I would probably go with sage green and floral quilting or other nature themed. I did like the yellow, too.

What is the name of the design with waves? It was the first quilt you showed. It is a lovely design.

"Single Wave" is what it is on my machine. I'm not certain where I got it from or if it was one that came with my machine.

Very interesting, especially the thread color samples. What is your favorite type of batting to machine quilt? I use Warm and White when I make my small projects that I quilt on my sewing machine. Does Warm and White work on a long arm machine? I hear a lot of discussion about whether long armers want pieced backing to have vertical or horizontal seams. Do you have a preference? And finally, what size seam do you prefer in the backing, and do you like it pressed open or to the side? There seem to be so many conflicting opinions regarding these questions.
@DH-qz2so
@DH-qz2so 24 дня назад
I have heard that Longarmers prefer Horizontal pieced backing, with a genorous seam allowance, and pressed open, to reduce bulk.
@ISeeStarsQuilting
@ISeeStarsQuilting 24 дня назад
I think that this question might have as many different answers as there are quilters out there lol I stock big big rolls of bulk batting for quilters here in my home. its way less for you to ship to me. I love the warm and natural brand but I prefer their bleached cotton instead of the natural fibers because occasionally I've been able to see a few seeds still in there under a bright what quilt top. As for the pieced backing... I work with whatever people give me. As long as it fits and isn't some crazy wonky diagonal crazy business going on, the seams can be either horizontal or vertical. You may find that a quilter who works on very high priced show pieces have a different opinion for a quilt that will be judged or is potential for winning prize money? I'm not sure - I quilt because I love it and I want people to be able to use their creations and finish them proudly! Pressing your seams open on the backing is the easiest way to spread out the bulk of fabrics and a generous 1/4 -1/2" seam is best :) Let me know if you have other questions!

Hi Kristen. I am 67 and I started sewing in 2020. I only do hand sewing and hand quilting but I find all your videos and tutorials really interesting and I often apply it to my hand quilting journey. I have only made 2 quilts out of 4 and it took nearly 4 years as they are story memory quilts, all hand sewn. I would like to ask , not only to you but also to your subscribers, for your help with my very latest project. My son is in real estate and I am making a large centrepiece consisting of a few houses. Each house will have a collage of photos for each of his sports, work family etc 5 in total, the size of an A4. I would like to fit a flap over each photo collage as part of the house, the flap opening like a page. The quilt will go on his bed, I hope. How would you recommend I do the flap? I did think that perhaps it would be double fabric with a fusible in the centre? You helped me with my quilt that I finished two weeks ago. I apologise for my question not being related to your video. Thank you.
@ISeeStarsQuilting
@ISeeStarsQuilting 23 дня назад
I love to think outside of the box! -- I would use a front piece of fabric and a back piece that has a think fusable interfacing in it. You could also just use batting and make it a quilted flap? maybe a snap or a button to keep the little doors closed and flat when not in use? This sounds really cool! I'd love to see a photo when you finish it! 🥰

Great Video! Q:: curious...since your longarm room is adjacent/open to your kitchen, is there an issue with kitchen smells, on client's quilts? Or worry about steam, splatters, etc., when you cook, with the quilts right there? Mind you..if you were baking brownies, I'd be fine with my quilt smelling like chocolate! Lol!
@ISeeStarsQuilting
@ISeeStarsQuilting 24 дня назад
lol I have never had a problem with kitchen smells on any of my fabrics or quilts. (brownie scented quilts LOL) I'm a super neat freak in the kitchen because my entire home is very open concept... so.... if literally just our throw pillows are out of place or the dogs pulled out every toy they own, our house looks like a mess 😂 We don't plan to move anytime soon, but believe me, that is a live and learn moment!

