The Dark Souls 3 boss figures are wrong. 10 out of the 25 bosses are group bosses so the correct figure is 40% not 24%. Thank you to @Losttank09 for noticing this oversight. Apologies!

DS2 is the keystone that holds the trilogy together, even though most assume it's separate and retconned. Sulyvahn is a successor to Aldia and a vestige of DS2s Lindelt - the son of a witchtree. The Lindelt Monastery are lorekeepers who preserved the ritual of linking the fire, vouchsafed the tradition of prison-paintings and created and controlled the systems of monarchy in DS2, acting as heirs to the primordial serpents. Londor (Lande d'Or; Golden Land) is a piece of afterlife that Gwyn and Velka colonised.

This is a nice video dood, nice editing, great dictation, obviously you are very familiar with the subject material. The only tiny gripe i have is that while it's perfectly understandable for the English speaker , i feel some of the language is just a little unnecessarily complex for a broader audience, it sounds more like a dissertation. This is isn't a bad thing by any means if this is the style you want to create for your vids. Every creator gets to choose their style so if this is yours then great, i hope to see more. Hey man, Liked your video but I'm a bit curious about the group boss fight graph you made and which bosses you included.. I did a double check of ds3 bosses and it seems the total is accounting for the DLC as well, but the DLC has 4 out of the 6 bosses being group fights, while the base game has 6. This would come out to a total of 10 out of the 25 bosses being group fights for ds3, or 40% for reference the bosses I counted were: Curse-Rotted Greatwood: arena starts with adds Crystal Sage: summons copies of himself Abyss Watchers: phase 1 has 2 hostile adds, 3 if you count the fact that your ally watcher can still damage you Deacons of the Deep: gimmick fight based around adds High Lord Wolnir: can summon skeletons Pontiff Sulyvahn: creates a copy of himself that is killable in phase 2 Sister Friede: phase 2 Champion's Gravetender: 2 bosses Demon Prince: Phase 1 Halflight: multiple adds

I watched some DS elitist videos on why they hate DS2 long time ago, most of their complaints are about: - they can't parry properly - they can't backstab properly - they got hit when rolling - enemy too many - soul memory It is actually they suck at the game and they're too ego to admit. They used to bully DS noobs by invasions, they can't do that anymore.

In retrospect, the game on release was such a weird time. Information on how mechanics worked was lacking. There was a lot of wild critiquing and misplaced blame.

Dark Souls 2 is my personal favorite game of the series. While DS2 indeed has some issues, yet DS3 has an equal number of issues or more, many of which can be found in both games, but it gets a free pass because it was directed by Miyazaki.

I enjoyed DS2 more than DS1 and DS3, and I started the soulsborne journey through Bloodborne, which I love very much! Then I tried playing DS1, I hated it, went to Demon Souls Remake which I really enjoyed, after that I forced myself to play DS1, I couldn't make myself like that game, I finished it by forcing myself, but no enjoyment, thought would be the same with DS2, but no, I really liked the game, and then went to 3 (which I'm playing right now) and... I mean, not a torture like DS1 was to me, but not as enjoyable.

Pretty much how I've felt about ds2 since release, just is not a enjoyable game to play for me and a bit sad that other soulslike that I have played just out do ds2 at being a souls game. Well put together video man. I did wonder why no mention of soul memory but I wager since it only affects multiplayer that's why it wasn't mentioned.

If ds2 fixed their lock-on and/or made it easier to aim without lock-on it would have been so more enjoyable. But fighting with the controls and camera as well as the enemies made it so frustrating. MORE frustrating ontop of it being a souls-game. Still, it was my first game in the series and i’ve got more than a 1000hrs on steam so it must have done alot of things right. I really enjoyed the video! Hope it gets the traction it deserves :)

DS2 isn't a bad game, its just lacking in certain areas that other souls games aren't, or at least not to nearly the same extent. Most Fromsoft games have their own unqiue bugs, quirks, rushed areas, poorly designed bosses, etc., but with DS2 it's like they pushed all of these just far enough where it outweighed whatever charm and "soul" the game had and just became frustrating and disappointing. That's how I see it, anyways. For example, I don't know if I could say any area in DS2 is as rushed and annoying as Lost Izalith (the dragon asses and bed of chaos especially) but there's so much more to the game that is exceptional and reaches heights that DS2 just doesn't in my opinion. Same goes with DeS and all of their subsequent games.
@SpookeyGael

Also personally I just really hate how DS2 looks. Something about the textures, lighting, and animations just feels stiff and unpleasant to look at. I can't really explain why exactly this is.

