I am just offering some tips to enhance your talents ( in the spirit of friendly collaboration) . The sofa will look much better back on the wall because it is a long, more narrow room. Also, if you turn the mirror vertically, centered on the sofa and then look for some silver or gold gilt, vintage candle sconces on either side ( you can use battery operated candles- no need to wire). The silver and gold mixed metal look is gorgeous with blues. The sofa is actually super chic, glad you have it for now at least. It looks like a high quality sofa to me. Putting the mirror vertically will make the room look less “long” and will make the ceilings look even taller. And the candle lights will look fabulous with the mirror in the evening! Happy homemaking and happy beautifying! You are very talented and have a wonderful eye for detail! 🥰

For the downstairs area: I suggest the Ethan Allen couches to face each other. I'm no designer, but I am curious how that would look. The couches back to back, for me, is a bit like a sofa store. haha! Curious what you come up with. You do always come up with the right way in the end. A small round table could work in the library area (which I am so jealous of!) as you mentioned. The room has its own divisions within that it could be too much to cram everything in at once: a movie area, a fireside chat area, a art/games room. Its a lot of space and you do have a lot to work with. It's a matter of trying to determine how many subdivisions and room types you want in one area. Good luck!

I think it would look nice if you put the tv against the wall where you can't see it (the smaller wall on the left) and put the sectional with the chase section up againt the wall that the tv is on and move the small chair to the side of the sectional ❤

I may have said something about balancing out the lamp. But now, with the mirror there, I think the lamp doesn't stick out weirdly. I like the couch against the wall with the big plant next to the lamp by the window. But you've decorated beautifully no matter what. It's a cozy, yet elegant space! Thanks for asking our opinions and I hope you end up with the arrangement that works best for you and your family. 💐❤️

I think I’d push the couch back against the wall. It does seem cramped with it away from the wall. I would definitely paint the striped walls. That way your furniture will be the focus rather than the walls. I ageee, a round table under the chandelier would be perfect and add contrast to the sharp corners of the bookcase.

Perhaps in the entertainment room you could put a lovely folding screen room divider between the sofas - you would then have a tv room and a conversation room by the fireplace.

Hi Nikki, How are you?. In my opinion, the floral Sofa directly against the wall is best and does allow for more walking room. The mirror reflecting the natural light is exactly what mirrors are best for. It makes the room brighter and bigger. I love it!. Suggestions for the downstairs room: I would place the Sofa Jorge loves against the adjacent wall that you don't see when you walk in. This will keep it out of sight and allow the eyes to go to the beautiful new Sofa set instead. You can then place the dresser opposite the sofa and mount the TV on the wall above it. This way the TV looks like framed art when you stream scenic views with classical music. This leaves an open wall where you can place the recliner. This arrangement will give your guests more privacy since the Sofa/Sofabed will be tucked away out of view when you walk into that area. Now, I don't have dimensions so I don't know if this will work, but I hope it helps and makes sense 🤓. I send warm regards.

Hi Nikki! I am loving. your ideas for your home. I agree with you 100 percent on the front room with having the couch against the wall and the lager plant by the window. In the video it just flowed so nicely. One thing I was thinking about the downstairs family room, is getting a standing divider to separate the two spaces you have down there. Sometimes you can find beautiful antique dividers at 2nd hand shops. Just a thought! I can't wait to see what you show us next!

I agree with the men. I would move the couch back to give more space for the walkway. Also, I agree with you about the plant. I would put it by the window. You have such a good eye for style. Trust your judgement. As far as your entertainment area, you are so fortunate to have such a large room. But it does come with problems in seeing where you like things. I think a round table for the girls would be wonderful. You are doing a great job. Such a beautiful home.

