I so enjoyed this visit from Chris English a few weeks ago. It was such a pleasure getting to know him a bit more and learning all about the fascinating ways in which he works with fabric. He is a very individual and creative quilter - I felt so inspired after he had left! As I explain in the video, Anna and I filmed so much, that we have enough to make a couple of videos for my Patrons as well - the first of which will be posted this coming Friday (7th of June) so keep an eye out for that, if you are sat on the Patreon end of The Lime Green Sofa!
It really is the support from my lovely Patrons that allows me to keep the sofa cushions plump and the plates of biscuits and pots of tea plentiful on The Lime Green Sofa and so for that I am very grateful! You can join them here for the price of a coffee or a craft magazine and watch the content there back to the start of 2019! Look in the feature 'Collections' to find what you are looking for!
/ thelasthomelyhouse
Over on my website you will find much more! Here you can shop for some of the things I use in my craft room at The Last Homely House and sign up for the monthly newsletter.
thelasthomelyh...
My daughter Martha and her partner Adam have just made a beautiful new set of cards for my shop, inspired by all the garden birds that come to visit me in The Last Homely Garden - if you fancy a set - thelasthomelyh...
The music in this video was chosen from Epidemic Sound and is called
Happy Go lucky and Textures
There is always so much going on here and over on Instagram - kateatthelasthomelyhouse - you can keep up with some to it!
Thank you so much for watching!
Love
Kate

Dear Kate, dear Chris, really loved your video and the little chat about quilting and fabrics. I like that Chris actually represents the original Patchwork to me. Using what you have and what you like and just "make it work" for you. For some quilters you have to use the most expensive materials to have a proper quilt and that is not my thought of quilting. I want to bei thoughtful about my materials, use what I have and also upcycle material that would be tossed by others (e.g. little scraps). So Chris is a great inspiration for me - Just as you are as well, Kate ❤ The little bear paws at the end are adorable. They remind me of cornflowers. Regarrds from Germany Stephanie

This video excited me to the max. I felt I was on the same level of excitement as the two of you. I don't have a digging partner anymore she passed away. But when I saw your excitement at things he brought and thing you showed him that you had in your stash that level of joy that came over him, came over me also. I was smiling and in my mind I was digging in that stash with the two of you. I had so much fun. It was a downer for me when the video ended and there I was sitting in my home alone. I was truly aware of hour your fun was affecting me. I was so shocked at the joy I was feeling with you two having all the fun. I think it really was an out of body experience! And I really did enjoy it.

My goodness, I see so many fabrics I've used, or have gotten, but haven't made anything yet. That's so fun to see what my fabrics can be, especially the scraps left over. I could listen to both of you all day. I'm glad I have my coffee cup, sitting across the table from you both.😊❤

I've been smitten by Chris's work for some time. I'm a person who is irritated by anything in a straight line or same texture. Consequently, my quilts are unique and personally designed. It took awhile to accept this part of myself because I kept fighting with other peoples ideas of what should and shouldn't be. Now, I cherish my work and am so thrilled with my pieces once they are completed. Chris is my inspiration.

This is my first time seeing Chris and experiencing his joy for art quilts. Something shifted in my heart and I am seeing quilts in a whole new way and can't wait to start making my own rebel art quilts. I've always done traditional quilts like my mammaw, but have been feeling trapped and bored with the same old things and have been yearning to break out and fly! I am so inspired! Following him on instagram now and you too, Kate. :)

And that bear paw is the pattern of my queen- sized quilt I just finished ( well I need to do the quilting stitch & binding )& you, Kate & now Chris have confirmed for me that I can do it by hand & with straight stitches or slanted ones, with colorful thread❣️ I am so excited 🥰 ( now, my quilt has all cream for the paw & different fall colored fabric for the outer shapes-found the pattern in an old Quilter’s magazine )Thank you for having Chris on, Kate! Here’s an idea of mine, perhaps the bear claw pieces you’ve made could become curtains for the LHH cabin. It will make you think of Chris and then cram your brain with more inspired ideas as if it’s not already. 😂😂

LOVED this video, Kate, and can't wait to see what you make in his quilting style, quite a departure for you. On the other hand, I've never bought new fabric for quilts, always thrift store stuff and clothing, which is what I use for my rag rugs. Adored Chris's quilts when you first introduced us to them at the show - colours, textures, my kind of quilting. I've always admired your technical excellence and the PATIENCE necessary to measure and cut so accurately but I knew I could never manage that! Thanks again ♥

I do love all styles of quilt making, however, I also think the quilt community can benefit from a little shaking up and thinking outside the box. It's so important to learn how others interpret their visions of art. Anna, I always love your choices of music that accompany the videos. Hugs across the pond. ❤

Amazing! I learned to screen print many years ago in my highschool art class. I drew a picture of Mikael Gorbachev. He was doing a flying pirouette. I got all of his muscles, and his hair just so... I fell in love with screen printing. It was horribly expensive. Every year, my art portfolios were set up in the highschool art gallery showing. There were only 10 students from 4 classes...2/class and the grand prize winner. He has painted many murals in our small town. ❤😊 Chris has so many wonderful ideas for his fabric. Absolutely amazing.😊❤
