Real Collectible, Real Vintage anything still do very well on Ebay without having to compete with Temu or whatever. Daily refinement has great advise for people that want to move the hardest things to move on ebay .....things like clothing and everyday household items. That's why I'm a "Picker"....I pick out the odd, collectible, vintage / antique stuff out there, this way i'm not competing with daily refinement and Temu etc. Thats way to much work and headache.

I bought 4 pieces of clothing from Temu to see what the quality was like. It was SO bad. The quality is awful. I wouldn’t even sell them for $1 I donated the items to my local thrift. I think if people are looking for quality, they will see these fast fashion brands are garbage. I’m not worried about these companies.

My mother in law bought my daughter clothes from Temu and then got mad that I didn't have her wear them to school lol. The one dress is pajamas and she argued with me that it wasn't and I'm like seriously I work with clothes for a living I think I know what I'm talking about 🤦‍♀️ And the crotch on the pants bulges out so bad that my 6 year old daughter tried them on and immediately took them off bc she said it looked like she had a boys "pee pee" 😂 This poor child tries so hard to please her mommom but her mommoms gonna get her bullied. Why are mother in laws so stubborn? Can't just say sorry the quality was trash maybe next time try buying better brands for cheap on eBay 😉 I'm always trying to promote eBay since eBay doesn't.

I think the market hasn't changed and it's big enough to support both classic/quality AND trendy/cheap. It's always been this way. The former is usually for older people who know better, the latter for younger people with little money and into trends who don't want to do laundry.

last one promise. In those "old old days" of the 80s, I started buying Dooney & Bourke. I am like a 2 year old on everything so what I owned (now and then) has to be indestructible. They were what we call now "Big Duck" style of all leather and bulletproof. If someone was to hurt them we could send them back to the factory and they were fixed! Free. If they were too far gone, we got 50% off a new "Big Duck" all 100% leather made in the USA item of our choice. I only bought Dooney for myself and my mom till this day! I was and have been a life long customer and will continue but not the new stuff--- only made USA Big Duck. To penetrate online to find these people... the people like me who buy plumbing fixtures from the 60/ 70s called Artistic Brass and hunt it down...stalk it at real estate postings and wait for the new owners to come and see if I can get their faucet--- to drill down on quality minded people is so hard.

So very happy I watched this video. I have been reselling for about 18 months and am just getting out of the beginning stage just as you described. I have a much keener eye for what is better quality and moves at a higher price. Not at the $20 profit per sale YET but have learned through you the importance of streamlining my listings so that I can list quicker. Anyways, thanks for all that you do and you have made my Ebay Reselling Journey more successful than it would have been had I not have had the insights you have shared 😍

I agree with you on the quality in those cheap websites. I’m a millennial and my mother ran a cleaners business for many years. She has like 50+ yrs of experience in the field & I still call her anytime I stain carpet, clothes or need to be reminded on how to wash it. She’s so good even the eco friendly cleaners don’t use quality products on the clothes. Certain clothes need be dry cleaned, but most pple don’t take the time to understand what that process entails. My husband doesn’t go shopping with me for clothes at the stores. Not because he doesn’t enjoy it, but because I take my time looking at the labels. A lot of the clothes at Ross, Marshall’s, TJ Maxx usually have that California tag “could cause cancer” & they have been moved around to so many warehouses to warehouses. Clothes can get very dirty and dusty. Shein is horrible, bad quality, and they use allot of bad dyes. Those type of clothes do not hold their shape, so these clothes end up in piles in a dump in another country. RU-vidr Bailey Sarian has done a video on this and she is so detailed. I was happy she did it so people understand. At my old job, the girls used to brag about buying things off websites like shein and I’m just like 🤮

Thanks Chris! Great video. If I may, how does this sound: de-list some old items (over 60 days) then create new listings for them a day or two later. Then give them 30 hours by themselves before adding other inventory to give the “new” listings a chance to sell. Also, picking items at thrift in Denver is WAY better than finding things to sell in New Orleans - more poor people in the south I guess. People hold onto things longer and good stuff doesn't last long on shelves. Folks in Colorado donate really good stuff. I still haven't found a car stereo in a NOLA thrift store.

I so agree. Iwill go to the ends of the earth to find high end quality vintage items and just dropped a rebuilt engine into my 1987 Saab 900S for the 2nd time! Yes, 3 engines in 30 years and I will do it again if I have to. I pay 5 times what a new piece of furniture costs to have a mid century one rebuilt. I was raised where you bought your furniture for life. Ikea? I do like the meat balls, but that is where that ends. They are good even if they are not healthy! The problem I struggle with is that so few people (and certainly next to no 25-35 year olds) have this concept. I am working my ass off trying to downsize a huge family of collectors and it all landed on my mom and I. Calling out theft on ebay got us tossed out. Quality and Ebay are not words I see that should be in a well constructed sentence. : ) You are very concise and organized, you don't waste viewers time and are engaging.... and I can hear you! I will learn from you. Thank you!