Beautiful Nikki! This is a part of the fun, figuring out what works! Love that we can chime in! I’d say the floral sofa and inch or two off the wall, not too much though, just so it creates more of a walk through by the fireplace within the space! The mirror there fits that sofa and fills the wall nicely, I love that! I love that window it draws my eye in so maybe the lamp and small plant on that opening/door side (where you moved the bigger plant too), and then the bigger plant by the window again! I like the small plant with the lamp because it balances out the proportions like a tall with a short so the eye has interest/depth! But I also really liked the lamp & small plant by the window too 😂 For downstairs, I personally enjoy the green but not so much those large stripes! Gorgeous chandelier! I would have the 2 sofa’s facing each other so like it creates conversation if people were to sit at each one they can look directly at one another, with a coffee table in the center the opposite way it is now so it runs longs ways between the sofas if moving them! I always love rounded edges, it creates softness! That way the sofas don’t go back to back too! By Jorge’s beloved sofa a sofa table behind it maybe at some point! That way it breaks up those spaces and shows them as kind of separate and not all just sofas! And finding the best spot for that beautiful chair/ottoman, it felt kind of cramped by the tv like that! Everything is so beautiful as is nonetheless and it’s your home, and you see it in person so go with what you and your family love most! I have loved your mindset of using what you have and being content so I’m excited to continue seeing it all come together!! Loved someone’s ideas of a slip cover for Jorge’s sofa too if that would help you enjoy it more!

It seems more secure and cozy to me when you have the back of a couch against the wall. Plus no worries of banging your shins. I would put the plants wherever you want privacy. Probably the bigger one in front of the window. It would get more light too. My frame of mind with decorating is usually function/outlets/flow first then being visually cleaner/relaxing/color ratios where the eye flows and what brings emotional comfort for me or whoever is in the room. Especially if I've had a stressful day and I don't want to feed my brain more stuff lol

Also could consider maybe even switching sides downstairs! So where the 2 new matching sofas go to Jorge’s sofas side! Facing each other and the dresser on the window side wall! So one where Jorge’s sofa is now and the other on the wall where the tv and dresser currently are! Then Jorge’s sofa facing the fireplace with the additional chair/ottoman on the not window wall side kind of by the fireplace! It’ll be fun to see what you end up with, I always love your eye and you’ve always found the beautiful spots for your furniture!!

Nikki, I liked it best the way you had it. Sofa back and big plant in front of the window. Like the wreath, think maybe the two chairs could be closer to fireplace. Love the two new sofas nice color rich looking. Maybe try putting the sofas facing each other, then put a sofa table behind the blue sofa. I know you will get it all placed where you want it. The curtain in bathroom looked very pretty. Fancy!! What did the dogs think of the snow.? Thank God for mommas? Glad your family can come home for lunch thats nice.

I would put the larger plant back by the window. I would also place it so that the fuller side of the plant is away from window to encourage the other side to grow fuller nearer the light. I suggest pushing the sofa back against the wall. I would also remove throw because it hides the beautifully shaped arms which I think are so beautiful. I like the idea a decorator suggested of placing the mirror upright and having sconces on either side. Downstairs if you decide to keep furniture where it is now, I suggest a narrow hall table between the backs of the sofas to complete the look. A round table could look great in the library area. Would you be able to buy the 2 pieces of furniture you wished you had of over the phone and organize a truck to pick it up and deliver to you. Wow, your mother has a great eye.I think your bathroom looks lovely with the gold mirror on the bench and beautiful curtains. I also like a curtain to give privacy.

Setting up a new home is fun, but can definitely give you decision fatigue. I would set up one way and live with it a little while and see how it feels. It’s a process and doesn’t have to be figured out right away. I love the way you go right into painting a wall/room and aren’t afraid to jump in. I wish I was more like that. We have lived in our home now for 2 1/2 years and there are things I want to do, but am scared of messing something up. We live in a new build which is nice, but the paint isn’t nice and scuffs very easily. Anyways, thank you for sharing your process and home with us! You have a lovely home and the snow is beautiful.❤

It looks great. My opinion would be to put the upstairs back to the way it was. Downstairs i would definitely paint and i would put the beige sofas facing each other on either side if fireplace. Jorge's sofa is fine but I would remove the green chair elsewhere. The little pictures on fireplace would look great on those shelves you have available, then put larger framed pictures or portraits on mantle, but im sure you'll figure it out. Beautiful lace curtains.

