Great update. It took me 7 yrs to turn over 60k miles. Had to laugh about "only 175 mi per tank" when running 80+ mph. This summer while riding the interstates in ID & UT I only got 100 mi per tank on my Stratoliner Deluxe with the 1900cc v-twin that's the predecessor to your bike. Who puts a tiny 4.7 gallon tank with that big a motor? Oh well ... lots of rest stops. Keep on riding!

I have the same bike (year & color). They are fantastic motorcycles. I can't understand why they haven't sold very well. People don't know what they're missing. By the way, it would take me 10 years to get 60k miles, lol.

You are burning miles and its a good thing. Impressive !!!! I took one for a test ride, 2 years ago in an open house. Great bike, sounds great, comfortable, heavy, great price for so much bike, however the heat under my balls was too much of a turn off. With long, heavy pence, I felt it, at stop and go traffic. Also, poor on tech for a 2020 machine. From that dealer, I went to the Honda and took the new Goldwing DCT Tour and that was it for me. Yamaha needs to bring a machine like the GW. I owned the FJR and it was just a superb machine.

220 miles from a full tank is good for a bike that size. I have a 2007 Yamaha Royal Star tour deluxe and that's what I get riding 75 mph on average with the cruise control on.

I had to laugh as soon as the video came up. When I saw the imagery before I saw any writing I thought to myself that looks a lot like 80/90 in South Dakota. I'm working on good mileage myself, but south of your level of effort. Just under 50K in 3 years, looking for 100. The V Star 1300 Tourer is a great machine like yours. Exceptionally reliable manufacturer. I'll be buying another one when the time comes.

I find it funny how everyone is complaining about this bike, 195 lb man and 165 lb woman along with so much crap they "need" for the trip, and the bike is the problem ? that's just saying, the bike is garbage because it can't handle overweight humans that pack way to much junk, and know they should just be traveling in a car. There are people that complain about problems and do nothing, then there are people that solve problems without complaining. I want a cross country touring motorcycle with as many future proof bells and whistles I can get. This obviously comes with costs in weight with this motorcycle, yet is 10 to 20,000 plus dollars cheaper than the competitors. Cost to value and cost of maintenance, this bike has everyone beat and I mean everyone.

I currently own a 06 Honda GL1800 but I love V twins so I got an incredible deal on a 2006 Roadliner with Corbin bags and Fairing and seat for $3500!!! I bought it in Omaha and rode it back to Virginia. My brother picked a 2019 GL1800 and we rode together. I'm torn... I would like to buy a TC but I love the GL too... can't have both. The CarPay that Honda put on the new GL is a big plus for me. But I like big bikes... the TC is that... she is big.... I love that.... the new Gl is like my Goldwing and a CBR just had a baby... I'm a mess... I don't know which direction to go. One day I feel that is going to be the TC... but I see the numbers of the torque and HP of the GL and the fuel economy my brother was getting on the highway (48mpg) and I see the carplay and I want it.. then I seat on my Roadliner and I feel the beast of the 1900 and I want the TC. I don't think I can wrong with either bike...

How did you manage to get around in the snow on a motorcycle with ABS?? I had a BMW K 1200 LT. It had ABS. That must stand for “all breaking stops “. Because I had no brakes when I got on very slippery surfaces with that BMW. The computer sensed that the wheel was locking, and it stopped applying brake pressure. One time I crashed into a cyclone fence at the bottom of the hill because I had no breaks. I was actually dragging my feet trying to slow down. I sold that BMW for that reason and bought a Moto Guzzi norge.. those machines have a button, so I could turn off the ABS on the Norge when I was on gravel slopes, wet grass in a camping area, or if I got caught in the snow, and I would have conventional brakes so I could actually get around. so what was your experience with the ABS in snow.??? could the ABS be turned off? I am on my third Yamaha venture since 1986 right now in 2022. I had a gold wing GL 1800 before I bought my older 1300 venture that I have now. I was lucky enough to locate one with only 30 K on it in November 20 21 from the original owner that was not all junked up with chrome and loud pipes and Christmas tree lights.. The gold wing was perfect. Way too much power, not that it was uncontrollable power, it’s just that that power cost money in the form of gasoline. 33 mpg vs. 48mpg on my royal star venture.. yes, my Goldwing was perfect, just like my toaster. And to be honest, just as boring.. I tried to find the V twin Yamaha venture to take for a test ride since they came out. No dealers ever have them in stock around me when I am in the market for a fresh mount.. Good review. Thanks
@longhaulpaul
@longhaulpaul 2 года назад
ABS on this bike is much like it is on a car. It activates the brakes on and off at a high rate of speed, does not cause the bike to slide. It stops the bike as it should. If it didn't have ABS in the snow or ice, I would have to squeeze the brake on and off to actually stop, as just grabbing the brake in snow would cause an immediate wheel lock up and probably a crash.

