Rebecca Entrekin some of us have learning disabilities and it’s awesome when we are shamed constantly on the internet by people who like to point out grammar mistakes. I’d tell you where to put your dictionary but it’s inappropriate.👍
This kind of reminds me of what Jordan Page does, shelf cooking. The only difference is she shops her pantry, fridge and freezer, then only spends a tiny amount (like $25 or $30) for a few fresh ingredients and feeds her family of 8! I liked your version too. I now have new dinner ideas as well. Tfs
Kate maybe they eat out on the weekends or with family? I only plan 5 meals to cook a week because we end up going out at least once in the weekends, do a left over night, or we are at a family members house.
I don't have any kids so 3 nights a week I just end up eating snacks from like 5:30-7:00 and then I'm not hungry for dinner 🤷lol and my husband is strange and eats like 2 Chipotle burritos for lunch while I'm at work so he'll eat a poptart for dinner. I'm not sayin' it's right, but it does unintentionally save us 💰 lol.
And now I am going to make every single one of these meals because they look DELICIOUS! I was skeptical on the success of this challenge, but girl, you nailed it. Nice work!
Pls do more of this. I love it so much. This will work if it is just me and my husband and my 11 yr old. But with two toddlers this wont work. My toddlers eat constantly we call them bottomless pits. Almost half of our budget goes towards snacks.
I love this video idea!! All the meal/shopping videos I see are always for HUGE families, and as a single person, I think we could use some advice and tips as well!!!
At first I thought it was $25 for the week feeding all meals! Now that would be a challenge!!! But for dinner, it is definitely possible. When you can feed a family for $5, it feels really terrific. Thinking of the savings from not ordering out!
Yey, I knew you could do it! Thanks for the last meal idea.😃 I just fixed my pantry and I came across a salsa jar that will expire soon... so, tomorrow I will put it in my crock pot with some chicken legs I have in the freezer, as well as some vegetable mix that I can roast, & make some white rice to go along with it.😉😋
I make Mexican-style instant rice by substituting half the water with salsa. Example: 1/2 cup water, 1/2 cup salsa. Bring to boil, add 1 cup rice. I also add cumin, chili powder and cilantro to the water for more flavor.
I LOVED this video!! Loved all your creative and simple meal ideas too! If you would like to do another week of meals like this again that would be awesome!
I enjoyed this! Also, there are more things you can do to make it even cheaper. Pizza dough is super cheap and easy to make yourself, and all you need for pizza sauce is a can of diced tomatoes and some herbs. You don’t even have to cook it, because it will be baked in the oven. You can cook a bag of beans in your slow cooker or instant pot and get way more than you get in a can for a cheaper price. Just some tricks I’m slowly learning 🙂 I’d love to see more videos like this!
I definitely think you could. In college my husband and I had to live off of a budget of $25 a week for all our food. My tips are rice, dry beans, and save all veggie scraps in the freezer to make broth. Bone in bulk chicken thighs that we would freeze in little packs really got us through a lot.
Seriously can't get enough of these types of videos from you! Going on mat leave in June, and I'm looking forward to planning meals, using your guidelines and rocking a budgeted menu!
I did this for our dinners this week! I’m so excited, and IMPRESSED! My husband liked that it was different meals we don’t typically cook. Groceries are so expensive. I’d love to see more videos like this!
Love this!! Someone else commented that it’s nice to see a video like this for 2 people. Cooking for 1 or 2 is difficult some times so it’s wonderful to see these awesome examples!
Our store sells their brand of frozen corn: $1 for 1 pound. It's healthier and you get more. Also, if you have a windowsill herb garden, your Italian seasoning is practically free. I also make our own taco seasoning.
Make your own taco and other seasonings -LOADS less sodium and cheap! I also never buy pasta or other sauce- get Crushed tomatoes and seaon-- the BEST for pizza or sauce !
Miss you! Hope all is well 😊. I had a baby in March and love watching your videos. I feel like you’re a friend I chat with often about our baby boys and mom life.
Just completed this challenge up in Canada, cost us $33.96 + tax which is right on par if you add in the exchange rate. This didn’t include staples for us like rice and garlic. Amazing job! Would love to see more videos like this :)
Finally, someone who only cooks with what they can buy for $25! Most people use frozen food/stuff from their pantry and say, "Look, I totally won the challenge!" Also all the recipes you did look amazing and I'm totally going to try them.
