How on earth could you rebuild and outboard with BOOBS you ask?!? You asked for more "Techie" videos and you shall receive! Join marine engineer and Captain Jolly Holly as she takes us from case to crank on a 25hp Yamaha 2-stroke outboard. To my knowledge a video of this process in detail on a Yamaha 25hp or 15hp does not exist elsewhere on youtube. If you need to remove any system from you outboard at all this video should cover at least a portion if not all of it and help get you started... Covering in great detail every step of the process with tech tips on the side to apply to other outboard models. I keep it basic and general so even the less mechanically inclined can follow along to learn something new about outboards while those eager to advance their mechanical capabilities can use this as guide to their own repairs. There will be a 'part two' possibly 'three' of this video where we explore the internal components and cover a full rebuild of the outboard back to running condition! I also plan to cover carburetor cleaning, repair, and rebuild in great detail very soon as that's the number one problem most cruisers are faced with when their outboards "just don't run right" ;) hope you guys enjoy and learn something new! and never forget... 'whether you think you can or you think you cannot.... YOU ARE RIGHT!!!!'
Check out the NEW Another Adventure store for some of the fun and funny designs I've been working on over the last few weeks!

Best low tech method to recon a crank I have seen is Molasses, a very experienced vintage engine restorer showed me a WW2 Blitz truck crank which was recovered from remote Australian bushland after 50 years of exposure open to tropical elements and the occasional fire. He just washed it off, gave it a light scrub with an old broom, threw it in a drum of 1:3 molasses/freshwater (large volume molasses is available from stock feed suppliers), pulled it out after a a couple of weeks and washed it off. The bearing surfaces didn't even look like they needed to be linished (just don't try to restore aluminium the same way....it will dissolve in a couple of days). Looks like you made do with what you had, looking forward to see how it went, cheers.

Great job Capt. Holly!!! I use to work in a small engine repair shop, but never had the chance to work on an outboard. Labeling and bagging is a great trick I used all the time, saves a lot of headaches. The only thing I didn't have was a camera to take pictures, it's a lifesaver now...Peace Luv Rock N Roll

That Yamaha weighs around 125 pounds and you make it look light. Impressive. You have proven once again that were there is necessity, willpower and determination there is a way.

Surprisingly enough the most advanced part of this job was the flywheel puller... The only other tools used were basic plyers, Philips and flat head screwdriver plus wrenches and sockets ranging from 10mn to 14 mm with the exception of the the 21mm socket on the flywheel...

This reminded me of two things; my first repair job on a car and when we took two Alpha Romeo Milanos and made them into showroom stock racers for IMSA. I had no idea what I was doing as I took apart the brake cylinder. As I took things off I laid them out in order and made notes. I then reassembled things in order after renewing them. It worked! The Alphas were the two cars for a dealership team. I suggested we label everything but the factory trained mechanics said we didn't need to. So we completely stripped the first car WITHOUT labeling anything. It was a real PITA trying to figure out where all the nuts and bolts belonged during reassembly. During the processing of the second car, EVERYTHING was labeled. I didn't need to say "I told you so" since everyone knew! Great video and thanks. I am about to redo my first outboard and I was wondering what they looked like inside. Thanks again!

If you have access to dry ice it and can submerge the entire assembly in it for 20 minutes. Then carefully remove and apply heat to the bearing causing to the increase in size quickly, then you may be able to pull the bear off. I know ... no dry ice...
