I feel like the reason a lot of people think the film was mediocre was because you either didn’t pay attention to it, or you just didn’t understand the underlying themes and messages of the movie. There is soo much more to this film than just diverse casting or pretty imagery.

from what i hear, there really isn't. it's a PJ repeat.
@LordFinkenstein

It's mediocre because it's an unfaithful adaptation of the book that omits very important plot points and characters.

That clip of the director basically saying “It doesn’t have to be good or make sense, it’s for kids” entirely explains what went so horribly wrong with this movie (and what goes wrong with a lot of other things slopped together for kids by disconnected adults who think it doesn’t matter).
@RhaegarDefense
@RhaegarDefense 2 года назад
quite late but i just remembered theres a movie for this, was considering watching it but i felt it in my GUT this is one of those percy jackson repeats. book adaptations are fine when they're like, lord of the rings. not when the directors put no effort and try to get a "moral of the story" that would translate into our world and carry our world stereotypes into those from the movie, like the white father and what not. this is why hollywood is dead now. godzilla vs kong? trash. jurassic park? only "ok". LIVE ACTION. TRASH!!!

I read the book, but found the movies quite pathetic. I feel like they spent most of their money on the actors and actresses. They dragged on parts and I felt really disappointed, for I was really excited. They could have made it a lot better. The culture and strong female role models was great. I just wish that they ditched some scenes and put in more important or interesting scenes from the original book.
@stormtepas9768

sameee. I also hate how they reference things like you should know them even though they're only in the books?! like, in this one moment they're like 'oh look, it's Aunt Beast' and I hated that stuff. I had such adequate hopes :(

Lol we read this book in the like the 4th or 5th grade. I can’t remember enough of it to be super disappointed. Ultimately I think people shouldn’t look for differences and get stuck on them. Enjoy the ride and respect the time that went into making it.

That's what they always do. Then they try to sandwich it all in a 1 hr 48 minute long movie when it would take 3 and a half hours to fully explain everything from the book.

This movie left me so confused. There’s so much missing from it. Like how tf does a logical mother let a word lady into her home and not call the cops straight away. And that Calvin guy comes out of the blue, like are they friends? Or are they just aquatints? Also, everything is just so quick and hollow. (Edit): apparently the book is better than the movie. Is always true

Lee Nikolettos i read the book and I was given the impression that the characters do things out of the ordinary without acknowledging how strange it is, like this was a thing to expect, so I didn't find it weird, like you would go wtf if you saw a dragon but wouldn't be surprised if you saw one in an RPG

@kirkdarling4120

The book neatly explains all that. In the book, the younger child Charles Wallace is brilliant autistic telepath. He never talks to anyone except his own family (because he's read everyone else's mind and decided they're not worth talking to). However, he DOES talk to Calvin and Mrs Whatsit, and THAT is the reason the mother allows them into the lives of the family--she wants to know what Charles Wallace sees in them that encourages him to open up to them. I can't see any reason why this movie changes that plot point. Charles Wallace's telepathy is also the reason he is necessary on the mission to find their father--he has a telepathic link to their father to lead them to the right destination. He's the natural child of the father in the book, not adopted, and I don't know why the movie changed that point either.

Im kinda seeing alot of people dislike this movie, and its fine, imma just express my unpopular opinion then...but i actually kinda liked this movie, i looked more into Meg's personal journey (and SPOILER WARNING) I liked how its more about Meg accepting herself and learning to accept her faults and that she is worthy of love. I see that Meg defines herself by events that happen in her life, her father leaving without a trace has defined her very being for the past 4 years (Her trust issues and aggression). And at the end where she still accepts her faults and learns that she is WORTHY OF LOVE. That message just resonates with me so much.

I saw the movie. Spoilers for book and movie below: In the book, as far as I can remember from the graphic novel from Hope Larson's adaptation, Meg was explained how the tesseract works but she never did it on her own. In the movie, after defeating the IT, she, after encouragement from the mrss, just tessers. How in the world did she learn how to do that if they didn't explained how to? Also, there is a scene, as a flashback, of Meg's parents explaining the tesseract. The dad has a graphic design of two points separated by a straight line. This goes against what the author was saying because, in the book, tessering is simply finding the fastest route to another place, hence a short cut. It was to point out that the shortest distance between 2 points isn't a straight line, but a curve. Still like the movie, but man it isn't a good adaptation.

I agree that they needed to do better with world building, the trailers in my opinion made the movie look like it was going to be this epic adventure where the kids go to all these different places. It was ultimately a kinda boring movie because it felt like they were trying to get to the end goal as fast as possible.

Yeah! I recently read the book , it’s better than the movie. This movie is nothing but cliche hero’s journey which has been done to death in recent years, Disney style Mc Diversity, a la small world ride, with generic music score, a confusing plot for anyone who didn’t read the book, whitewashing away any reference to L’Engle’s liberal Christian symbolism in the battle between good and evil and they completely cut out the part of the story where the protagonists land on the planet Ixchel, where amen meets Aunt Beast, that would have been an enjoyable scene, Disney could’ve made the creatures look cute. But waht really gets under my skin, is the endless hype from the director, who’s clearly a die hard SJW, promoting an agenda rather than telling a story.