Oh how cozy and beautiful with snow! The new sofa and chairs are wonderful. Very warm and inviting. Good color in a room with only little sunlight. Gives it warmth. I would probably change the wallcolor too at some point. I think the glass table does not look bad at all 😊 I would put the floral sofa closer to the wall. Now it looks like you were moving it but was interrupted, because the space is so narrow. The tall plant at the left side seems to be at the eye level when you come in to the room, and that does not feel good, something lower would be more welcoming, something that does not hide the open view. You have done a great job! Amazing how fast you have progressed. I have a one week vacation/autumn break from my job and I thought I would do all kind of projects at home, but time just flies... Well, rest is also productive 😊 Have a blessed day Nikki! By the way, your cardigan is just the sweetest thing and looks so warm and feminine!

I would push the couch back towards the wall under the mirror. I also like the couch set up and I was thinking a couch table might look great between the grey (it looks grayish to me) and the new sofa. I would want a couch table with a top table and a lower table so it doesn’t look so open. I also agree that a round table would be perfect under the light fixture. Also, I love the coffee table by your new couch’s. It just needs something on it like books and candlesticks. Anyway, have fun playing around your house. ~ Janet 😘

I think that brass and glass table ties in beautiful with the brass on the fireplace. It also makes the space more open seeing that you have the heavier looking sofas which i love. I also like the white on white wreath on the wall. It is provides texture without being overpowering. But it is obviously a matter of taste. Hey, Nikki! You are doing an amazing job with your new home and spaces! I agree with the majority that the floral couch is better against the wall, and the taller plant is better near the lamp near the window. I know you mentioned wanting a bed area down there. Yes, it would be ideal if you could make that large area into a nice large suite for your guests, but that is still functional for family use. Is there any other large room where the two new couches could go? Because you could keep Jorge's special pick and put a bed where the other two couches are. Or is there another space where the tv and his pick could be in the house? And then keep the other two new couch finds down there near the fireplace and still add a nice bed. And perhaps buy even a little tv to have in the guest room? Just a thought. And yes, a round table would be lovely beneath the chandelier. No matter what, though, you are doing splendidly, and things take time to come together just perfectly. Keep enjoying the adventure! God bless you!❤🙏🏻🕊💐

Your home is beautiful. I would suggest the furniture in the keeping room looked better against the wall. In the downstairs area I would try the two matching sofas facing each other with the table between them. It will give the two sitting areas more separation. Guest can enjoy cozy conversation. the fire or the tv. The length of the coffee table will look better between the two sofas. I suggest putting a sofa table behind the sofa in the tv area, again giving those two areas more separation. A little decoration on coffee table and sofa table will complete the look. Also put the side tables or lamps next to the matching sofas on the fireplace side. A round table will be good for games and snacks. Painting in the future would be okay but you may also may want to live with it for awhile. I know it will be beautiful with whatever choices you make.

What about putting a skinny sofa table behind the sofa? You could put books or candles or knick knacks on it.

The mirror looks fabulous on the wall, well done. The lounge would look good closer to the wall but with a relaxed gap of half or less of what you showed, as that gives more walkway room infront of the fire. The house is looking fantastic 😊

Hi Nikki. This is a beautiful video, as always. 💖 I have two thoughts. #1 Why do you have the lamp by the window? Is it so that the cords won't show as much? As a practical idea I would think the lamp on the other side of the sofa would provide light for reading where you already have the light from the window on the other side (at least in the day time). #2 In the room with the rich wood I think a nice big ottoman would make that space look even cozier. you could always put a tray on it if someone needed a place for a drink. And a throw blanket over it. The rooms in your home are amazing. I can't believe all the shelving in that one room-oh would I love that! Have a wonderful day.

That rounded coffee table could maybe come upstairs and square or rectangular down. It is a bit more quaint and the rounded edges upstairs would prevent bumping your leg.

In the entertainment area, can you install the television over the fireplace and use the three couches. You need a lot of seating. You could do the blue across from the fireplace and have the other two couches on either side like a u shape. Kind of open the room up. Sleeper sofas are great.

