I purchased this camera in 2006 and I’m still using it today…likely the best digital camera ever made.

Recently picked up a 5D classic with a 50mm 1.8. They are beautiful cameras. Had one several years back and wondered why I ever sold it. Whilst it’s not up there with the tech of my Z6ii, it certainly produces a wonderful image. Beautiful work!

Yeah much agreed. Obviously can’t compete with modern offerings in many ways, but the images that come out of it are really beautiful.

Have you tried to adapt EF lenses on the Z6II? How well it work? Nikon Z seems very attractive because you can adapt Nikon F, Canon EF, Sony E, and Fuji X

Beautiful colours 😍 I, too, have been considering an old Canon (would be my first Canon) just for the colours. Of course, lots can be done in Lightroom but I'm after easy colour and little work 😅, so I'd be interested to know if you did much to the colour, if it's close to the standard profile of the camera or any of the profiles? Thanks a lot! (Oh, and I know getting up early for the morning light is a big chunk of it too, but my curiosities remain)

Great video and beautiful shots. I also love my 5D classic, but have been having focusing issues with my Sigma 50mm 1.4, so it has soured me a bit. I will have to try it again with a different lens.

Canon should make a 5R Classic, a R mount camera with the same sensor with only added focusing system and same processor in a smaller die running faster and a basic video coprocessor. I would buy one, even with the limitations it would have (noise, dynamic range, etc)

Nice video. Your shutter sounds very different to the classic 5D clunk i'm used to!

Maybe due to how I recorded it, not sure. Just a 5D like any other as far as I’m aware :).

We live in a golden era of cheap photography tools. I got a 6D, with the 50mm 1.8 STM and a battey grip for $115usd. Ok, it have 121.000 shutter actuations and it's in bad ugly shape, but it works perfectly fine. I have a 40D, a Rebel XS, a 77D. And some Nikon cameras and lenses too that I'll sell. Canon won me, for ergonomics, simplicity, overall image rendition, etc. I'm in love with old Canon cameras. As a hobbyist I don't need anymore. I can even adapt my old vintage manual lenses collection with focus confirmation (adapters with focusing chip).

One of the few good "reviews" of the 5D with some great image samples showing off that sensor! Colors are beautiful; did you work off raws? My mirror finally fell out of place in my 5D so hoping to glue it back in and keep shooting soon hopefully. There's just something about this camera! I've tried to sell it maybe 3 times and changed my mind every time.
@bartjanverhoef
@bartjanverhoef Год назад
Thanks Cody! These were all RAWS, processed in Lightroom. This video was my first photowalk with the 5D, I’ve been using the camera quite a lot since and I find myself doing less and less to the RAWS; they are so good SOOC! Lens profile corrections, maybe a tiny tweak the highlights or shadows in high dynamic range conditions, and that’s it really. Absolutely love the colors as well, and in fact the files in general. I just got mine but definetely not selling it either :). Hope you get that mirror back, good luck!

Some nice images, for me the prove that camera / sensortechnologie has not changed that much the last decade. AF has changed a lot but sensors did not.
@bartjanverhoef
@bartjanverhoef Год назад
Considering this camera is from 2005, that’s almost 2 decades! Camera’s have indeed changed/improved greatly in many areas like AF, processing, etc. But like you say, sensors themselves not so much is also my impression. Or least not ‘improved’, per se. I am not necessarily convinced of the ‘magic’ of certain older sensors to the extend some are, but there’s an undeniable quality in various older cameras like this 5D, that’s hard to find in recent cameras. I’d be interested to learn about whether that’s just the sensor, or perhaps also something else.

It hasn't changed much due to limited resources, cellphones using computational photography are achieving amazing technical things. Although personally I prefer the simple rendering of normal cameras: light hitting a sensor and a not that different color profile by company. It looks more natural.
@sexysilversurfer

Sensors have changed a lot but the difference is at lower iso and megapixels.

The 5d series is far, far from being overtaken by mirrorless Canons. The R5 takes great images - until, that is, it falls apart. It overheats, battery life is real bad, it freezes up - to mention only about half of its problems; little stuff like that. I finally sold my MK2 after using it for 12 years or so, and it was as good as the day I bought it. A large number of consumers can't even say that about the R5 after 2-3 years of use. And my new (2 years ago) MK4 is much better of than the MK2, but both are timeless.
