you need to do an off-road course or one in Europe. unimogs are far more capable of more extremes then your putting it through, the roads are no worst than those off the main routes in Europe and forestry land there. your storing up problems with the working gears because of your use of them

We are learning and that is perfectly okay. Jumping first to the extremes of what the vehicle is capable of would be irresponsible. Hope you enjoy the videos.

"The road less traveled"! Its a trail! Hold my breath driving over and between those big boulders! Appreciate the history. Unbelievable Adventure. True test of your knowledge of the rig and confidence as a team. 😅 A great test for any relationship! The icy berry smoothie, a luxury in the wilderness. Serene. Heaven!! - Except the one vehicle cliffs! Your babies at your side, so normal...including the paw in Drew's drink! Stay safe and well!

How is the interior of the rig holding up? Everything staying in place? Watching it rock and roll and sway so much as you go over the rough patches makes me wonder. So fun going on the journey with you guys. So many beautiful places in USA.

Great job! Boondocking is severely limited near Prescott. Mogollon rim is calling your name for the summer heat. As well as the Greer areas. Thanks for showing people the Arizona many do not know about.

Man you were driving sideways across some pretty steep inclines at what point do you have to worry about loosing your center of gravity and rolling over? That would be the scariest part of the journey for me. I'm so impressed though!

Another interesting RU-vidr is Merlin from Old school Garage, Arizona. A bit of a nutter but knowledgeable about off roading and vehicles. He'd enjoy the Mog for sure. He's somewhere in Arizona. Nice trip!

What a great video! So beautiful and you do a great job balancing the views, life on the road and the dogs! Our dogs would’ve been in the water for sure, which is fun for us to watch but wet big dogs in a small space is a mess. PS You also gave us license to take our Vitamix with us!

Nice video. That’s been my backyard for my entire life. It is my go to run to introduce people to the vast differences in terrain found in the middle part of Arizona. When does the navigator get some seat time at the helm?

Hi guys! Just wondering what the rules are around registering an 80's unimog in the US? We're currently in NZ looking to do a build here with an 80's - right-hand drive base vehicle but my partner is from Seattle and we would want to ship the vehicle over and register in the US down the line (may need to do the left hand drive conversion?). Can't find info for the older vehicles other than that it apparently needs to be no less than 25 yrs old to be legal in US but obviously you've managed it fine which is great to see but the mixed info is so confusing!!

There's a lot to this that is probably too much to share in a YT comment. First thing is that to import a Unimog into the US it needs to be 25 years OR OLDER, not less that 25 years old. That is important! Also making sure it is recognizable as a camper and not just truck will save you lots of money in import taxes. We recommend reaching out to NMT shipping which is who we shipped our Unimog with. They can provide more information for your specific situation!

I realize that the build was for off road, but don't you get bored with the slow progress of this far off road? I could see a day trip in a Hummer or Jeep, etc, but doesn't day after day get old? Maybe I'm just old and in a hurry... 🙄 I have always enjoyed history and it is hard to believe that stage coaches survived the boulder roads.

Not at all! We want to travel slow and enjoy ourselves. After 8 years on the road this is what works for us and brings us the most joy. We've raced from place to place in the past and it only brings burnout when you're full time. Honestly we wished we had taken more time on this trail!

Hey guys my rig is tall and heavy. How do you decide what trails/roads to take and what to avoid?

We make sure to always check trail reports on OnX. Often people will give recent updates of the conditions and provide photos of the trail. We also like to check the elevation change of the trail which you can slide through on the route and see the position on the map. Very helpful to anticipate intensity of uphill and downhill sections. Lastly the trail rating. Onx provides 1-10 trail rating and color coded routes on the map. We haven’t done anything over a 5 at this point. At the end of the day, it’s hard to anticipate everything, especially low trees. So it’s all part of the adventure to get out there and see what you find ☺️

How’s the interior faring the rough roads? Things staying put? Just watching all that rocking and rolling and swaying as you navigate some of those rocky spots make me wonder about the inside.

It’s been great!! Not too bad at all really! Someone suggested we put a camera in the camper box for the rough sections and record so you can see what’s going on in there haha Not a bad idea!

@@OurWayToRoam With some of that in mind. I will tow a Suzuki samurai that is made for rock climbing. They are only 1900 lbs . This will be my emergency recovery vehicle. As one spare tire does you no good 50 miles from help. Even if you change the tire on the trial. Are you going to drive back 50 miles with NO spare?

Hi you two, you know how to document your trip properly and show beautiful pictures. Nice to see how you organized your trip and highlight your "1987 Unimog 1300 L, ex-German military ambulance". It's obvious that you really enjoy reaching these remote and beautiful areas over unpaved roads and terrain. Now the advantages of the Mog are obvious to everyone, and it shows once again that you have made the right decision for this vehicle.
