Lyrics -
[Intro: Timbaland]
Ah, ah, I'm tired of arguin', girl
I'm tired, I'm tired, I'm tired
Huh, I'm tired of arguin', girl
Huh, I'm tired, I'm tired, I'm tired
Huh, I'm tired of arguin', girl
Freaky-freaky-freaky-freaky, baby girl, huh
[Verse 1: Aaliyah]
Did you sleep on the wrong side, I'm catching a bad vibe
And it's contagious, what's the latest?
Speak your heart, don't bite your tongue
Don't get it twisted (Yeah), don't misuse it
What's your problem, let's resolve it
We can solve it, what's the causes?
It's official, you got issues
I got issues (Um, well you got issues), but I know I miss you
[Chorus: Aaliyah]
(Am I supposed to change, are you supposed to change?)
Yeah, who should be hurt, who should be blamed?
(Am I supposed to change, are you supposed to change?)
Who should be hurt, who should be ashamed?
(Am I supposed to change, are you supposed to change?)
Who should be hurt, will we remain? Oh, I
We need a resolution, we need a resolution
We need a resolution, we have so much confusion
[Verse 2: Aaliyah]
I wanna know, where were you last night?
I fell asleep on the couch, I thought we were going out
I wanna know, were your fingers broke?
If you had let me know I wouldn't have put on my clothes
(I wanna know) Where'd you go instead?
It was four in the morning when you crept back in the bed
I wanna know, what was in your head?
Or what was in my head, am I supposed to change?
[Chorus: Aaliyah]
(Am I supposed to change, are you supposed to change?)
Oh, who should be hurt, who should be blamed?
(Am I supposed to change, are you supposed to change?)
Who should be hurt, who should be ashamed?
(Am I supposed to change, are you supposed to change?)
Oh, who should be hurt and will we remain?
We need a resolution, we need a resolution
We need a resolution, we have so much confusion
(Am I supposed to change, are you supposed to change?)
Who should be hurt and who should be blamed?
(Am I supposed to change, are you supposed to change?)
Who should be hurt, who should be ashamed?
(Am I supposed to change, are you supposed to change?)
Who should be hurt, will we remain?
We need a resolution, we need a resolution
We need a resolution, we have so much confusion
[Post-Chorus: Aaliyah & Timbaland]
Baby, let me know, you'll let me know (I will)
You'll let me know, you'll let me know (I will)
You'll let me know, you'll let me know (I will)
You'll let me know, you'll let me know
[Verse 3: Timbaland]
Girl, holla
You give me bits and pieces
You tryna blame me when I don't even know the reason
I think it's just the season
Maybe the month, maybe you're bleeding
Now tell me what's the reason?
Snoop video? Looks are deceiving
So, cut the crying, cut the coughing, cut the wheezing, girl
Quit the blaming, cut the naming, cut the sneaking, girl
I think you need some prayer, better call a deacon, girl
So get your act right or else we won't be speaking, girl
So what's it gonna be?
Freaky-freaky, me and you?
Or is it gonna be, who blames who?
I'm tired of these things, I'm tired of these scars
I think I'm gonna get me a drink, I'll call you tomorrow, ooh

Wasn’t Mariah’s career deemed Over during this time due to her psychotic mental breakdown and failure of a movie glitter with its failure soundtrack. Wasn’t she such a mental case she bombarded TRL and did a strip tease in front of children/minors. Mariah wasn’t even as popular anymore during this. JLo was even bigger then Mariah during this time. Selena was relegated to a niche genre & demographic - Tejano. She was slowly breaking into pop. But Aaliyah already WAS pop & was about to have an A list movie career, and was known in the mainstream-heavily played on MTV, BET, VH1, etc.. No comparison to each other whatsoever-looks, style, musically, etc. other than them passing prematurely. Selena is more comparable and 1000x more musically talented) to J.Lo. There would absolutely be no J.Lo had Selena lived. Had Aaliyah even lived a few years longer- she would’ve stomped out J.Lo’s music career in the mid-2000’s lol…as she already had her “Nuyorican” demographic on lock.

Big Faccs: on some real shit-big promotion machines and gimmickry aside-Tinashe is the only one of this caliber, this is not a game for her and she has BEEN The Truth, more people (me included) are starting to realize that: from her mixtapes to 333 Deluxe-most of these other girls are not even in the conversation, if we’re talking those for whom music is their life and just have that whole other level of dedication, in the US, legit can count only on one hand.

@@0Lu.Lu0 I agree that tinashe has the full package to have compared to aaliyah, but she really hasn’t branded herself. I love her, but her music is all over the place. Dark r&b, and then pop. I wish she would have really focused on a specific personality instead of just being an “it” girl. She doesn’t effortlessly move like she’s different, which is something aaliyah did very well. Tinashe is very “look at me!!!“ and it puts people off. I personally don’t like 333. I loved anything nightride and mixtape days. It felt more like the music was more curated to fit together. Songs for you was good too tho.

This song, both lyrically and vocally, is SO insanely underrated/underappreciated. Lyrically, this song talks about a relationship that is in this weird limbo. Like, it’s about to fall apart and the singer doesn’t know if it’s their fault or their partner’s or what, ya know? So they’re like, “we need to fix this. We need to fix us”. So she’s asking, “well, who needs to change their ways? me or you?” And then lists things that are in need of changing. Then the other person (Tim), playing the partner, comes in and is like, “nah, I don’t need this rn. I’m going to the bar”. So there is no resolution. Nothing changes. That’s what’s cool about this song. And then add in these very subtle, deceptive vocals that are actually pretty hard and good skill-wise: the vocal fluttering, the way she holds notes in her head voice, how easily she glides between her head, chest, and full voice. It’s insane. And on top of that, the music makes it rather challenging to sing to (which Timb’s beats always did for R&B/Pop singers). But Aaliyah always met, and exceeded, the challenge. His beats were always easier and made more for rappers. But Aaliyah was like “bet” and did the damn thing. Not to mention the cool sci-fi violin(?) sample they put, which they sampled from John Ottoman’s “Tricks of the trade” from the Incognito soundtrack (the sample is pulled from 1:27 in the original song, but used throughout here)
