A Wild Camp in Steve's Ancient Woodland

Lovely camp Sandy, I agree it's sometimes relaxing to enjoy the basic things of life such as the looking at a camp fire, hearing the rain on a tarp and the smells of the woodland. It's great form of meditation 💦🔥🍁

Another great camp in some lovely woodland.Your little friend was a smooth newt which is an amphibian and would love that damp woodland and rain fall. They will be thinking about finding somewhere to hibernate soon, although the weather has been very warm lately. Thanks for the video.

Wonderful camp, so atmospheric. I'd christen the lizard Isaac as I think he was a newt 😀 Also great to see the fly agaric. I ate a shamanic dose about 10 years ago and had a very strange time of it! Not for the faint hearted 😀

Would the old bad-winter car trick of deflating the tyres a bit and getting better grip on a 'soggy' tread spread do any good on that style of bike. I pretty much know nowt about bikes, decades since I even tried one, so that's one for you to answer. You just watch yourself around that fly agaric. Can't be having you thinking you're driving Santa's sleigh on the way home. That looked a lovely little break amid the trees. Dry, warm, comfy and fed, all with a calming soundtrack ...

Yep, that looked a great camp. Sandy i have the same problems with my himi tyres but i must say the road travel is fine which is mainly what i do so can put up with a little sliding from time to time. At least until i wear out the current ones. Cheers.

To lift the foot of your Bivvy you could just use a simple Tarp Clip, Sandy. Just clip it where a Guy line would normally attach and rig a Guy line in the normal way. They are dead cheap, usually 4 in a packet.

I think the light is radiant, as in heat. The lizard is warming up. That time of year warm during the day and freezing cold at night.

And that old friend is the way to do it. When you have a lizard sharing the dry and warmth right next to you at this time of year, you know you're in a good and healthy woodland. With winter fast approaching, I knew that back end would start sliding around. Was that brew you had one of those coffee bags I sent you? If so, I hope you enjoy them! Bacon fried with butter...now that's something I've not tried yet...bet it tasted lovely. And greens from the garden too...now that's healthy. Atb buddy

Ah, yes; my Dad used to love a Sloe Gin Fizz on camping trips. I'm not sure but I think maybe the most slippery footing for a bike off-road is damp pine needles. I guess I get claustrophobic in a small bivvy; I just end up spinning like a top.

I had the bmw gs when it first came out fantastic bike. But I forgot to back off the front shock after a camping holiday and saw off the front tyre in one thousand miles. The new ones look much better than mine.

Do you still use that wee HOVERair X1 drone Sandy? If it could cope with the small overhanging trees, I think it would have been good footage following you on the bike into the woods. 🙂

Hey Sandy, had a. Idea/hack for your bivvy footbox, without sewing etc... maybe make two camping buttons from stones inside the bivvy, wrap cord around them from the outside and suspend from sticks to raise the footbox? That way you could keep them attached to bivvy without piercing/sewing the bivvy.

Now Sandy after consuming a few fare tots of that concoction will you be able to drive the next day ? Presume the answer was Yes and the rain did not dampen your enthusiasm.

I dream of buying some woodland in the next few years, but I don't like the way that these middlemen are ripping people off. I wonder what the best way to contact land owners direct is. I love the idea of hooped bivvys - watching nature whilst you're laying down, warm and snug.

The CRT doesn’t really work as a charity it still relies on government funding which is reducing by 300 million over the next ten years. The CRT asks canal users other than boaters walkers and cyclists to donate. I just wonder how many of them do🤔 I’m guessing not many, the towpaths are very busy. It seems so much of the canal network is being run down 😟

Good to see you out on your bike, have you finished the work on it ? I do wonder whether we should sell our bikes and get a boat with all this rain😊🚣‍♂️. Can I ask how you go about finding a woodland to camp in , somewhere away from people that might cause you bother?
