When I first started watching your channel I wasn’t sure what it was about, I have spent a lot of time in the Philippines and have a Filipina fiancé here in the US. After spending some time watching many of your videos I find them and you as very authentic and genuine. You have a great attitude. Keep up the good work.

Typhoons and king tides will eventually erode and reshape the beach front and any effort to prevent such will protect the homes. James, you have acclimated and assimilated with the weather, culture and surroundings there knowing when to infuse your ideas and knowledge, and when to respectfully be an observer. One thing 'state siders' do not understand or grasp, is the great difference in culture when it comes to how the folks there survive. Be it daily survival for food or during a disaster, the Philippine culture is community approached (extended family and neighbors) vs mainland US, it's individualism. Kudos for taking the initiative to protect the homes from flooding either from inland out to the water (water diversion) or erosion from the ocean.

Forget about the jealous haters. They don't truly know about the Philippines and how many live here. Many don't have much but there always smiling and are the most kind caring and giving people in the world

It seems it is now so easy for people to buy up in others business with little to no regards to there own doings. It is obvouse the commenters have never spent any long term time in the PI. James, we are lucky because during a hurricane the sea surge (max 20ft?) does not cross the sea road to our property. I rebuilt our kuba house and the community church which termites had gradually eaten over 40 years! My wife was as poor or perhaps poorer than Melinda family? so I have enabled her family to prosper cos of my retirement investment. I understand your reflection and history

I have been watching your videos for quite some time now and truly enjoy them. My wife is from Leyte and we have been together since 1986 and married since 1990. I’ve been retired for 2-3 years and may still move south of you there near Davao city. I just don’t understand what your trolls get out of their ignorant comments. I live in eastern North Carolina and we do similar things here to preserve and maintain beaches as you are doing there. I can’t fix the trolls and it’s true that you “ Can’t Fix Stupid.” Just keep doing what you’re doing. Those of us that count know who you are and appreciate what you do on many levels. Thanks for the neighborhood tour...It's evident to me that you and Mel have been a positive and real contributors to the community... It may not be BGC (thank goodness!), but it's home, as you say... Home is what you make it, and you've become a vital piece of the area... Hopefully the negative comments will stop, but if not, know the same is happening to other channel owners who've done the same... It seems you all will get no credit from the ilks of these people because they need to vent, and it's so easy to do it on the social platforms... It's not just The Philippines either... There's a channel I follow based in Thailand (Foreigner Joe and Gift - wonderful couple and they've built a house and live a wonderful life below Hua Hin - Joe was stationed in many areas of Virginia, Germany, and Italy where I used to work in the Army)... It’s important to surround yourself with positive people. We don’t hear their words, only you. Hard to believe what they say, but not surprised, plenty off a holes around. When in the Philippines, I usually hang with Filipino. It is not beautiful in the neighborhoods, but when you go into their homes, it’s always nice!

We could tell looking at yours and Mel’s face you were not happy about the comments. We just want to let you know how much we enjoy your channel . Me being married 47 yr to a Philippine we understand how much you are respected by them. We wish we could be in your shoes. People making those comments are only jealous. James, I’m in complete agreement with those who suggest you ignore the haters. I’ve watched you guys for a number of years and rarely miss a video. While I have disagreed with a couple of your political stances, I am most assured that your intentions and contributions to your community are sincere and appreciated. Keep doing what you are doing. As in all things, “ leave people better than when you find them”. In a relationships, business, friendships, etc. I’m convinced that you meeting Mel and falling in love with her, has brought you and she much joy. But the “butterfly effect” on the kids, and community will have lasting effects that will outlive all of us. James I’m a relationship coach and I needed to become an expert on abusive behaviour to be the best at what I do, and one thing about narcissistic people that is an absolute fact, is that they will call decent people narcissists. I see it all the time in my work on social media. I get attacked on the regular for exposing their abusive behaviours and manipulation tactics. Smile and wave and thank them for adding to your algorithm stimulus. We all know you’re a decent man.

I think it's important to keep in mind that if you were mistreating the local population, you would not dare walk into the normal neighborhood and certainly the children would not treat you like a trusted tito. I watch almost all your videos because i enjoy watching your building and mechanical talent and I have a strong connection to the Philippines as well. I don't understand why you let some comments take away from the good content you when you spend time defending your everyday life. When you do focus on defending your self I just move on to another vlogers post. I say all that to say this: you're letting people live in your head rent-free. people that nothing positive or constructive comments to offer. Nobody's perfect and some people only task in life is to let you know.

I have message many trips to the philippines. My wife is pinay but unfortunately 3 years ago she passed away from cancer. We have a condo in cebu. I still go there because i live the people and my family there. Keep doing what you are doing. I plan to visit and stay in Melinda's resort.

Great video! But sorry for the crap you get that inspired this video! Been watching you guys for a few years. It inspired me to move to Thailand, build a small house in the village my girl is from. I took your example and hired local builders and I kept a couple guys busy for months. We became Brothers and their last day was a sad day! But since they live nearby they stop and have a beer!If I made RU-vid videos I would probably get the same crap comments! Ha ha I love the reaction of all the folks/family you encountered. Started watching before work, was able to finish just now, great video. People thats never been to the Philippines, especially in the province areas dont have a clue about how life is there. Love the closeness of the communities like that. Our family lives right beside najuan lake on mindoro, very similar housing and life there. We love y'alls videos and feel like family after watching yall for so long. I look forward to building there when I retire.