wow. That’s 164 miles a day, 365 days a year… that’s over the road trucker mileage if you only were in the saddle, 200 days of the year, which is realistic. That’s 300 miles a day for a year. And when you travel, depending on the highways, even if you are hitting 90 miles, an hour at times, you’re only really able to average about 40 miles an hour, including stops and eating in bathroom breaks. that means you were rolling. Can you saddle between eight and nine hours a day average.. How many days were you actually in the saddle over that 60,000 mile year? i’m on my third Venture right now. When the 2018 Venture came out. I went to my local dealer and asked when he was going to get one in so I could test sit the seat.. he said you have to order it before he order it. Pre-order only. I kept checking in year after year, they never even had one on the floor waiting to be delivered to the new owner. I’ve never seen one on the highway we’re at bike gatherings… I got tired of waiting, And I was not going to do the mail order bride routine at that price. So I gave up waiting and bought a used Goldwing with only 13 K miles on it from the original owner .. I never had a Goldwing before, so I thought I would give them a try .. It was perfect but..I wasn’t crazy about it.. I sold it and went back to a Venture after two years of trying to fall in love with the goldwing .. it just didn’t look or sound or feel like a motorcycle, no matter how perfect it was.. I’m still waiting to get my first glimpse of a real in the flesh, the twin Yamaha Venture. Never saw one.

The Venture was a great long distance machine for me. My average day traveling over the last 12 years is 1000 miles every time I ride. These are all business miles not on vacation or sightseeing. My typical day of 1000 miles is done in 14-15 hours. I’ve logged 1/4 of a million miles since this video! I don’t have the Venture anymore, it was raffled off for the charity at 106,000 miles, but I do miss it at times, especially in the heavy snow.

What do u mean u have to “short shift”? And it is air cooled, but I thought u never want air cooled and liquid cooled is better. What are your thoughts on that? Why did Yamaha do air cooled if it’s got such a bad rep?
@longhaulpaul
@longhaulpaul 2 года назад
Big torquey v twins do not need to rev to make power. All the power is at low RPM's. Riders tend to rev the bike way past its power band and create heat. By short shifting, or shifting earlier that you think, you stay in the power and and do not create heat. Porsches Ducatis and Harleys were air cooled motors for a century. The only reason HD went to a water cooled head recently was to pass new emission standards. By making a low rev motor air cooled you save a ton of weight and complexity. A water cooled engine in this motorcycle would've put it well over 1000 pounds probably around 1100 pounds and the motor center of gravity would've been a lot higher. If you make the engine properly, an air cooled engine will last forever.

It is the only fully Dressed bike I have ridden that did not feel top heavy, And was very nimble, with handling and steering. So why did I buy a 2019 Harley Road glide special, Well Because I could put a Chopped tour pack on it (Sportier look) and because the side bags looked bigger. I would still love to have one though.

