Aachen Cathedral is one of the names I was familiar with but I have never really seen it in detail. Great commentary on the church and subtle use of that mic. I've now specified a gold sarcophagus in my will after seeing this.
Thanks! I had to do four takes of that early walking shot because people kept staring into my camera! The gold sarcophagus was pretty pimp, though I'd guess it cost a penny or two as well!
Gorgeous. I’m loving these stops on your world heritage journey. Facinating. For some reason I was always under the assumption that most of Germany’s ancient churches were destroyed in the war.
Thanks! A lot of stuff in Germany was destroyed, but famous cathedrals like this were usually not targeted (though this doesn't mean they weren't hit!). What I really notice though, is that every apartment building in Germany looks the same - all from the 1950s!

I was in the Aachen Cathedral a little over a year ago and was so impressed by it too. The design and detailing is amazing. Really great overview of the Cathedral Joel! I learned more about it than when I had visited, lol.

An octagonal dome is quite unique. I wonder if there is a symbolic meaning behind it. It is always so interesting to see how the various centuries left their mark in the Cathedrals of Europe.
number 8 was a holy number in the bible and even the concept of the cathedral is 2 square and circle has a meaning its really interesting you could search about it
Very professional and informative tour of this fascinating building. Having recently read Ken Follet's epic novel about the early cathedral builders 'Pillars of the Earth', I can appreciate the unique format of this cathedral. I have to wonder how this great height was achieved with such narrow buttresses - the flying buttress was devised after the building of Aachen - which makes it even more impressive!

You are always at the most beautiful places. I really wish I could see how things really where during those times. Would be interesting to take a peak back. That replica was gorgeous. The cathedral looked so intricate.
