A Wild Canadian Lynx And A Cameraman Develop An Amazing Relationship | Wild Canadian Year 

The lynx literally used the cameraman as a scarecrow to corner the rabbit between it and the cameraman, it's bloody brilliant.

We take these shots for granted, that is a lot of hard work for a few seconds.

The only mistake he make is that, he didn't bring a box. Cat love that.

Is no one gonna acknowledge he built a relationship with this cat for him to likely just disappear after like that lynx was probably so confused the next day when his human who helped him hunt wasn’t back Edit: this was originally supposed to be a joke but also lightly serious and the amount of people tryna hit me with facts that I A already know or B just makes y’all sound pressed like chill tf out 😂

Imagine if Sam was also camera/human shy, and the crew had to earn his trust to finally get close enough to film him filming the elusive cat.

It actually took the cameraman 24 days to earn the trust of the cameraman so he could film him filming the hunt.

So there was a cameraman following a cameraman following a lynx following a rabbit. Huh.

Sam is finally starting to trust the cameraman who's been following and filming him while he's been following a lynx around and filming it.

He cracked me up when he was loudly crunching thru snow and had the nerve to turn around go like this 🤫 to the camera 😂😂

That wasn't an amazing relationship, they didn't even kiss.

I wonder if Max was like "this dude is gonna STARVE if I don't show him how to hunt. Ok so the first lesson with hunting is"

I grew up in the woods, and we had the elusive lynx around us my whole upbringing. No-one ever saw it, we'd sometimes see tracks in the snow when out walking deep in the woods, but that's it. Then in my 20s I got two kittens. And lynx tracks in the snow started to appear around my house on a daily basis. I usually had a window open for my kittens to get in and out, so I was kinda worried. One day I got home, the two kittens had brought a big bird inside and feathers were littered all across the room. I assumed they found a dead bird, it was too big for them to catch, probably a juvenile blackbird(not yet fully black). Then, I noticed the kittens, who were about 6-7 months old, started leaving mice outside. And every morning the mice would be gone, and new lynx tracks would be seen around the place they would leave the mice. In the end I saw the lynx crossing the fields, and I took my cats and lifted them up so they'd get a look. It's hard to know what a cat is thinking, but they looked very comfortable and familiar with the lynx. It's the first time I ever saw a real lynx, and it didn't look too bothered about me being there at all. Maybe the lynx had lost her own kittens and was thus attracted to my kittens? They started mutually feeding each other? It's one of the most precious and weirdest experiences of my life, lynx has been one of my favourite animals since I was a kid.

Cat: "C'mon yeah? I'm hungry, bring that thing you're always dragging around. Make yourself useful."

This is the best documentary, a cameraman recording lynx and the cameraman gets recorded by another cameraman and just maybe.... That other cameraman get recorded by Lynx.

This just makes me sad because after the shot was taken, sam wouldve left and max would be like where did my friend go. :((((((

Then the cameraman left, and Max was left wondering where his little helper went - catching stuff was so much easier with him around...

I give alot of respect to these cameramen who go out into the wild to record this amazing footage of all kinds of animals..I think nature documentaries are an important conservation tool,they help people to appreciate animals and nature and in turn make people care about conserving these wild places..well done camerapeople well done 😊

Max actually flanked the rabbit to attack it in a pincer movement in unison with the cameraman. An admirable military mind. I, Commander Shepard of the Normandy, declare this cat the official mascot of the N7.

That guy has an insane amount of patience, props to him for continuously trying to get the shot.

This is how domestication started waaaay back. Animals realised that you can use humans as roadblock, essentially make us moving traps.

Imagine spending two and a half months to get this brief footage. Some perseverance it takes to film wildlife. And we get to sit in the comfort of our homes and enjoy these video clips. Feel grateful!

The cat instantly knew the rabbit would hesitate if he ran it towards the human.

I'm now convinced that it is not just the Canadians that are nice, but also the wildlife in Canada. There must be some kind of happiness field in that country.

What a dedication wildlife cameraman has

That lynx is smart! He literally used the camera man to his advantage to catch the rabbit. He moved around the rabbit until the rabbit was directly between him and the camera man, and then chased the rabbit directly at the camera man. You can see at one point just as the rabbit is running past the tree, it sees the camera man and appears to be caught of guard (5:24) which makes him veer left but he loses some balance and the lynx catches up to the rabbit in no time! What a brilliant strategy!

Narrator: "So Sam tries another approach...." My Imagination: Sam: *shaking bag of cat food* "KITTY KITTY KITTY!!!"

How amazing that the Lynx actually trusted the cameraman to get that close to him so often, especially when hunting & resting. Beautiful cats they are.

nature videographers are dedicated and awesome. seriously some of the things they capture you would have absolutely no hope of ever seeing in your lifetime. it's incredible.

Honestly i think the most interesting thing about this is that this is possibly a look back to the very beginning of how cats and even dogs became domesticated. Some saw the humans as a non threat and carried a more friendly nature, like this lynx, most likely learned that usually where there were humans there was food, and eventually developed a beneficial coexistence.

In Northern Ontario, I got to see a lynx mother and her kittens crossing the road in front of our vehicle. It was incredible! She was calling them and had to go back and get the last one, because he was being stubborn 😄

Story time: When I was really young my father found an abandoned kitten on the side of the road. He picked her up and brought her home. She got a bit bigger after a while, we were confused on how big she was for just a cat. We went to the vet and it turned out she was a lynx. Her and I were very close, she would cuddle me and love on me, we were that close. One day one of my dads friends left the door open and we never saw her again.

"The rabbit was completely oblivious." A completely ignorant statement. The rabbit relies on staying still since the cat hunts by movement, not scent. At some point, the rabbit realizes holding still has failed and it flees.

What an amazing shot! 76 days later and all the waiting finally pays off. Cheers!

That Mad Max decided to accept Sam's presence is interesting but this vid also provides insight into the patience and commitment required to make the remarkable vids of wildlife most of us take for granted. A sequence of less than a minute can take an experienced team months if not years to acquire. Their dedication is admirable and unless a vid goes viral (very rare) I doubt they make even minimum wage for all the hours they invest. Thanks to CBC for posting this.

This young Man was able to film this beautiful Cat that took Patience and Determination that few people have. The cold alone would be enough to discourage most Cinematographers but he stayed with it and even was accepted by the Lynx to allow him to get the very valuable close up footage.

Great cameraman. Never gave up and gets the shot. Kudos young man.

So it's true that Canadians, even lynxes, are polite & friendly.

Growing up in "the bush" of N.E. Ontario I've heard lynx calling many times, but only once in over 50 yrs have I seen one. It was 20 years ago, I was taking my 7 year old son to his hockey game in Ville Marie, Quebec. We had to leave home very early in the morning as we drove down our winding driveway, we turned a corner and there it was - about 10 metres in front of us. It looked at us, stretched its front legs to the top of the 5 ft snow bank and pounced over it. If I didn't have to get my son to his hockey game, I would have sat there for five minutes and processed the magical moment we had just experienced. After listening to their eerie mating calls for most of my childhood (very scary for a child to hear - I thought someone was being murdered in the gully near our house)....it was amazing to see one. Gorgeous animal!

i've admired wilderness photograhers since I was a kid watching Marty Stouffer's Wild America. Some of the shots they were able to get were truly epic... I cant imagine how many hours it takes to get the 30 second money shot
