At the back end of July I grabbed a weekend away with angling pal, Jamie Lord fishing for barbel and anything else that swims at South Muskham Fisheries A1 Pits length of the River Trent. On arrival, our preferred early pegs were all occupied however as luck would have it another Yorkshire man was packing up and we managed to get two pegs next to each other on the end of the non navigable river just where the Newark Dyke rejoins it at Crankley Point.
These trips are as much about the social aspect of fishing and a chance to unwind from competitive angling as they are about catching fish. Of course it's always nice to hook up into a potential specimen or two, be that a barbel, bream, perch, chub, roach or dace. Of course there's always a chance of a big pike or zander and some even bigger surprises lurking in the river Trent with catfish and Sturgeon also residing within its depths.