Hi paul. I'm having a mental breakdown and I want to see if you could guide me. Talking to motorcycle owners can be great but also it means they can have a bias opinion towards a bike. I own a Gl1800 and I like big bikes. My brother bought a 2019 GL1800 and he can't stop praising the bike. Being a GL owner I felt really tempted because is a really well rounded motorcycle, but my heart was with the new SVTC. I ended buying a left over 2018 GL1800 and I rode it from Iowa city to Newport News VA (1060 miles total). That was last week. It has been officially the worst trip of my life. Seat is horrible, my feet were ice cold, the riding position was very uncomfortable (for me) and overall it was awful. I got home "almost" in tears from the pain (I have a neck/upper back injury from being re-ended on a motorcycle). During this summer I bought a 2006 Roadliner from Nebraska with a Corbin fairing and a Corbin seat. I rode a total of 1700 miles on that trip, and even though my back didn't like it much, it was not even close to the pain the new GL1800 put me through. My brother "begs me " not to sell it … he says the comfort issues can be solved and the lack of wind protection is more beneficial for hot weather riding, which is when most people ride their bikes. Is there anyway I could speak personally with you? I really need to make a decision if I keep my GL and try to make it comfortable or go for the TC, which in paper is a less sophisticated bike (no electronic suspension, only 2 riding modes, no lean abs, no carplay, etc etc)/…. please your help is much need it. I test rode one SVTC and I was very torn about it. thanks
@longhaulpaul
@longhaulpaul 4 года назад
Jhonathan Rivera I think they are two very different bikes in almost every way. The wing is a sport tourer, upright seating position with legs and feet in line with your butt. It has a buttery smooth Accord engine and shaft drive. It has less wind protection and much less storage and fuel capacity than the Yamaha. The SV is a full boat luxury cruiser with a laid back feet forward seating position, big honking V Twin with grunt and sound. Both have Audio systems, heated bits and are decent long distance tourers without much need for added amenities. Im happy with the Venture, having put over 80,000 miles on it in completely stock form. 20 hour days, 1600 miles at a whack are no issue for me on this bike. I've also done 1600 miles in a day on a Russian Ural and a single cylinder dirt bike, so..... Any bike can be fitted to an individual, I have often added custom seats, bar backs, extra fuel, better wind protection, etc., to make a bike fit me and my riding style.
@biofractal78
@biofractal78 4 года назад
Hi Paul.. Thanks for your reply. I have the wing for sale. I really like better the SV. They should not be on the same price range in my humble opinion, because it lacks electronic features, fit and finish in which the Wing is superior. I would probably end up selling it (hopefully soon) and keep riding my 06 Wing until the SV come down on price. Thanks again.

Jeff Tilghman when two up riding I usually get 300 per tank before reserve. 200 is at 80 mph. A mix of backroads and freeway would be about 250. 40 miles in reserve, so most are getting 250 before reserve. I spend most of my time on the freeway at high speed.

@@longhaulpaul I know the editing can take a lot of time. You must get frustrated sometimes looking for a moment during the ride. And it's not where, time wise you thought it was.

"I havent had any problems with the bike whatsoever..." This alone makes the bike a better buy than Harley. I would consider this bike but am worried it doesnt have enough HP.
@longhaulpaul
@longhaulpaul 3 года назад
Take it for a ride. It will smoke the rear tire all day and cruise at 100 like butter. Globs of torque. HP doesn't really matter in a big Vtwin touring bike. 134lbs of torque. The power is all at 2000-3000 rpm.

@@longhaulpaul If you are doing highway speeds at 80+mph then horsepower matters. This comes up on a simple Google search for the Yamaha: "about 90 HP and 126 lb-ft of torque" My VMax puts out about 125 pounds of torque, but its almost 300 pounds lighter. My 2008 Goldwing put out about 115hp and I could easily do 120+mph.

Bridgestone’s. Stock tires. 10,000 miles out of the rear.

Thinking about adding the lower vents to help alleviate some of the heat. Do they help with that? Fine on interstate but slower riding I would like some more air flow down low.

So, you averaged riding your motorcycle 3-4 hours every day for a year? Where are you going?

Chance1957 All of my miles are dedicated to my MS journey. Some years are 60,000, some are 80,000. I’m only riding to events where I am raising money or speaking to other patients. Sometimes my bike sits for weeks, other times I’m riding 6,000 miles in 5 days.

@@vicryderkc1638 It's just cooler to ride, maybe the way the air goes through the engine but it's very comfortable. My Goldwing is a 1985 (disclosure, haha) that might make a difference??

@@vicryderkc1638 I had an 89 GL1500 and a 2007 GL1800 and a 2015 K1600 GTL Exclusive and I now have the Star Venture TC. It runs cooler than those water cooled bikes. Just tooling around, it is a very low-stress engine, and that results in less heat. I should add I get around 300 miles per tank, in "tour" mode all the time.
