The fact that he states “them man” he is directly targeting a group of people which are unknown at this moment of time, but again, more notably it shows how high his status is compared to others, the word “bums” literally means a human but, but metaphorically he uses this to suggest that a particular group of people are perhaps measured, and that the status of A1 is unobtainable as he is directly calling people bums which accentuates he is on a higher level than most, this links to the Victorian era, to where there is hierarchy, in this case A1 implies that he is upper class. And looking down at these so called “bums”, as readers we sympathise with the lower level people, as they do not have financial support to break them out of the poverty cycle, but despite this, A1 may have been through this cycle and so he is possibly trying to motivate others into persevering and give them almost a sense of encouragement to lead them through the hardships. -> that’s what I call an 8/8 language paper 1 question 2 example response by ME.
