Absolutely loved this movie. I had to watch in twice in two days and I rarely do that. I laughed my head off both times! The scenery was magnificent and it was so real that you feel they are not even acting. Nick Nolte and Robert Redford were perfect in this role. I love the environmental messages put out. Definitely an adult movie.
rick regala I agree great to watch from the couch. My Mom and Aunt went to 100 & 105 they did not look as out of it as these old actors ? Emma looks good maybe it’s the sex.
**A Walk in the Woods Official Trailer #1 (2015) - **-Nick Offerman-**, **-Emma Thompson-** **_Robert Redford, Nick Nolte_** Movie HD** - There, fixed that for you.
I loved the music score, the amazing scenery, the subtle suggestions about the environment dying around us (which it truly is) and 2 old men taking a last stab at life.
As an old guy ex-hiker, this movie really had me emotionally rooted. Unusually, the German title is much more fun and inspiring: "Picnic with the Bears".
Jutta be sure and watch Redford in the movie "An unfinished life" along with Morgan Freeman and Jennifer Lopez for its a very good drama and all the actors are super in it as well. I have seen it 4 or 5 times in the past year and a half and almost want to watch it right now just talking about it. Truly Redford, Freeman and Jennifer at their best...I saw it on "Putlocker.com" for free... enjoy
The book was amazing I am sure the movie will be just as amazing. Having my son on the AT trail at the present time it helps bring some humor to the whole 2100 plus miles, he is TN at present time. My heart and soul has been with him everyday.
I am almost finished listening to the audio book. Absolutely enthralling! I love every bit of it, because it's not only an adventure, he wrote about SO much history pertaining to areas in and around the AT, plus scientific facts sprinkled here and there. I figured the movie would be quite different, but it still looks very good. I've enjoyed Robert Redford flicks since I watched Brubaker(filmed 20 minutes away from my home) in my younger days.
This is a simple movie with great acting i must say...really recommend people to watch it if you haven't done so. A good film to me consist of good story plot, great acting, some comedy/humour and a moral of story/reflection for people to relate on to their life. This movie definitely have those.
Why did you list Nick Offerman on the title? From what was shown in the trailer, the stars were Robert Redford and Nick Nolte, Offerman was barely a cameo.
Terry9135 sadly, probably marketing targeting the younger audience from his show etc. They do this alot to Indie films where they dont list the main character, but will list another for views.
Bought the movie a week ago and we just watched it for Movie night, hubby and I.... Most refreshing.... Loved the whole of it..... and the comedy works so well between two of the greatest.... Love you both.
Saw the movie, it was great. Critics are giving mixed reviews, but my family and, from what I could tell, the audience laughed through the whole thing. Very enjoyable. Just a fun, inspirational film. And don't worry about naysayers telling you that Redford is much older than Bill Bryson was at the time of the hike. This film is about sedentary folks getting off their butts and hitting the trail. That's the message, and a wonderful one at that. You'll maybe want to go hiking after seeing this. I know I can hardly wait.
This movie was one of those winding down kind of movies, with two great actors who been in the movie bussiness for long time, much props for these two old guys. Me and Wifey enjoyed it.🙂
just read this book & excited to watch the film. it looks happy and hilarious, just like the book. grateful for people like bill bryson, willing to go out and do things even when it was hard & annoying.
This was a really good movie!! Loved every minute of it!! If you like comedy with some adventure and beautiful scenery and great acting you will love this movie!
Robert Redford is currently 78. Bill Bryson is currently 63. The book this is based on was published in 1998, when Bryson was 47. So a 78 year old is playing a 47 year old. Brilliant.
Ryan Gerberding True, but there is 80 year old people out there hiking more than 20+ miles a day on the AT. Plus its Hollywood, they even used the wrong bears... we have black bears.
Ryan Gerberding Makes it more inspirational. I love to see older folks doing the impossible. Reminds me of when I once saw an old man getting out of his car in the dead of winter, and pulling out a 98 lb exercise machine he had just bought. I went down to help, but by that time the old guy was carrying it on one shoulder and unlocking his apartment door with other hand. This old guy also used to jog even when it snowed, was really strong. And pushing about 80.
+wavygr To the point of the casting, Hollywood just assumes nobody has read the book, or adds 2+2 and scratches their heads. Bigger case in point: Tom Cruise playing Jack Reacher in the recent Reacher film. Cruise playing a 6'5" 250 stud. Any fan of this series must want to throw up. The movie is the movie and I suppose we just get this enjoyable book out of our minds and hope for 90 minutes or so if some kind of entertainment.
I loved the movie but sadly I think I had higher expectations. also I was in love with the soundtrack because of lord Huron (band) and it fit the movie's vibes and atmosphere. this movie did make me want to go hiking tho.
+rush92287 There's literally dozens of films each and every week that arent like that. You need to stop inventing things to complain about and be less of a miserable old fart. And this isnt original, it's based on a book.
+Balasubramanian P R I'm scared to see the movie because the book was SO funny! I've only heard one person do a review on it. The review wasn't good, and the reviewer didn't even read the book...
Nope. It's just extremely difficult to transfer Bryson's book into a film. Furthermore: when Bill Bryson wrote his book, he was 46 years old. I simply don't get why on earth they exhumed 77 year old Robert Redford to play his part. Couldn't they allow the main character to be played by a less-than-fit, slightly overweight middle age man?
I found the book in guarughlos airport, san pablo, brazil when I was traveling around. Lucky me. And I read it during the journey. Was a great company book and was really cool. But in my opinion the book has a serious approach of the trip through the apalaches and about the moment in life of its writer. The movie takes an inappropriate perspective in relation to the point of view of the author. Seems to be like if all would be a joke, a stupid trip with two guys just having fun, like a typical Hollywood movie. I mean, the movie is not bad. . But would expect more of these two actors. Or it is a wrong director interpretation. The book is great!
This movie should have been titled Redford and Nolte "On The Road To the AT" because it has more in common with a Hope and Crosby "Road" picture than it does with Bryson's book. That said, why expect anything else? Hollywood isn't in the business of making book faithful movies, their business is making movies that appeal to audiences. I'm not saying this is a bad movie. It isn't a bad movie, it just doesn't have much in common with the book it's based on. If that's ok by you, you will probably enjoy this movie..
Redford & Nolte make a great XD and ofc Emma as well. Always nice to see her in a flick. Other than that, I'm watching this bc Nolte most likely plays the comedic one. Obviously. Anyway, this could be a good one to watch.
I just finished the Book version and I greatly enjoyed it, I hope the movie is as half as good. Oh, and the book, I award it 5 PK points- way to go Bryson!!!
i love this lines Robert Redford: "if you see a bear play dead" Nick Noltey: "if you see a bear you are dead" Robert Redford: "this map can't be to scale" Nick Noltey: "this map is to scale" what a beautiful fiklm
Saw this movie on a rainy afternoon. Seats were filled with aged men and women. Being a teenager if thought id die of boredome, but I had a good time and my mom only fell asleep 3 times. I rate 8 "won't make a book out of this trip" joke out of 10
Have waited for the book to be made into a movie for soooo long and in very capable hands.Cannot wait to see this..,sad Newman is not around.Would have loved to be a far off extra along the trail just passing by.
well, I for one am excited about this movie, I think Redford and Nolte will do the book's 2 main characters justice. this book is one of my favorites , I highly recommend reading it.
Paula be sure to watch "An unfinished life" Robert Redford, Morgan Freeman and Jennifer Lope... a great story line and outstanding acting by all three of them...get your corn popped and the iced diet coke at the ready for once it starts you won't want to get up to do that later on I promise you that :)