This seems closely related to inequality and social stratification. It’s ludicrous to talk about “buying a quality sweater” for $100 (or more), when a $10 sweater is what you actually have the money for right now. Saving that $10 for 10+ weeks is not on people’s agendas.

I am on 10:00 of your video so far. And there with the clothing you are absolutely right! I do the same thing. I buying mainly actually unbranded but higher quality T-shirt that cost me like 10 EUR but althogh its 3x cheaper than some branded T-shirts like Adidas, Nike etc. etc. it LAST for 6,7 even 10 years! For 10 Euros just basic T-shirt with thicker layer of 100% natural cotton. While I've got a gift it was actually some Gant T-shirt it was 4 times more expensive than that basic just single color one (I use mainly black and white single-color) And you know what you can take that T-shirt on your leisure time as well as on your non-formal business meeting. No one notice its not branded T-shirt, the cotton is very soft even after hundreds of washes. And fun fact one day I have visited my parents and my mom told me ,,Hey that's the T-shirt I bought you as a gift 8 years ago?" I said yes and she said ,,It still looks like brand new" and it does! While that Gant T-shirt did just 2 years and I had to throw it away. Sad but what to do yep 4x more expensive and lower quality. Jeans I know person who buys a new pair of jeans like every two years. I have 2 jeans I rotate for maybe 8-9 years. I think if you pay for a quality and if you take a good care of your clothes, it lasts decades. And that white T-shirt will be modern now and even 10 years later. But hey I have a company and we specialize on reselling and on custom made items that we selling through our own online store, before we sold stuff also on Etsy which we ended all our listing at the end of 2023 and some stuff we also have on ebay. BUT Since 2021 we've done an experiment. Our company invests into inovation that helps reduce electricity consumption by buying more efficient heater solution. adding solar panels, using recycled and recylceable materials for packing etc. In 2021 we've tried to run campaign where we cut 20% out of our net profit revenue and we used it to buy a land and plant a small forest. Then we've written an article about that event for our buyers and surprisingly some of them started asking ,,HOW can I support this project and have my own tree?" So that basically directed us into an idea ,,why not try to upsell by offering to plant a tree by your own choose (spruce, pine, fir) and then actually plant it? Then you could have choose whether you want one tree or 1/4, 1/2,, 3/4 and we then combined that with other order(s). That way in 2021 we've planted 250 trees where 125 trees came from our own pocket and 125 trees came from our customers pocket. At the end of a 2021 we've sent email to all customers that supported this project where we sent them drone view of a new planted forest. At that time it was 60% orders that chosen the tree over 40% that chosen an random item for free. In 2022 that number increased to 85% for tree 15% for an item and in 2023 it was 96% plant a tree over 4% for free item. Needless to say that unlike other companies that plant 10-30 cm trees, we've chosen 1,5 m to 2 m high trees - they are more expensive but does their job faster + we supporting local school plant that plants them. At this moment our forests has 918 planted trees and this year we want to plant another 582 trees to round it up on 1500 or even more if the economical situation mainly in Europe allow us to do that, where 350-500 trees will come from our own pocket and the rest 100-300 will pay our customers.

The reselling market is growing exponentially and the demand for quality products still far outstrips the supply. The complaining about eBay comes from people who've been selling a certain way for years and can't or don't want to adapt to change. It is harder if you live in a rural area, but then you have to adapt and focus more on NextDoor and local apps and put in the groundwork. Most of my bread and butter has come first from what I own, then family, then friends, then neighbors, then neighbors of neighbors, then garage and estate sales and only THEN thrift stores. There's exponentially more "stuff" that people have and don't use that they're just sitting on in every city and town in the US than there is for sale on the market at any one time. It's up to resellers to come up with creative ways to "unlock" those trillions of dollars in product.

I sell servers and hardware in Germany. Though our economy is tanking bc of the rising cost of energy, (which is intentional... 😡) my business on eBay is running fine (it tanked on the classifieds, though), quite against my expectations. Again, I'd welcome advice on selling and particularly sourcing other stuff, too. Else, keep up the good work!

Most of my expensive high end clothing goes out to Europe. Switzerland, Germany, England, etc. They tend to buy items over 50 dollars, including shipping they're paying around 100 dollars and over for items like Black label Ralph, cashmere silk blends of Zegna made in Italy etc. It seems obvious that my American customers have slowly become broke over the course of half a year. Items that sold for 25 are now selling for 20 in half a year.

