People saying he needs to calm down, he is doing his his job! This woman was killed in her own home minding her business. He was wrong and he should be held accountable for his actions! Justice will prevail for this family.
Clearly this man murdered her. In his mind all he had to do was see something move and boom he's gonna shot. Like the pros said,he was gungho and ready to kill.
@205ken4 Think there's a ton of over exaggeration here. He wasn't all that animated & theatrical at all. Are we watching the same closing argument? Lol. The man did his job with a lot of passion involved. That's what the hell he's supposed to do.
He made my SOUL twitch when he said that. I had to play it back and you were the first comment I saw. My Spirit feels disturbed. Hell awaits this man despite the verdict. 🤷🏾♂️
"Looks like we have a weapon here" Did it for me, as far as self defense goes. The fact that he walked around & never attempted to give aid or comfort her shows me he couldn't care less. Her life held no value to him, whatsoever.
exactly .... to me it was crazy how he never entertained the thought that the occupants of the house were home since their cars were present any logical personal should have.... all he cared about wasn't the safety of the occupants it was just finding an non existent perpetrator... that tunnel vision is what caused his poor judgement and the eventual unnecessary death of Atatiana and the fact that he was more focused on her gun that he picked up (again poor judgement) instead of offering CPR or compression to try to slow down the bleeding until help arrived is telling to me.. now I know what the coroner said that nothing would have helped her because the bullet hit her heart, lungs and kidney but he wouldn't have known that at the scene and was taught to give aid in training.
The person that fires a gun should never, I repeat never aid the person they shot. The person that fired the gun is the worst person to render aid. That is a well known fact, and is actually trained at police academies. Cops have literally had panic attacks after firing their gun, so to say the cop should've rendered aid, is highly absurd.
If only he had announced his presence, this woman would still be alive. I hope there is justice. He gave no time after saying hands up or whatever he said. He shot immediately after yelling.
@@sallysantos524 he literally admitted he did bad police work! Why do you go above and beyond to protect police and ignore the innocent person that did absolutely what she has a right to do???
@@sallysantos524 What in the blue hell are you talking about? If he followed everything, well explain to me and others why are we here then? Why was he convicted for hi crime then? Why is he now serving 12 in a half years in prison since he did everything right? Thank goodness you’re not a law enforcement officer
Wholeheartedly agree. They are hiring people who have not been vetted psychologically, have no common sense and a low IQ. Officers should be required to have individual malpractice insurance just as healthcare and other occupations are required to have. The insurance companies will cover a specified number of claims and dollar amount of payout. If the company drops you, the cops loses their position. This alleviates the community from responsibility of judgment claims when law enforcement fails to act responsibly. Each officer must be held accountable for all their behaviors and attitudes on the job, not the ok occupants of the cities in which they live. It also identifies the chronic and habitually miss performing officers who have no business in the profession eventually saving a great many lives.
You hope it works? Is that the same relevance to the "I should of stayed home" comment. You should of made your own thread if you think it's ridiculous. Your the one given "theatrics"......Have a blessed day.
@@tiaratauaese6197 Get out of your feelings. My intent wasn't to be negative. I misspell words too, but if someone just so happens to mention it I thank them. If Jesus wasn't my Savior, my response to you wouldn't have been graceful. Stop being defensive.
Not an unpopular opinion. Every cop in America considers what happens if the victim lives. That cop that shot that kid in McDonald's parking lot is toast the moment they wheel that kid in front of a jury
“The defendant was making life ending decision and Atatiana had no idea” Yeah because she had no idea there was a police officer with a gun outside her house. She had no idea because he did not do what he was supposed to do
@@kimberlynroberts7059 She did get her point across. Atatiana DID NOT act unlawful in arming herself and "pointing" her weapon at an unknown subject in her dark and protected (by the large gate and fence) backyard. When someone shines a flashlight at you in a dark backyard through a window all you see is the light. Even if she adjusted her vision and got a glimpse of part of his uniform she still had no time at all to comply.
