Abu Ayyub Al Ansari Mosque, Eyúb District, Istanbul Türkiye:
The mosque was first constructed in 1458 by Sultan Mehmed-the conqueror, 5 years after the fall of Constantinople. Many community-based facilities & historical sites can be found within the mosque complex. The one of most prominent is a mausoleum or tomb of one of the most trusted companions & outstanding figures in life of the Prophet Muhammad (saw). He is Abu Ayyub Al Ansari, known as Eyüp Sultan by the locals. As I chronicled his past stories (before & well after his death), I’m particularly overwhelmed & amazed of the impact of his legacies to the Muslim world then. I would rate the site as perhaps Muslim’s holiest site in Europe!
