I resisted the impulse to go full frame - and am i glad - this new A6700 has all that i will every need and having watched your usual excellent video will be getting one - and selling my lovely hardly used old Nikon 7200 + lenses!! Since then I stuck with the a6300 because the newer Sony APSC cameras always were too small an upgrade to make it worth my while. This camera seems to have it all and would be a major upgrade to my a6300 in almost every respect. Will definitely be getting it and upgrading some of my lenses as well. I've been using my A6300 for quite some time, It has been my work horse and has allowed me to capture some of the best moments of my life. But after seeing Sony drop the A6700 last year I've always wanted to upgrade. And today, I did just that. I have to say the A6700 is a marvel of technology. It was well worth the two thousand dollars AUD (or dollarydo's) the color science is much improved and the IBIS is such a great to have for run and gun videography, especially when paired with a Sony OSS equipped lens, the two work in tandem perfectly and is really smooth. Overall pretty happy with it, it is going to take me into my first paid photo shoot, and the beginning of my photography business!

Also, 4k shooting cameras have been a thing since 2014, its rather sad to see you simp this much for a Corporation, 4k60 though, if my memory serves me right, it was Sony A7sIII and Fujifilm XT-3 that set those standards back in the day.

Went from a6400 to a7C because I wanted a fully articulating screen and the best dynamic range. The dynamic range improvements weren't as vast as I had hoped and I ended up missing all my small lenses, so I'm going back to APS-C with this camera now that it has a fully articulating screen and best-in-class AF. I'm glad I procrastinated in selling all my APS-C gear!

I just recently bought an A7C and it is within the allowed return period in amazon. Would you say this is a better camera for photography?… I also have a few prime FE lenses would they work well if I get this APS-C camera?.. The MSRP is $1,399 so its even cheaper than the A7C
@trogdor
@trogdor Год назад
The A7C shouldn’t be the benchmark for FF dynamic range. It rehouses the old A7III sensor. The newer generation sensors (everything since the A7SIII release, excluding the re-releases of the A7RIII/IV) are much better.
@rickbiessman6084
@rickbiessman6084 Год назад
@@trogdor "much better"? I’ve wondered about that. According to DXOmark measurements, the improvements in dynamic range since the A7III are so small that in my opinion they shouldn’t matter in practical applications. A third of a stop may sound like a lot, but will you actually notice? In my opinion, no. Unless maybe we’re talking about video - can’t really comment on that tbh.
@rickbiessman6084
@rickbiessman6084 Год назад
I’m in a similar place. I upgraded from an a6300 (which I still really like!) to an A7C for better low light performance. I’ve since discovered a host of genius features that I use all the time. But APS-C systems are still smaller. I did sell my APS-C lenses, and now I’m wondering whether the a6700 would have been the better camera for me. But then again, my reason for FF was low light and while the a6700 is probably one of the best low light APS-C cameras on the market, it still doesn’t reach FF levels. The video specs are fantastic, but currently I don’t need them because HLG happens to fit my bill really well. I think it really depends on one’s individual needs, but the a6700 seems to be a stellar camera in pretty much every department.

@@garretreed9709 May be. I have it but.. I don't know if I can recommend it. No stabilization, clunky menu, micro-usb / UHS-1 SD speed so a raw burst takes ages to write and so forth. I still love it, and it's my 2nd camera after the a5000 but I admit that I was a newb back then and youtube vloggers oversold the camera for what it is. My biggest remark - but this pertains to any Sony APS-C is the poor native lens lineup. Either mediocre or premium priced but beaten by Sigma and Tamron, which don't have lens stabilization. Just my two cents, because I wish I payed more attention to these things when making the decision. Whatever you buy if it's newer than say 2018-2019 you can't really go wrong, I'm mostly nitpicing here :) As a reference, started out as a street and landscape hobby, now I use it for events (mostly at night!), product photography and interior/architecture photography (the Laowa 9mm f2.8 is a fantastic lens for this)

Thanks Arthur, you have the best take on this camera of anyone on RU-vid. I'm thrilled for it and, as an a1 owner (along with a7c, a6400, zv-e10 and Canon EOS r8...yes, I use all of them,,.for specific things), I will be most definitely be picking this one up (probably have to sacrifice the Canon in order to make it happen, but just testing the waters with that one). I love that this appears to be the same body as the a7c with a much bigger grip. I'm hoping that the a7c II will be similar to this but full frame. I'm a photographer first and just getting my feet wet with videography so this seems like a perfect camera to add to my arsenal.

I've been using the A6600 (mostly for vlogging) for the past 2 years and the biggest disappointment has been the in-camera stabilization (lens E 2.8 G 16-55 G) contributed to by my shaky hands. (I did buy a gimbal but never use it). IF the stabilization is significantly improved on this then it is extremely tempting to upgrade from the A6600. Awesome review, thanks.
@ArthurR
@ArthurR Год назад
It’s improved, and it has active (electronic) stabilization. But it’s not like the 8-stop stabilization of the A7R5. That camera is incredibly stable. This 6700 is WAY better handheld than the 6600.

I have been waiting a long time to upgrade my a6400 and the a6700 sure looks like this is the one. I’m glad Sony waited until they developed more high end cameras where the technology could trickle down to this camera. If they had not waited this would have been a hoo hum upgrade of the a6600. Great job Sony. I like getting advanced technology cheap! I definitely will be getting the a6700 to complement my a7IV.

What surprised me is that high ISO performance is worse than the A6600 when compared side by side on DP Review's studio comparison charts. But the AI features, especially tracking focus in video, does seem pretty cool! Not quite useful to me as a professional photographer, but still seems fun to play with.

I’m definitely grabbing this! I’m not even going to pretend that this is a lightweight in the camera world! This is a killer crop censor heavy weight champion! I do believe it has real pro features but honestly any camera can be used professionally! I’ve used my a6300 side by side with my a7iv and NOBODY noticed the differences in pictures. This would be killer for a pro rig on a budget! Now use the extra money to get some more expensive glass!

An update - I now own the A6700 and forget the negative reviews! The EVF is fine, the screen is more than fine, in fact with the touch functions it is actually magnificent. The image quality is superb and the AF is out of this world. I cannot make it miss focus on anything! It even picked up someone riding a motorbike wearing a helmet! I come from an A6400 and would consider this camera a MASSIVE upgrade. Ergonomically it feels like a proper camera you can hold with a proper grip. It's the camera I have been waiting for. There are so many other fine tweaks they have made which are too numerous for a comments column, but at the price it is definitely worth the upgrade!

@@DDHDTV I think so - not just the fact the AF is nailed every time, but there seems a certain higher level of clarity to my eye - I am converting the RAW to DNG first as there's no Adobe support yet, so there may be a slight increase to come. People are obsessed with megapixels, but the sensor is newer, it's an upgrade on the A6400 even if the resolution isn't much different

Hey Arthur, I like your videos and thanks for adding in some of your personal humour as well. I am an amateur at all this. I own and love the A6000 that I have been using for years now and looking at purchasing an upgraded camera. I am thrilled about the A6700 but a little let down as I had hopped they would have included a built in flash. I know it is not the best option for a flash in all cases but it sure comes in handy when you suddenly find you need some fill light and sometimes I just don't want to walk around with the extra weight of the external flash around my neck. Thanks for your reviews they are very helpful. Vince
