Karam is a major festival of Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh. Mainly this festival is celebrated on the day of Ekadashi of Bhado (approximately September) month and in some places around it. On this occasion, people worship nature and pray for a good harvest, as well as sisters pray for the safety of their brothers. On Karam, the people of Jharkhand sing and dance on the beats of the dhol and the temple.
A special dance is performed in Karam festival which is called Karam dance. This festival is celebrated on the Ekadashi of the Hindu calendar, the month of Bhadon, with great fervor in the country and abroad including Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh. On this occasion, after fasting, devotees plant the Karam tree or its branch in the courtyard of the house and on the second day its consumption starts only after giving Navanna (new food) to the deity. Karam dance is celebrated by dancing and singing in the joy of the arrival of a new crop.
Karam dance is also synonymous with the folk culture of Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. The tribals and non-tribals of Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand all consider it to be a folk Manglik dance. Karam Puja dance is particularly prevalent in remote villages between the Satpura and Vindhya mountain ranges. The Gonds and Baiga of Shahdol, Mandla and the Korku and Pardhan castes of Balaghat and Seoni dance on the basis of many forms of Karam. Baiga Karma, Gond Karam and Bhuiyan Karma etc. are considered to be indigenous dances. In the folk dance of Chhattisgarh, the incarnation of 'Karamseni Devi' is believed to have happened in the house of Gond, in another song it is believed to have happened in the house of Ghasia.
This day is for them to worship nature. In such a situation, all of them are filled with joy. According to tradition, the crops sown in the fields should not be wasted, so nature is worshipped. On this occasion, a vessel filled with sand is decorated in a very artistic way. A few days before the start of the festival, jowls are put in it, it is called 'Java'. Sisters keep a fast on this day for the well being of their brothers. His brothers take the branches of the 'Karam' tree and bury it in the courtyard or fields of the house. They worship it as an adorable god of nature. After the worship is over, they immerse this branch in a pond, puddle, river etc. with full religious rituals.
Fasting
Those who accept Karam's request, keep fast for the whole day and invite their relatives and neighbors, and in the evening worship the Karam tree, with a single blow of the ax, the branch of the Karma tree is cut and it falls on the ground. is not given. After that, after burying that branch in the Akhara, the men and women celebrate the festival by dancing throughout the night and in the morning it is immersed in a nearby river.
