This program aired from July 2001 to 2008. It was produced in the I.T. Productions Studios and hosted by Anand Atal.
About the Host
Anand Atal was born on March 28, 1939 in Lucknow, India, to Jagannath Prasad and Lakshmi Devi Atal. He was trained as a geologist, after graduating from the Dhanbad School of Mines in India.
He emigrated to North America in 1964. After working as a professional geologist in B.C., he felt a vocational calling to education. He became an inspirational high school science teacher in Burnaby, guiding and shaping young minds at Royal Oak Secondary, Burnaby North Secondary and Burnaby South Secondary for over 35 years. He received many recognitions for excellence in teaching and leadership, including the Marshall McLuhan distinguished teacher award from the Province of BC in 1987. Upon retirement, he fulfilled a long-held dream of providing educational and career guidance to a wider range of young people as an educational consultant.
Anand was a highly respected figure in the Indo-Canadian community and a well-known television and radio personality. His contributions to the media aimed to educate audiences on a wide range of topics, such as astronomy, earth science, physics, educational psychology, leadership and goal-setting for youth. He had an insatiable appetite for knowledge, equal only to his desire to know people and connect meaningfully with them.
After retirement, Anand’s curiosity about philosophy and spirituality grew. This curiosity culminated in a television show called Aaradhana, which means “worship” in Sanskrit. Aaradhana aired in Vancouver from 2001-2008. Anand researched and interviewed key experts and personalities on a vast range of topics relating to Hindu philosophy and spirituality, in English. Over 300 episodes were filmed. Each episode contains a series of thought-provoking questions and answers from a carefully curated roster of guests. The philosophical themes of Aaradhana are universal and transcend religion, as they are aimed at helping everyone unravel the meaning of life. Thanks to technology, the timeless insights from Aaradhana can now be shared with the next generation.
