I completely agree about Japan being affordable. I was surprised how cheap hotels were. I was paying $60 a night in Tokyo, for a room that would cost me $150 to $200 in London, Sydney, or New York. Most meals, I paid between 800 and 1200 yen (note, this was all in 2019, when I was last there).
Yeah, it's a great value. It's probably even better now with the weak yen. And the quality is of the food and accommodation is just as good or better than you'd get in London, Sydney, or New York.