Dark souls 2 is the only one you have to learn how to play because it's a brand new genre. Dark souls 2 is a realtime turn-based rpg, not an action rpg; another example of this genre is Let it Die: the genre is about positioning and resources, not action. I'd bet money you 100% dislike Let it Die because it's just not your type of game. Adaptability exists to have build variety; in dark souls 2 shields and tank builds are viable, so there's no need for s mandatory. The problem with the rest of the fromsoft games is that you're forced to dodge and exploit s, and no other defense option is viable. In sekiro they made the only defense viable be the parry. Dark souls 2 is the only game they've made that you can play your way. Your character is not weaker without adaptability: just use a shield or poise, they're actually viable. It's not a broken mechanic, it's a balancing mechanic to help you focus your build. You don't like dark souls 2 because you like easy games. You want a 2 buttons game, 1 for defense and 1 for attacks; dark souls 2 is more complex than that. You don't want to analize a situation and approach it as it demands for optimal results; your gameplay for example shows you rushing in constantly like you can dodge spam for the win. In dark souls 2 for example you cannot rotate 180 degrees after launching an attack, the rotation will not snap to make dealing with ganks comfortable; it's not that type of game: it's more methodical, like old resident evil games. Bosses like the ivory king are testing ground for next iterations of the game, so it is what it is with those, and even then, they provide npc support for those fights, and tie the entire thing into the gameplay. Fromsoft games are not about expressing yourself, but about optimizing your survival; every situation plays in a single way, and you can only win optimal figuring out the way they want you to play: they don't make games, they make puzzles, and that's ok; approaching their games with a mindset of self-expression is going to make your experience frustrating. Their puzzles aren't hard, but people's misconceiving their puzzles as games is what makes them hard. They will ruin all other games for you because other games are games, not puzzles: you'll optimize the fun out of games because fromsoft's puzzle simulators are not fun. // The only flaw dark souls 2 has is soul memory. You didn't talk about it in this video, which means you have no idea about the real problems with this game; you're just frustrated because the game doesn't play like the rest. I know it's called "dark souls" so your expectation is that it should play the same, but elden ring is not called dark souls 4: everyone expected it to play different, and it doesn't. Another flaw is invasions tied to a consumable, but I get why they did this; it's not fun to get constantly invaded, it should be something you do cuz you need to, not cuz you want to; but that's debatable. The pvp in ds2 is still the best; the fact that you can cancel attacks and not rely on 1 hit kill strats makes the pvp feel a lot better. You probably don't even know that you can cancel attacks, even running attacks, in dark souls 2. You're not supposed to play the beaten path to the end; you're supposed to explore, get stronger, and then backtrack. It's a budget open world, it's not a linear game; in dark souls 1 you either go up or down, and then the game opens up, but in dark souls 2 the game is open from the start: you can unlock the foggy forest without doing any boss, and you can unlock the night forest after doing 1 easy boss. You're not supposed to do any major boss without a fully upgraded weapon. Again, you just don't know how to play the game because it doesn't seem to be that kind of game, because of your expectations: fromsoft is the asian ubisoft, you just don't perceive them as such, but they have been releasing the exact same game improved for over 20 years now; just iterations of the same formula culminating in elden ring: a live service game with $50 microtransactions. It's not exactly a metroidvania where it's mandatory to defeat bosses to progress and unlock upgrades; like I said, it's a budget open world. You didn't even mentioned bonfire ascetics as one of the best things in the game. The fact that you can redo bosses and areas as much as you want without having to go ng+ is the best QOL feature ever added to a soulslike. I once farmed 200 giant souls just to see how much damage I would do to vendrick (stops scaling after 5); and then I used them all to see how much damage the king's sword would gain from the millions of souls (stops scaling after 20k if I remember correctly). You can't experiment at this level in any other soulslike because you're forced to replay the entire game. Dark souls 2 is the only one I like, and I got hundreds of hours in all of them. I also got hundreds of hours in Let it Die, because apparently those are the only 2 real 3rd person melee focused videogames that exist, that just so happen to be the same realtime turn-based rpg genre; the rest are unlockable movies.

Dark Souls 2: Is gud SotFS: So anyways, we fucked it up
@Domo3000
@Domo3000 2 месяца назад
In what ways did Scholar fuck it up exactly? In reality over 90% of players that played both versions prefer Scholar as it's just a straight upgrade in so many ways. I've got 20 different videos showing that SotFS improved the balance by nerfing several bosses and making the beginning easier. It removed a lot of annyoing ganks and frustrating moments. It nerfed Shrine of Amana by drastically reducing the range of the priestesses. It introduces new enemy types better. It made most runbacks easier to run through by removing enemies that were camping at chokepoints or at the fog gate. And it has less group aggression. If a group of enemies attack you Vanilla they will almost all attack you at the same time, but in Scholar only half of them will attack you while the other half will wait in the back.
@stingerjohnny9951
@stingerjohnny9951 2 месяца назад
@@Domo3000 Really? Because all I saw in Scholar was that they placed pointless statues and randomly placed enemies that previously had lore significant placement to make gank squads to artificially ramp up difficulty. I played it for the added story content with Aldia, who i thought was interesting, but Scholar just felt wonky to me compared to the original. And sorry boss, but no amount of videos from armchair analysts will change how a game feels to me.
@Domo3000
@Domo3000 2 месяца назад
@@stingerjohnny9951 which enemies have worse lore placement? In Vanilla you had a Flexile Sentry in the Shrine of Winter where it makes no sense and Scholar moved it to Sinner's Rise where it does make sense. They added a Royal Soldier to the Forest, which makes lore sense as they are part of the King's army that fought here against the Giants. And it also helps to introduce new enemy types better as you learn their moveset in a one vs one fight, while in Vanilla the first time you fought against them was getting ganked by 5 after opening the door to the Ruin Sentinels.

@@Domo3000 The first thing to come to mind is the Heid knights, who used to be spread across the land, and now are all in a cuddle puddle in Heid’s Tower of (No) Flame.
@Domo3000
@Domo3000 2 месяца назад
@@stingerjohnny9951 that's not even true. Heide Knights were not spread across the land any more in Vanilla. The one from Shrine of Winter got moved to The Gutter. The one from Lost Bastille got moved to Sinner's Rise. The one from the Forest got moved to Heide's Tower and got some new friends. They showed up in exactly 3 areas and still show up in the exact same amount. And in Vanilla the one with the spear dropped a sword. In Scholar they actually do drop their weapons and you no longer require a high amount of luck and Bonfire Ascetics to get their armor.