I paused the video... yes, I think you can do it- I have faith in you! It might be challenging, coming from a saver primarily on groceries... but it is possible.😉
Why don't boys come with as a warning card when they are born? 🤣 My little guy is only 7 and as soon as we get in the car after football he eats 2 sandwiches on the way home, then eats dinner like we've never fed him before. My girls are very athletic too but have never ate like he does.
Seems everyone in the comments is an expert and has better ideas on how you could have done this better. Well I’m here to say that you did great! This was fun to watch and it would be great to see more of these videos. Thanks for sharing!
You can do it if you shop the sales at your store for the week. I usually buy a whole chicken and bake it then it can make a million other meals that don't taste like leftovers!!
I live in London and although things may vary I generally spend 25 pounds max on my food shop. I think I save a lot of money as I eat Plant Based and try to plan for a while weeks worth of food. 🌱☺️
Really impressive. Of course she’s feeding a family of 2, and did a 5-day meal plan. But still a great job saving money and still having yummy healthy meals. I’m inspired!
You are so amazing. How often do you do your grocery shopping? Do you ever shop with coupons? You should possibly do a full grocery shopping video and show your full trip
You're definitely able to do it. In a month i spend maximum around 150 dollars on groceries. I'm vegan and i try my best to budget as well as possible. This amount includes my toiletries. I make a lot of my own homemade beauty products which saves me money and its better for my skin. I feed my husband, myself and my toddler and occasionally have my in-laws over for dinner. Budgeting your groceries and buying the budget brand and shopping around is definitely worth it.
Great job girl! Wow!! I didn’t stop it and comment because I have faith in you and knew you’d do it! Your meals looked fantastic too! I just dropped $200 yesterday at the grocery store! Of course it had been about 3 weeks and my pets 🐶🐱🐱 needed grub too!!
Great meals! This is similar to what I try to make. I buy white rice in a huge bag and it lasts forever. Also you can make a cheap and quick Mexican rice with some chicken broth, canned diced tomatoes, and spices, just cook them up together in a pan.
Great video! Shopping your own pantry before shopping always helps to decrease your grocery bill. I highly suggest investing in a spice rack. Walmart has some decently cheap ones and then you won't have to buy seasoning packets.
You definitely need to make this a regular video upload. I liked a bunch of your recipes and they also helped me budget dinner for a week. I could use sever more ideas.
YUM!! These all look so good! You gave me great inspiration for this week. And you cracked me up when you said “Yes, I’m sitting on the couch because I’m not going to pretend I’m sitting at the table eating a fancy dinner ...” 🤣🤣
I have a 6 year old and a 3 year old. I'm going to try this next week just for dinners! Im sure I will go over, but not by much. My kiddos are not big eaters.
Yes. I have done 14 dinners 14 lunches and 14 breakfast for two people many times. Beans, rice, potatoes, oatmeal, 10 lb chicken leg quarters, frozen veggies, eggs, milk, and fresh onions, carrots, and celery and whatever fruit is cheap from Aldi and using staples already on hand to make biscuits, cornbread, pancakes, tortillas or fry bread etc. really not hard if you plan well and have a good supply of herbs, spices, oils and badic dry staples like sugar honey syrup flour cornmeal lard or shortening butter condiments leavening agents like yeast baking powder and baking soda and condiments like soy sauce vinegars BBQ sauces hot sauce ketchup Mayo and mustard etc. if you have cheese or sour cream or cottage cheese or yogurt on hand that's s bonus Now if you have few of this basic staples and herbs and spices it would be a lot more challenging 1️⃣💜👸🏻
Kallie, loved this video! Please do more like this (maybe a slightly higher amount - $45.00 - with some more varied recipe ingredients). Thanks for the tasty recipes!
At Aldi’s- you can do this mainly non-gmo and organic. Plan, organize and do the prep yourself. Ask your Grandma or google “depression recipes”. Meatless Monday, smaller portions. 💥 🤓
New subbie. I've watched your videos randomly for a while but this made me hit the subscribe. I actually may see if I can do this on my channel but for keto meals!
Think it depends on your life style. If your at stay at home, with basic, you can make most anything, and much better for you. Not only dry beans, but flour, for tortillas, english muffins, pizza crust, so much more. Salsa, Pasta sauce, is just as easy, make your own. So on. Growing up my mom fixed mashed red beans, little mayo, onion, dash garlic, for a sandwich. All in all, for a 'faster' way to cook, i think it was a good job!
