2013 Kia Optima There are kits for different years. There is supposed to be one for up to 2012 and then it changes for 2013 and up. Mine still had the 2012 parts in it. Clutches and seals are different. The 3-5-Rev were .091 and the axle seals are larger, the 2013 kit has .083 clutches and the seals are smaller.

I doubt I'll work on one of these but it was well worth watching, if for no other reason than for your classic 'Some of these engineers...ya know...they're just really special. They're special kind of people'. LOL. Classic deadpan delivery, very curmudgeon-y.

Nice video, I had a question. I installed a engine, in my 2.4L Kia optima never touched the transmission. 101k on transmission. After install I drove the car for 75 miles with ZERO problems. I stopped at a light and the car did not move as if it was in neutral. I pulled over and noticed the 4 ground wires behind the ECU were loose, Is there a fuse or did I burnout something, I have no transmission fluid pressure. Car will not shift into any gear?

Does have a fuse, however even if it was bad it should still move. Would just take off in a higher gear. Sounds like you have bigger problems. What does the fluid smell like? Burned?

Hello, I was just replacing the oil filter inside my transmission and I noticed a pin measuring 25.69x2.98mm on the table. I am not sure where it goes would you be able to assist?

Sounds like the linkage pin. Look at 1:04:17 mark in the video. I am measuring it and putting it in.

Transtar. Link is in the description. For the lube, only colors available now are Dr. Tranny red, blue and green. Gold is no longer available.

I believe I have this same transmission in my daughters 14 Elantra may be a A6GF1 it started banging into drive a bit of a rougher idle about a week ago I noticed that if the car is cold after being parked all night the bump is really soft and as it warms up it gets worse after getting good and warm it doesn’t want to go in first gear any more do you think it may be in the clutches possibly the under drive clutch

I am still confused. I have been looking in the engine compartment of a few Kia Optima's and the high pressure or OUT from the transmission is feeding into the bottom radiator port and the upper port of the radiator is feeding the return into the transmission. Why would Kia engineers do this? This OUT line from the transmission should be the hotter fluid coming from flowing throughout the trans and I and others think the hot fluid should enter the upper port of the radiator and flow down. Is there an air entrapment concern that would mean for the hotter and higher pressure line be connected to the lower port of the radiator? The local Kia dealer is no help.

Is this the same model of transmission thats in the 2002-05 sonata?? If not then what is the type that's installed in 2002-05 sonata???

There can be 3 different transmissions in there. F4A42, A4AF3 or a CVT.

Question: On the A6MF2, there are two transmission lines that go to the radiator. One, from the rearward port goes to the lower part of the radiator and one, from the frontward port goes to the upper part of the radiator. Which line has flow out of the transmission and which line flows into the transmission?

Top line on the transmission is out , bottom is return.

@@CurmudgeonTransmission Thanks! Now I have assurance of where to watch for old fluid when I perform a quart-at-a-time flush to remove fluid from the torque converter and other un-drainable areas. I could do a test but thought I'd ask, so thank you very much. I like the normal operating pressure flush as compared to a machine pressured flush.

@@CurmudgeonTransmission I am suspicious that the flow lines got mixed up on my 2014 Optima. You are certainly correct on the top line of the A6MF2 as being out but the body shop connected it to the bottom port on the radiator and the top port returns fluid to the transmission body. This seems upside down to me since the OUT from trans should be hot fluid and that should go into the top port of the radiator (trans cooling) like the water coolant, right?

@@CurmudgeonTransmission You do reply speedily and I thank you for that. My 2014 Kia Optima, A6MF2 filter and cooling questions. 1. Are there inline filters that can be installed? Like a gas line filter and maybe see through? It would need to handle the temperatures and pressure. Just curious. Might be a little risky. I am debating installing a separate line cooler that may be more effective than the coolant radiator design from the factory. I will check the temps with the obd scanner of the fluid when I start driving it again. 2. Do you have any recommendations on this topic?

Hi about how many miles long do these last? I have a 2011 optima SX with 178k ive been having slipping issues could it be worn out?

I have seen them fail with as low as 20k. Have owned several vehicles with them in it but have gotten rid of them before they failed. All had around 130k when I sold them. How long a transmission will last depends on a bunch of factors, some of it is just luck. Yes, I would say it is time for a rebuild.

2013 Veloster Turbo with 93k miles, has this transmission, just rebuilt the engine 500 miles ago, did a wide open throttle pull on it through 2-3, when I let off the throttle it will no longer go into any gear! I just bought the car so I have no idea of the history but previously it was driving fantastic. Fluid looks good, it was fresh with the engine install. The fluid that came out was slightly dark but not horrible. Any ideas? Thanks!

I should add that I mean the fluid I drained out of the transmission prior to engine install looked good but I used fresh fluid on the install.

I would put a pressure gauge on the Low/Reverse tap and see if there is any pressure. If not, could be a broken pump. It is on the top of the case. Pretty much in the center of it.

@@CurmudgeonTransmission Hey buddy just wanted to give a reply, I missed your previous reply! The pump was absolutely damaged, turns out the flex plate was installed backwards. 🤦 Found a 35k mile transmission for $200 and I'm back at it!

Yes. No I do not soak my clutches. If you feel the need then by all means do it.

You fill it until the fluid comes out of the level plug when the transmission fluid is between 120-140 degrees Fahrenheit. That amount is going to vary. Completely dry, somwhere around 7.5 qts. +/-.

Transjel and Dr. Tranny, they both make the same colors. Gold, red, blue and green. I use gold for lip seals and lube, green for holding things in place, like bearings and check balls.