I can see creases on the quilt with animal blocks. Do you press the quilt before longarming?
@DH-qz2so
@DH-qz2so 24 дня назад
Washing quilts after finishing, usually hides creases, as everything shrinks up a bit, for that nice cozy look!
@ISeeStarsQuilting
@ISeeStarsQuilting 24 дня назад
I do ask that the quilters give their quilts a good press prior to sending them to me so the seams are as flat as possible. The creases you see on the animal quilt is just from it being mailed. It won't show in the final quilting, but if the seam is really pressed in there good, I will go over it with an iron before I put it on the machine

Hi. Thank you for this video. I am new to longarm quilting. I got one to do my own quilts. Where do you learn how to do it? I have watched a number of RU-vid videos but I am a bit overwhelmed of where to start.
@ISeeStarsQuilting
@ISeeStarsQuilting 24 дня назад
A lot of my knowledge is self taught and just experience! I suggest that you not try to start out on a quilt top that you have a lot of attachment to. Start out on something very simple - I practiced a lot of a jelly roll race quilt that I made and didn't really love. The stitching on it is crazy... a little curly area, some flowers, meandering, straight lines, wavy lines.... all over, just testing out what felt good. There was no pressure to make it "pretty" so I was free to just sew! -- Did the person that you purchased the machine from offer to give you any lessons?
@natwill5684
@natwill5684 23 дня назад
Thank you for your advice! Yes, I had several classes on how to use the machine and they are always available if I have questions. They were great. I need to get use to the longarm and not be afraid of it. Thank you again. I really like your channel and enjoy your videos.

Do individuals bind their quilt before they bring it to you to quilt? OR do they bind after you've quilted it?
@DH-qz2so
@DH-qz2so 24 дня назад
Typically, binding is the very very last thing you do on a quilt...so you can ease out puckers and extra fabric to the edges, before you bind.
@ISeeStarsQuilting
@ISeeStarsQuilting 24 дня назад
Binding is the very last step. There needs to be excess backing for the clips on the side of my machine to hold the fabric tight and for the machine to be able to stitch edge to edge. Then, when I take it off the machine, I trim the perimeter of the quilt and it'll be ready for binding!

HAVE YOU consudered BUYUNG a BABYLOC Merdian 2 Embroidery machine? And WHY
@ISeeStarsQuilting
@ISeeStarsQuilting 8 дней назад
I have not looked into babyloc machines. I have zero reason not to... I have a very close friend who taught me a lot of quilting and she sews on a Janome machine. I learned a lot from her and bought the same machine she had when I found a used one. I think it really matters what machine makes sense to you. Some have more computer interfaces and touch screens and others are very simple and straight forward. Some have a million extra bells and whistles. Buying a sewing machine is very similar to the car world - they all will get the job done, but what you feel most comfortable in may not be what someone else chooses.

Yes! I'm filling up my spots with quilters who are ahead on their holiday gifts (waaaay ahead of me! lol) I'd be happy to take your quilts. There is a $55 downpayment that goes towards your invoice to hold your spot and then you can mail your quilt in to me. Theres a 3 week turn around but I can usually get it out quicker than that depending on the ones I have waiting. stitch.academy/longarm-quilting

Question: I just opened my quilt from the long arm quilter. She showed me a portion when I picked it up. It looks beautiful. However, after opening it fully, there is an entire section that looks like she ripped out original stitches and corrected the pattern. I’m so disappointed that we didn’t have a conversation when I picked it up. It’s a wedding gift. I don’t know how to approach my long arm quilter about it. My heart is hurting and I’m trying to keep perspective. Your feedback is appreciated.
@ISeeStarsQuilting
@ISeeStarsQuilting 23 дня назад
oh no! This is really sad to hear... Question, did she tear out the quilting stitches or the piecing stitches of your quilt? -- Even though a longarm machine is wonderful... sometimes the tension is off or the stitches just don't look right. I've had to tear out some a few times. If thats the case, You can add some steam and work on ironing that section or use a ironing spray like "magic Sizing" to get the holes to shrink back up. I can't imagine why she would have ripped out piecing stitches! You can also put the whole quilt in the wash (with color catchers!) and the shrinkage will bunch up with your quilt and you'll never see the repairs. -- Personally, I would have a discussion with her - maybe not when you're so heartbroken, but ask her what happened and if there is something on your part that you didn't realize or if it was just a mistake? I'm sure your quilt is absolutely beautiful and will be adored as a wedding gift! 🥰

Thank you so much for the ideas. Yes, it is just ripped out quilting stitches. I spoke to her today and she told me the same thing you did LOL. She apologized for not bringing it to my attention at pick up. I feel hopeful that it will turn out just fine after washing. Thank you again for responding.
