The way to land in crosswind is to get the main gear on the centreline and the nose gear upwind. It’s quite conceivable, in strong winds, for the nose to be right in the edge of the runway. Landing downwind of the centreline is poor skills.

I would be more worried about the flexing 777 as it looked like it landed just on the runway and way before it should have.

There’s an accelerator and can be found on the mpc in the fms called g meter. There’s chart g meter vs. Landing weight to determine maintenance action should be performed or not.

Smart phones have an accelerometer built in as standard - it's a little microchip that costs a few tens of cents, and it measures acceleration/deceleration "forces" that the phone experiences. (acceleration isn't a force, but multiplied by the phone's mass the result is a force). I'm not suggesting planes have a smart phone built in to get data on landing loads - the smart phone bit is just to highlight how ubiquitous accelerometers are and how cheap and easy they are to incorporate. Planes have accelerometers and load sensors throughout the airframe and especially the landing gear, which are continuously logging forces, stresses and flexing of critical components. Via load sensors built into the landing gear, the plane can 'weigh itself' and use the data to calculate take-off and landing parameters. I'd guess these sensors are also used as a cross-check when the plane is being fuelled - the weight before and after fuelling can be accurately measured and reconciled to what the fuel-tank probes read. Maintenance engineers and airline management will take a keen interest in monitoring and analysing these data, and I would speculate they cross-reference data on landing quality with the flight crew and local airport conditions at the time. I feel certain that if particular flight crew have a tendency to land planes heavily (in the absence of adverse weather conditions), that they will come under scrutiny and face appropriate consequences (such as being sent for additional training, or fired). After all, airliners typically cost upwards of $100million, and no airline is going to sit back and watch their assets be thrown around due to carelessness or a lack of skill.
