A barrage of fury and disdain that no bullshit religion, psychiatrist, or medication can ever bring to an end. The only way for it to stop is for me to die.

I have a 22 yr old grandson that's schizophrenic and it's hard for me to deal with alone, but I do. I've been taking care of him since birth, he graduated high school with honors. The day after he graduated he stopped taking his meds, and that was in 2018. He stated a month ago that he needed to be back in his meds, went to his doctor, took the 30 day supply and didn't want to go for his check up. Right now, I'm so tired and being 60 yrs young all this is taking a toll on me. He stays in his room , sleep all day, up all night, and don't trust anyone but me. Grandpa and uncle don't have anything to do with him or try to help, but what they don't realize is that they're mental to and don't know it. Once I gain my strength back ( cause I'm drained 😭😭), I will get back on course and remind him that it was decision, get back on his meds , and man up. I feel better putting this out there cause I don't have anyone to talk to about this situation or to give me a helping hand. I Pray that everyone stay, stick together, help each other, and handle you business. Stay Blessed and Safe 😇.
I will put you and your grandson on my prayer list. Try to remind of his great accomplishments and how he felt when he achieved those things. Call on God! I pray he brings you the help you need!! If it’s possible get his parents involved.
@@merindaarvie28 my son is the father but died of cancer when my grandson was 6 wks old. The biological mother didn't want him so I took him in. I rather worry with him than worry about him. Stay blessed and safe 🙏.
We need more African American doctors and mental health professionals. Mental health was almost normal in my family. My sister, mother and brother were and are mentally ill. Can you imagine wondering my entire life why not me. I don't have mental illness, but I do talk with doctors and counselor often. The pain of seeing my family suffer and as a child not knowing what to do for them. My youngest brother is not diagnosed but is mentally ill. I pray for him and in the past sought help but he refused it.
I went to several and they didn't work. Other men have said the same. They've made themselves loud and clear, no one gives a single fuck about the mental OR physical health of black males. It's easy for people to say they do online, but the actions offline continue to prove their lies.
Love you guys. Focus on your passion. If you game 🎮 join a like-minded group. If you do music or anything other hobby try to find people in that niche. Relating overcomes a bunch of stuff in our lives.

@Sex'' Allatus Angelus your body will eventually put itself to sleep. I stayed up 4 days straight once and actually began hallucinating. I sat on my back porch and fell unconscious. I woke up 12 hours later covered in blood and huge slashes across my stomach, chest, and inner thighs. To this day I have no idea how it happened.

the lack of replies says what I've been telling people for the longest: No one cares about us. And by us, I mean the black men that are shunned and driven to suicide (the black men that don't fit desirable aesthetics). No amount of therapy will ever fix that.

As a dark skinned person I understand fully. Find your passion and focus on that. Trust me. When you do that love finds YOU. You should also try joining a like-minded group activity. It sounds weird but it works.

I know this is killing you all! I’m so sorry for your loss! That could’ve been me! I was diagnosed at the same age but got help through my Mom being a Nurse & recognized it & got me help. IShe took meds as well so she knew the signs.
Not all therapists want to help. Some are in it for the paycheck. People need to focus on their passions and like-minded groups. If you like cars join a car club. Friendship and relating life experiences is true therapy. Big love 💕

In my community in South Africa there is much shame and suspicion towards mental health issues. Such people are mocked or ridiculed and told to snap out of it! We have a very long way to go before realising how urgent the need to address this is!
I speak in the behalf amongst my black brothers, ALL WE ASK FOR is basic job security. I don't ask for much at all. All I need is Physiological needs and Safety needs. If every black men had a 45k secured job, black men suicides will decline by 95%. The only thing that keeps me going in life is my 45k salary secure job. Without that, I will end my life too. Real talk!
She just explained why African Americans because of generations of negative experiences with health services are less likely to actively go out and find professional help. She did not state that slavery was the cause for depression or suicidal behaviour.
you missed her entire point because you have selective listening, based on your response, when you heard slavery, you tuned out. She simply stated that AA people have taken on trauma from generation to generation starting from slavery. I would suggest you take a cultural competency course on AfricanAmerican and “maybe” you will have a better understanding of our plight because what you just said was very insensitive!!
