The unmistakable sound of an A4 chime whistle was heard around York again as Sir Nigel Gresley arrived from Kings Cross. It was a showery day and blowing cold, still a good day out seeing the A4 being turned. I had to try and keep my camera dry so not all the video I would of liked there Of course the sun came out afterwards. Back at the station there was a crowd on the platform, a popular locomotive.

York looks so barren without the 'centre road'...
@cedarcam
@cedarcam 7 месяцев назад
It does yes and the two freights we saw would of likely come through on them. Now the station is too busy and they are putting a new through line in but not through the middle.

Fantastic memories of my childhood..going to Kings Cross to meet my great aunt from Newcastle...and at the age of 10 catching the Flying Scotsman to go north..pulled by one of these magnificent beasts

So good to have memories like that. I just remember A4's in Kings Cross in what must of been their last year there. Never saw one in full flight. I have no idea what loco hauled our train from London when we moved house who knows maybe that was an A4

Thanks Dave These were beautifully designed locomotives. The streamline casing inspired by the Bugatti race car of the time. They were built for our fastest express trains from London to Scotland. The Flying Scotsman train which these hauled none stop all the way from Kings Cross to Edinburgh did the journey in not much less time than our modern trains of today, although they are not none stop anymore.

Thanks axl. It was a great atmosphere in the station. I enjoyed when we told the tourists 29:35 a steam train was due in and they got a treat seeing that. They had just asked if I could take a photo of them on their mobile. It was really crowded I did not expect so many would turn out to see her, shows what a popular locomotive she is

Sir Nigel looking and sounding magnificent on home territory. I haven't been on York station for many years now and have never filmed there - must see if I can wangle a cheap ticket somehow. Watching the turntable procedure, I can't help wondering whether Carlisle's triangle isn't easier.
@cedarcam
@cedarcam 7 месяцев назад
@@schoolshorts She really did Tim. I was thinking of This is York and the A4 under the big roof so wanted to see and hear how that looked in real. The atmosphere was great. Trackwise York has changed so much since you were there but the station will bring back nostalgic memories for sure. I hope you can get there to film one day and see for yourself what still exists from when you were there. The turntable always looks to be very hard work and with the big locomotives like this it has got stuck half way, Carlisle is certainly a lot easier. York lost its triangle years ago, they could make good use of one now.

1958 travelled from Newcastle Central to Kings Cross hauled by this magnificent beast. No idea what the engine was on the return journey, didn’t get a chance to run to the front of the train to find out.

Hola, cuando veo ésta locomotoras de talla mediana , quedo realmente admirado, ya que sus bielas transmisoras de movimiento se ven muy débiles y delgadas , pero es evidente que están hechas para máxima eficiencia, sorprendente, gracias.
@cedarcam
@cedarcam 7 месяцев назад
Gracias. Thank you Ian. Apart from getting cold and wet on the bridge it was a good day out and a great atmosphere in station. There was a bigger crowd than I expected, shows how popular this locomotive is, both her and the train were very well presented lots of shine a credit to the LS staff.

Thank you Denis. It was a challenge filming on the bridge this time with a couple of heavy showers and the cold wind but all round I am glad I went. LS did a splendid job on the whole train, stock matching the loco livery of the time and looking like new. I thought of going to Donaster but glad I didn't it was pouring down there as she passed.

I’ve always been a bit of a traditionalist, keeping to lined green for my layout, but I must say the blue colour is just a brilliant “fit!”

My favourite A4 is Union of South Africa. The paint was clean but not highly polished so she had the look of a well kept in service locomotive as I remember them. I was not sure about this livery but when I first saw her in Peterborough I thought the same as you. The whole train looked splendid in York. I model mid 70's blue grey but my A4 60009 does run a charter from time to time

Well done for this - especially the turntable shots. I was watching that on the ROC webcam - and it looked rather nasty weather!
@cedarcam
@cedarcam 7 месяцев назад
Thank you Julian. It certainly was nasty a couple of times up on the bridge What you do not get on ROC cam is how cold the wind blows on there too. I am glad I went though and got some of the turntable action, always a highlight for me seeing that, a few times they have had a job getting it to turn and getting the pins in to lock the table in place.
@JulianThurgood
@JulianThurgood 6 месяцев назад
@@cedarcam - Thanks for this. I would like to do that sometime, when the weather is good!
@cedarcam
@cedarcam 6 месяцев назад
@@JulianThurgood It's not too long a walk there as long as you are OK on steps, which are quite steep up onto the bridge, the ROC 2 cam is zoomed in a bit so it is not quite as close as it looks to the turntable but you can see OK, lastly the bridge is due to be replaced, I guess during the building work now going on. I hope they are not going to put one with sides so high you cannot see over, like they have at Carlisle.
