Great job on the video! The editing is pretty awesome. So, CVR is an interesting one for me, but I'm glad to see your first expression was better than mine back in the day. (Disclaimer: My first experience with it was quite a while ago, so these things might not hold up anymore today). The game has a content rating system, and anything that's flagged as mature is locked behind a free DLC. Unfortunately... that DLC is impossible to aquire in Germany. Which is super ironic considering Alpha Blend Interactive is a German company. This wouldn't be a problem, if not for the fact that when I joined, almost every avatar people were using was hidden from me because I didn't have the DLC (I was just in a public lobby...). So I had to write a mod to patch out the DLC check just to be able to properly see other people. But when I finally did figure that out, I was running around for 2 hours, and I couldn't really find anyone to do something with. Any person I found was just sitting in front of a mirror, doing nothing, which felt really weird to me. Considering I didn't see that in your video, I assume that's probably changed by now. The prop system is neat, even if it's unfortunate that you can only really create props using the Unity editor. It's a bit disappointing coming from Resonite, but it's still better than being locked to only props that are part of the world you're currently in, like in some other social VR games. At the end though I left because I couldn't really find someone to do something with. I'll probably give it another shot eventually, but that time taking friends with me so I won't run into the lonelyness problem again. We did something similar with VRC for Furality, a little field trip with a bunch of other Resonite players, and it was pretty fun! I will note that from hosting Z-Rave on the Resonite side of things, I know there are some cool rave / party worlds on there, so at the very least that's something I want to explore on my next visit. I'm sure there's also a bunch of unique game worlds and props to explore... I just hope it doesn't suffer from the same content discoverability issue Resonite is still facing.
Yeahh no definitely. Hence why I tried to emphasize that my experience will be different to others, I cannot guarantee these things have changed or not which is why I wouldn't suggest going in to anybody with any kind of expectations. The content rating system is fairly strict for good reasons, but at the same time I do see the irony of the DLC not being available in Germany despite the founding country LOL. Sucks that you had to do that. I do appreciate the idea that the game makes you go out of your way to explicitly enable that kind of content, no matter what age you put upon signup. So that way, it's entirely clear whether you *want* to see that kind of content or not, and how much more it'll protect younger individuals even if they purposely set a wrong age or anything of the matter. And if they do enable the DLC, it's on their own discretion and they have been thoroughly warned about it being disallowed. This video has MANY unused takes and just footage of me running about - it definitely boasts a good community however not as active as per-say my experience with Resonite, or VRC (despite VRC being a can of worms sometimes). Yes, people were indeed AFKing at mirrors and not being very talkative as similar to your experience, however in total I spent about 12 hours in CVR and did end up meeting some pretty kind and cool peeps! It sucks that CVR doesn't really offer a whole lot else from what is already on the market, it's definitely has a lot of potential and thats a big point that I would like to have emphasized a whole lot more on, but that wouldn't make for a very interesting video 😭 It did feel quite lonely, probably very in sync with my social issues already but when I did find the right people to talk to, it was very fun. Once again though, its a platform full of a community that are just happy to be there and support their own game, alike to the Resonite community, and certain parts of the VRC community. That's what make these games shine so much! Hopefully someday they tweak and update the game into something that would be able to effectively compete with other games, but as it stands it is currently just an alternative to the likes of VRChat, with a tight-nit community.
