No one is allowed to borrow from the Vatican Library, except the pope. And no wonder: the archive holds some of the oldest and most precious works of art and treasure known to man. Morley Safer gets to see the best of the best.
I may be an unrepentant heathen, but I have always adored and admired the Catholic Church for its unfathomable plethora of cultural contributions to the West over the course of two millennia. I visited the Papal Palace and Observatory in Rome years ago and have been inside the Vatican, but can scarcely fathom the value, historical and religious, of the contents of the Papal Library...
@@sanchayansarkar2953 Oh? What did they appropriate from you? Do you feel the same about 'appropriating' the technology you're using right now? Or the language you're speaking in order to convey your first-year university student inflected faux-moral condemnation of an entire religious and cultural legacy? Tell me, honestly, what you believe to have been 'appropriated', and from whom, and what you would like done in order to rectify this atrocity, that is so obviously weighing heavily upon your soul and tormenting your mind. Cheers.
@@sanchayansarkar2953 Vatican " appropriated" nothing from ancient cultures, they're not the stealers or robbers the Paul Getty, the NY and other american museums actually are...🤫
history is history, past is past.. no body can change it... but from me, i very proud because the lbry in vatican city have many book that contain of many type of history. yes we know that beside pope, no body can borrow the book. i think because pope n vatican want to maintain the heritage. once the book's lost, we also lost our civilization and history..
The vatican library really is the holy grail! Simply amazing, a true, beautiful testament to christianity and its history. This is the wonderful side to religion.
Everybody keeps saying they got the surviving copied scrolls of the library of Alexandria in a vault to never be seen makes u wonder what else they got.
Well most of the book from alexandria has been burned cuz empires who took over the place thinks its blasphamous to read those....but the church tried to restore those considering other empires try to destroy those
What an amazing place! History seen but I think mankind will NEVER change. We do the same atrocities, crimes and sins we [humanity]has always and will always do! Sigh.......
So only a select few can read these books? Wow that's awesome. Keeping knowledge away from us common folk isn't very Christian!!! I'm a Christian but have no church because the worship of the speaker and not the word. Peace
😂🤦♂️🤡 bro you dont even wash your hands before reading your Bible (thanks to Catholic Church) and you think you could handle this library? Yet alone other treasures and artefacts they have?
All Protestants should spend their time learning about Catholic faith and their origin. All their misled hatred towards Catholic churches will be rid of completely. Amen+
Nice documentary, Does anyone know if there is any information about the artifacts including relics of early saints that are available? I was doing my research on the Byzantine relics that were lost and later found in the Vatican... I would like know what has survived and what hasn't. Overall I think this is a great treasure to human History.
If this is such a treasure for humanity, then why can only the pope take a book out? Why can nobody copy those books and store them digitally so that humanity actually has access to it? The church just doesn't want us to know what is there.
So that pagans and heatens like yourself dont destroy it with your filthy fingers. Beisdes real Christians, yall wouldn’t know what to do with all of it.
do you know how time consuming transcribing, cataloging, and digitizing is while retaining artifact composure so its not damaged? Ive worked in archiving before in a relatively small archive with stuff usually only back 300 years and we STILL haven’t gotten through all of the stuff. I can only assume the difficulties of the VATICAN archive is magnitudes greater then this. Its great hearing people who have little knowledge about a subject complaining like they know about it
@@midshipman8654 Are there signs that the Vatican is releasing this information piece by piece, whenever something new is cataloged? Is there an ongoing project that is doing this work? They have enough money to do this and hire the best people and equipment.
Where you got that only the Pope can take a book out ? That's the usual, silly lie the protestant priests keep on telling since centuries ! At least 90% of ancient books have been made available for everyone interested, almost all ancient greek books are known thanks to the Church that made copies back since middle age.
That few people have seen first hand should probably be recreated, as experts of all sorts have access to the Vatican Library, the Vatican Library is more akin to the Library of Congress.
wanna see the real stuff hidden deep ? Well, you start on asking your homecountry archives and wait for the answer, if any answer ever will be ... 🙄😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
2 Thessalonians Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers and sisters, 2 not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by the teaching allegedly from us-whether by a prophecy or by word of mouth or by letter-asserting that the day of the Lord has already come. 3 Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness[a] is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. 4 He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God.
Those are collections of variety of books. Not all has religious significance. Also, it’s the fault of Martin Luther why you only have 66 books in the bible. The original canon of bible has 73 books in the Bible. So the Catholic Bible has complete 73 books of the bible.
Someone who doesn’t believe in the main world religions and follows multiple gods that do things for stature and not the good of the world. For example, Greek and Norse mythology.
Was thinking just the same. He's definitely involved in some dark energy stuff. Did you notice what he said - "the human brain cannot understand" what's in the books... Sure, cos some of them are as dark as him
Amazing that I too picked up on an evil that is a part of the Irish Priest. He has a supercilious smile, looking down on others . Priests are fake and evil for the most part.