I have always stayed neutral with everything thats going on with your channel (I'm sure you know what I mean) and I have also watched your content for about 3 years now and there has been alot of interesting and good content. But I just want to point out you do make ALOT of assumptions with your content. I would advise listening back to each step of your video and think when you state each point have you made an assumption or did you cover the full spectrum of you blanket comments.

Around 27 states have laws. That you have to have a auctioneer license or some kind rules. To sell live. I heard 3 more states passed laws for 2024. No one is talking about this! Seriously what happens when or if they crack down on this? I live in Ohio they passed a law no live selling without a auctioneer license. Exception you can sell $10,000 in personal items a year only? What do you think Chris?
@alexlim1275
@alexlim1275 5 месяцев назад
well if that was the case they would have come down on ebay a long time ago. i dont know, i would imagine it fits in the "online sales". i would say its like the auction house sotheby's you would consignment your item to them and they would auction it off for you. ebay is our auction house. at they end of the day the state wants there pound of flesh on what you sale.
@Bobbie-Loves-To-Thrift
@Bobbie-Loves-To-Thrift 5 месяцев назад
@alexlim1275 I don't know about the other states, exact laws. Ohio just passed this online law last year in 2023 around February. It's different for each state. Auction Professor explains it here on RU-vid. It's so new that when you Google it. It's doesn't come up with the current laws always. It's sad because I got approved to do lives before I knew about the law. The law takes food off resellers plate because it has in my opinion really reduced my sales on poshmark.

@Kybone cost $2000 you have to become a LLC and pay to take continuous education 8 hours. I already have a cosmetology license that requires ce hours. I sell full time. I left my job of 7 years. When the pandemic started. Got really bad at my job it was a retirement home. So many obstacles in life. You just gotta want it bad enough ! Work to get it! If I was younger?
@Kybone

@@Bobbie-Loves-To-Thrift I understand. It sounds like youve done well to pivot when faced with challenges. Surely this one will be no different! if you believe the license is a necessity and can see an ROI on obtaining one, then go for it! If not, then surely you can find the best avenue for successfully selling your product.

I know that you know this Chris. You have asked this before; "Would you rather sell 34 cars next year or one 1.3 Million $ yacht?" Temu works for many reasons that a single reseller cannot compete against. The world's retail and reselling market is in a stunning shift that started about 10 years ago and is at a breakneck speed now. Many of the resellers I know are caught off guard and will fade away. Remember the real estate market shift 2007/8 thousands of agents went back to regular jobs because they were caught flatfooted. It seems 85+ resellers have a death pile that they cling too. Like the antique store That is happening now in many selling formats. And the most common problem is what you stated... desire coupled with an unwillingness to do what works. The strong always the weak. Too bad so many love what you say but will not make a shift.

Hi This is SOOOO Interesting. I did not know any of this. I knew Shein was a cheap cheap brand but not the process of how they do it. And you mention items fading over time. It does not have to. I have a method that insures almost no fading ever when I wash my clothes. I turn all my clothes inside out if I can, then I use no dye detergent and wash on cold gentle...I do use stain treatment if I need to. Then I hang dry most of my tops, I do dry my pants usually. I haven't noticed any fading at all, or shape changing. And how lazy is a person who can't do laundry!? LOL. I mean we have actual washing machines available, we don't go to the river banks and smash our clothes on the rocks for gosh sakes LOL. I'm sorry I had to joke about that. I think its terrible because OUR WORLD is paying a VERY HIGH PRICE for cheap fashion. Terrible for our planet because producing it emits tons of greenhouse gas emissions, uses water both in making the material and making the garment, any bleaching or dying, Some companies are urging consumers, is it better to have 20 cheap tshirts or 2 good tshirts? Of course, 2 good. Always. Then comes the fact it goes to the landfill. At least with more expensive fashion, as we know we can use it for quite a while, then donate it and it will hopefully be re-used again You can't don that with fast fashion, I once bought one pair of Shein shorts at Goodwill, because they were cute...I came home and tried them on, Did not fit..the waist way too tight, the zipper was so cheap I was afraid to even try to zip them up...and they were a size bigger than i usually wear. I can't sell on ebay, no one would buy them plus size is wrong. So I guess I'll donate again...probably end up in the landfill,, Good companies are starting to use recycled fabrics and do things like save water by whitening jeans using rocks instead of water. I have to get off my soap box but Thank you for informing us about this all! I'll keep listening

Temu, SHEIN aren’t they based in china? China made products well the problem is the quality of these products. if people want to put up with cheap quality then go ahead. it’s not for me. I do not mind paying more as long as I can use it for a long time. that’s saving right there