I love that pretty room w/the mirror hung now & agree w/your guys that the sofa looks better on the wall. The walkway does in my opinion look too cramped/small otherwise. I also like the addition of the small side table on the other side of the sofa. Not sure I like the tall plant in this room. Think maybe it would be better served somewhere else. Because to me the plants in three spots are too much in that one room. Just my thought though. Either way I think this room has turned out very well.💕~S.D.

I used to live in St George when it was small! I love southern Utah I’d put the couch against the wall, not touching, but close enough I actually prefer the first picture with the larger plant near the window. Love the new sofas and chairs. Can you spray paint the oval coffee table a different color? I really do like it but a different color may look better.

My only advice would be not to make permanent decisions yet - like getting rid of certain items. You can’t undo those decisions. It’s all coming together and as you live there, certain things will become more clear. Again, I’m so happy for you.

Could the couch go in the open space, but turned at an angle, then move the 2 chairs over to the long windows and nest them with a table for tea of visiting, or needle work. Then put a medium or dark, leather, masculine chair with an ottoman, between the window wall and the angled sofa. Maybe a bookcase tucked against the wall behind the sofa to bring in more warmth and a lived in feel.

Personally I’d move the tall plant back to the window and maybe push the sofa just a tad bit closer to the wall. I have mine in front of a window because there’s no other option and I don’t like that but it’s sitting about 10 inches away from the drapes so it’s not touching anything.

If possible I would put the blue couch up against that wall with the window (left side) and the tv on the wall across from it. It would be more hidden from view and you could see someone's face when entering. Then put one of the loveseats under the window so they're facing eachother and that could maybe be an area where your daughters could do stuff on a coffee table eventually? And a side table between that loveseat and blue couch on that same wall. Textile wood textile. You could pull up more chairs that way.

Your 2 new sofas by the fireplace in the tv room, I would set them across from each other on either side of fire place, room off the kitchen what if you put a sofa table behind the couch, love watching your videos

The first way is better. To me the latter appears as though you forgot to move the couch back after cleaning! Besides the larger plant closes off the room. It would be a good idea if it was a large room that you wanted to break up. But your room runs the risk of feeling stuffy if it’s too closed off.

I would switch the 2 new sofas to the other end of the room so you walk into the room and your focal point will be the front of your beautiful sofas. Then I would move the coffee table downstairs with your new sofas and put the glass top table upstairs. I would make the other side of the room for tv watching. Mount the tv over the fireplace and have your gray sofa in there. Your 4 matching chairs I would suggest using 2 as side chairs in the side of the room with the new sofas and the other 2 upstairs. Maybe 1 in your living room perhaps at your desk and maybe the other in the master suite. To me, I feel the statement mirror you have over the sofa seems to heavy for that placement. A collection of lighter feeling framed mirrors with maybe sconces would work better. The heavier gold framed mirror could possibly work above your dresser downstairs (once the tv gets mounted over the fireplace. It would also bring more light to the other did to that side of the room. Lastly I would move the sofa back against the wall as you first had it. I love your new home. It’s going to be perfect with your special touches. It just takes a little time to get things like you want. I’ll be watching to see how it all comes together!❤

Hi Nikki, is the large window beside door sliding glass or a window ? I would consider if there is room angling couch infront of that with possibly a velvet large ottoman with tray used on top for a cup of tea etc. That way it can be dual purpose for putting feet up and a surface for a drink. Just a thought. Then sitting chairs facing that large window and maybe a shelf or tea wagon as opposite wall of fp used as a secondary shelf for plants or some people may use a decanter set etc. Amazing to see you have snow already, in Eastern Ontario we have had frost but no snow yet but coming soon. Also that front room a lovely area rug could tie together if not carpeted but I have also seen a smaller rug over carpet.

If you angle couch you may have room for higher plant and lamp behind it as a reading lamp.

With the furniture set away from the wall.. it appears as though it’s for cleaning- .as though you were planning to vacuum behind. If you had a long table behind the sofa then it would make sense to have the furniture away from the wall. I agree with your husband.. it looks cramped.
