I ran into a man at WM here many years ago and I thought to myself "he looks just like Ray Price". I just kind of walked up and said something casual to him. When he answered with 3 words there was no doubt. It was him. I swooned.
I saw Ray in person when he was 81, and again when he was 83 years old. His voice was still stellar. He amazed the crowd with his voice. He moved around slow, but when he started to sing, it was WOW!
HE WILL ALWAYS BE THE CHIEF, He was one of the very BEST COUNTRY singers of ALL times.........God's got him now in his band and they are still singer all those great songs, RIP RAY, we are missing you here on earth, but we still play your music everyday and that will never stop as long as I am alive...........The C COWBOYS will be there before long!
This is the first time I’ve heard Junior sing a ballad. Mercy, what a great voice. I honestly thought I was hearing an earlier Ray Price. I’m a new fan, Junior.
my dad introduced me to Ray in 1948 and I have followed him for 74 years and loved every one. Pretty soon I hope to join Ray in heaven and listen to all his new songs. God Bless you Ray
I lost my husband of 55 years almost 4 years ago and this song fits me to a tee. When you lost your soulmate. you really do not want anyone else ever. This song says it all.
A beautiful rendition of the Ray Price classic. And the writer Hank Cochran in the house! The Fabulous Superlatives doing a yeoman's job making things seem like time stood still.
Thanks to HPR radio a us country music station (real country music) where I first heard Ray Price or at least heard his name , what a singer in his young days and definitely in his mature years, this is 2021 and I’m irritating my wife by constantly playing him. Btw HPR, is dependent on public contributions to keep going, I’m a listener from Ireland, so no connection, but would urge all country music lovers to contribute to keep them on air
You know the older he got, the more you could see his Native American Cherokee roots come through. He looks like an old distinguished Chief without the ceremonial "Warbonnet" headress. What a marvelous singer, truly a legendary Icon in Country Music..
I listen to these songs and I get my dad back for a few fleeting minutes. I miss you pop, more than words can say, Thanksgiving won't be the same without you. Thanks Ray, I hope you're both having fun wherever you are and it ain't too hot, lol.
I am a country western singer and song writer I was so blessed to have got to meet Mr Ray price when I was 19 years old at Cain's Ball room in Tulsa Oklahoma my mother Kathy. Stewart and ben Stewart took to the show I was listening to this great singer since I was 15 years old I got to go back stage and meet my idel though the help of Mr gene gasaway the fidel player one of the best from Mansfield ark Ray took out time to talk to me and get a pic with him I was on cloud nine I told him I was a country singer and song writer, and make country music and writing my life , growing up listening to you has sertinly been an influence ,and it has to this day meeting Mr Price was 1970 through the years I have got to be the opening inertainer several times ,his influence is still with me today this is now 2017 for I am still playing singen country music and inertaing and writing country songs, thank yereou Mr Ray price God only made one Ray price and one great band the Cherokee boys thank you Gary d whatley
This song fits so many situations. While mine is not a love story, looking back at the many great times in my life makes my old age more palatable. Ray does it well.
Don't get me started on Ray Price. There's not enough space on utube. No one and I mean no one can sing like this great man. Great voices? Oh yeah there are great voices. Elvis. Roy Orbison. Carpenter. Striesand. Sinatra. Pavarortta. Reeves. Cline. But for me it all comes back to this man who from the first note out of his mouth, you know. It it's said that Orbison had the greatest voice in popular music/ rock music, then Mr. Noble Ray Price has the greatest voice ever in country music.
Ray studied to sing opera, but he could sing Pop, Jazz and ruled Country. You're right Austin, all he had to do was open his mouth and out came pure beautiful music.
The industry did its best to abandoned him, but no way his fans were going to let that happen. This man was to country music what Elvis was to pop/rock!
Peter Styles Are you trying to start a fight, or do you just not know? He was way too late in being admitted to the Hall of Fame. He never achieved the accolades he should have. And, without a doubt the Nashville scene abandoned him for s period... perhaps they didn’t like it when he did some experimenting with violins and other styles. But, he was never as radical as many have been in country music. Personally, I’m glad he did what he did. In my mind, he was one of the best and no one in country sang better. He was def a link to Hank Williams Sr. , and the last of the old time greats. Without Ray Price, there would have been no Willie Nelson, and he knew it.
This song is the best answer I have for my being able to survive. The song is so beautiful. I have listened to it many times, and I have never tired of it. God Bless Ray.
I will never understand who made the industry bosses the arbiters of what the listeners want to hear. Ray Price had so many hit songs and made these very people a whole lot of money, and they just wanted to toss him aside. Well mow he sings where you can't silence him. We are a "throw away" society and that includes people. That is too, too sad. I miss you Ray...
He's coming out with a new CD the end of this month some old songs he's never recorded before, this CD is dedicated to his fans. One of the songs will be "Among My Souvenirs". And believe me he's still The Master and he's still at work!!!
He does this song on several CDs over the years. It's on the Essential Ray Price, Touch My Heart, Help Me Make It Through The Night and Golden Hits CDs.
RIP Ray. But the RPS (Ray Price Shuffle) will always live on! I finally figured out what makes the RPS really groove is the bass and piano exactly doubling the bass line! Check it out.
Thanks Carol Perkins, I miss the group. I still have no idea why my FB account was disabled, they gave some stupid reason that made no sense. Tell everyone HI for me.
