AA vs AS: What’s the difference?
Are you thinking about pursuing an associate degree, but feeling unsure about whether an Associate of Arts (AA) or an Associate of Science (AS) degree is the right choice for you?

Here are the basics of AA and AS degrees:
💡 Both require 60 credit hours and usually take two years to complete. But, the courses you'll take are totally different!
💡 If you're into liberal arts and humanities, like literature, history, philosophy, or art, an AA degree might be your jam. They're great if you want to transfer to a four-year institution for a similar bachelor's degree.
💡 If you're more into science, tech, engineering, or math (STEM) fields, then an AS degree might be perfect for you. You'll get to study math, biology, chemistry, and physics to get ready for that career.
💡 Plus, the courses you'll take for each degree are different too! AA students might take classes in literature, music, or history, while AS students might take classes in calculus, biology, or physics.

Hi.. Is associate degree is same as the secondary education like 11th or 12th?

Hi there! The AS/AA programs are just a step below the BS/BA programs, so they are not equivalent to 11th or 12th grade, they are still collegiate level education.

As long as you have your high school diploma or GED, you can enter the bachelor's degree program. Once you have your bachelor's degree, you can go for that Master's program!

From my understanding associate of science degrees can focus on arts degrees as well. For example, a college may offer an associates of ARTS digital design program, and simultaneously an associate of SCIENCE digital design program. Think of art as focusing on more of the beauty and history… the reviewing of styles and thought patterns, languages etc. while the sciences focuses on the function of those styles, and thought patterns. For example, design in an arts degree, you would be observing famous designers, whereas the sciences (which may also be incorporated in the arts classes, however, in the program), relate to understanding color theory, the way the designs could be made, why they’re appealing, etc. like giving the art, or whatever, a function, is science. Art says look at the beauty of Z. Science says X+Y=Z.
