I've ran 100 rounds through a 14.7 FN upper and I was getting 2400ish FPS and groups between .75 - 1.25". I had no issues scoring repeat hits on a 10" plate at 500 yards.
@shadyp-zv3uf
@shadyp-zv3uf Год назад
seems wrong at first because usually with my 14.5 I get around 2,850 with M193 or around 2,750 with M855 depending, and then you see these numbers and your like... 2,450 tops??? but then you hear about the accuracy and the bucking of wind etc. and realize that you sacrifice some velocity for great accuracy and also the energy upon impact is there 💯 Also hearing you using your FN 14.7 and hitting 8" plates at 500 with these..... yeah if I had an ammo can full I would definitely NOT be against loading the mags up and zeroing in for this basically MK262 but half the price if even available

@@shadyp-zv3uf lower velocity should be expected with a 77 over a 55. it literally weights half as much more and has a better BC. Also a 55 grain is .243G1 vs 77grain 350G1 BC. At longer range, the 77 will carry more velocity than the 55. M855 is not accurate... shits like 2-3 Moa. At 500 yards the 55 grain bullet is around 1300fps, at 500 yards the 77 grain is around 1425. And 77's are generally, but not always more accurate. IMO 77>55!!!!

Edit: I've since tested this ammo again, and it's all over the place from one lot to another. I tested 6 different types of ammo today, inluding this AAC 77gr SMK, out of a 18" BA SPR barrel, 1:8 twist, gassed/tuned with a low-mass bolt carrier/buffer/spring setup, Riflespeed AGB, etc. Did 5-shot groups of each, four times each, in rotating order, for a total of 20 rounds of each time 6 different loads, so a total sample of 120 rounds. Relatively calm, 64 degrees. In order of most accurate to least accurate average of four 5-shot groups each: AAC 77gr SMK: 0.676" AAC 77gr Sierra TMK: 0.740" Hornady Frontier 75gr BTHP: 0.934" Hornady Black 75gr BTHP: 0.969" AAC Sabre 75gr Black Tip: 1.272" AAC 77gr OTM: 1.317" The sun was getting low and messing with my chrono, so I gave up on it after my first series of shots, but oddly the SMK, TMK, and 75gr Sabre Black Tips all came in right at the advertised 2700 fps. I guess PSA chronos these out of an 18" barrel? Whats more interesting is how consistent the SD was. What's the most disappointing is the most expensive loading in the group, the Hornady Black 75's... poorest groups, however YMMV for your barrel. If I negated one flier out of 20 of the more affordable Frontier 75gr BTHP's, those were very close to the TMK's in accuracy. I didnt have any Black Hills Mk262 Mod 1-C to try today, but from experience I think it would have matched or beaten the AAC 77gr SMK's... but the AAC is half the price, and that's an interesting conversation to have when we're talking about a 0.2" or less MOA difference. EDIT: I've settled in on SMK loads from IMI. Their "Razorcore" proves to be the most consistent, higher velocity than most heavies from others, accurate. Not as hot as Black Hills, but more than most. I recommend either over AAC.

I don't have any experience with the Sierra load, but as it is legal to hunt with .224 caliber centerfires in my state, I have done some hunting with the 75 gr Hornady OTM. When I got my Colt 6960, I was interested in deciding between a few different loads for home defense. As hunting licenses are cheaper than ballistics gel, I took a couple deer with three different load; the 5.56 loaded 75 gr Hornady OTM, and two different 62 gr loads, the 62 gr Barnes Vor Tex and the 62 gr Federal Fusion MSR. All deer were shot within 100 yards, typically about half that distance. No deer required more than one shot or went more than 60 yards after the shot. So all rounds worked fine when given enough velocity and proper shot placement. From a purely hunting standpoint, the Barnes TSX was the clear winner. It performed great and had good enough penetration that I even popped a nice doe through the onside shoulder in a quartering to shot. The Barnes was the only bullet tested that I would do this with. The 62 gr MSR had the best combination of linear penetration and tissue upset, and is what I went with for my home defense load. The 75 gr Hornady OTM performed fine, fragmenting reliably, but as with the SMKs in this test, seemed to veer off unpredictably. I couldn't deny the deer died quickly, so it was hard to call the bullet performance a failure, but it also was the least confidence inspiring. I think for standard infantry, police, or home defense work where most engagements are close, I would prefer a good bonded JSP, like the Fusion MSR, Gold Dot, or Federal FBI T3 Tactical Bonded. The Mk 262 or similar does seem to provide the best range for the 5.56, so it would be, and is, the obvious choice for DMR setups like the Mk 12.

PMC is the absolute worst 77gr ammo I've shot to date. Velocity put of an 18" barrel was 200-300fps below advertised velocity. I've killed hogs with 77gr ammo a few years ago. One hog I killed, probably weighed at least 80lbs, was hit behind the shoulder at a distance of 10 to 15 yards. Dropped like a rock. Haven't done any hunting lately, but for 5.56mm ammo, Magtech is my go to load. It preforms great and really close to advertised velocity. I would recommend buying them whenever you see then. @@carolinausedmachinery Enough to know that at close range or "home defense" distances aka "CQB" distances, 55 and 62 grain is good enough to drop someone or blow their brain out of the back of their skull and have it slide across the floor. Most carry what they are issued,which at the time was M855 green tips. If you are a DMR or Designated Marksmen, you could potentially have 77 grain OTM's. On the civilian side, 77 grain OTM's are EXPENSIVE. And again, at close range inside a home, 55 and 62 grain will work just fine but if i'm concerned about "over penetration" and hitting someone in another room unintentionally, i'll roll with some kind of soft point HD or hunting round that fragments upon impact. A big part of being in SOF is thinking for yourself. "Unconventional Warfare". If you can do the basic research and think for yourself, you should be able to figure it out on your own. This is a very accurate round. I get surprisingly repeatable results using it. And I'm getting the results I was looking for in a factory load ammo..... specifically out of a 13.9" build I'm fine tuning, but has ran flawlessly in my other builds as well and really brings the potential out of my 11.5"... Nothing is going to perform like a meticulously perfected hand load, but they took this stuff seriously when they set out to manufacture it for us. You can't beat it for the price IMHO. If you're looking for an affordable, accurate, repeatable factory load (especially in your shorty's).....this is for you. Nice Review Mike. Appreciate ya 👍