MSASIA: STOP - in THIS case, he did a good job. But prosecutors have placed A LOT of men in prison who ARE innocent. So, qualify your statement by saying, "IN THIS CASE, i love the prosecutor".
Officer gave himself a "B"and he's absolutely correct and it's for BS!!!!!!!!!!! He left off the "S" GOD BLESS THIS FAMILY R.I.H. ANGEL Sending my prayers and love to you Zion...he WILL have a very blessed life going forward, GOD will see to it🙏❤️🙏❤️
I live in North Texas and I couldn't imagine the jury not finding him guilty of at least manslaughter ... I don't believe he intended to kill anyone but his negligence caused her death.
this guy should have never been hired as an officer .. he disregarded every dept procedure he was taught while in training when he arrived at the house ...he decided that because the house was messy (he testified ransacked) there had to be a crime in progress but never called for back up and even though he saw the occupants cars were both present he assumed they weren't home (REALLY) when he choose to enter that back gate he never considered his partners safety or Atatiana's safety.... if this shooting wouldn't have happened I can guarantee you he would have eventually ended up getting someone else killed.
@Barbara: yes, in THIS case. Just as you have to assess teachers, preachers, cops on a case-by-case basis. Don't paint a broad brush bc that same prosecutor could argue against an innocent man just as fervently. Happens A LOT. Good job on this one tho.
I can’t believe his lawyers are trying to blame her for her own death and to say she was breaking the law pointing a gun at a window did it ever occur to him that she heard him but she might not even know who it was she saw a figure I’m sure when I heard someone run pass my window it was so dark I just saw a body running and I had no gun🤷♀️
@@grandmaida7819 firstly, it has not been proven that she pointed the gun "at" the window. I doubt she would just shoot without knowing who is at her backyard. She armed herself just to be safe. Just like any gun owner would do. The fact is that Dean would have Fired anyways had she not been armed. Keep in mind that cops always yell GUN, GUN, GUN every time they "see" a gun.
The fact that he never even considered the fact that the occupants were home and located somewhere in the back of the house since they obviously weren't seen from the front doors and side windows, even though their cars were there to me said a lot about him .... he was determined there was a perpetrator and that was all he cared about
I didn't see any of the prosecutors saying why did he give the command of hands up if he saw a weapon? The command would have been drop your weapon. They didn't question him on that either when he was on the stand.
@bobmurray: CAREFUL! He did a great job on THIS case, but realize prosecutors have also placed A LOT of innocent people in jail for LIFE, espec black men based on KARENs. And, they're finally being seen for who they really are, actors.
In her own home? Before the intruder even gets inside of the house? No. A REASONABLE person NOT EXPECTING an LED flashlight to be shinin’ through her property would grab protection and check it out because everyone knows the police response time is WEAK, and her and her nephew could be harmed by the time they’d arrive. There’s no justification.
she never had that gun raised because if so Dean would have let his partner know first thing ...so you shot her because you she scared you in her OWN HOUSE and you're to ashamed to admit you're a coward and was trigger happy. Bro why did you have your gun drawn on a wellness check up and if you wanna claim it was a burglary than why not tell the only person and your partner that you saw a gun? Than fake cry on stand you prolly would have shot the kid too had your partner not been present and concerned about him?
If he doesn't get found guilty I'm absolutely terrified. She was inside and he was outside. Its Texas, a lot of people have guns. If you're creeping on someones property without them knowing it is reasonable to believe your life may be in danger. Why wouldn't you knock?
I totally agree... he never called out GUN which is dept policy for officer safety if he did and never yelled out Police drop your weapon all he said was show me your hands
EXACTLY, that's why when he was questioned by his attorney, without being asked he said he didn't know if she was Black/White, Male/Female. SUCH A LIAR
I don't believe it was racially motivated... it was a dark room and there were mini blinds in the window so he wouldn't have been able to see skin color all he saw was a figure of someone bent over ... but he is guilty as sin because once he saw a figure I think he panicked and should have announced he was an officer but never gave her a chance before firing his gun.
he never offered any kind of aid even though he was taught that during training... the female officer reported the shot fired and called for assistance
GUILTY GUILTY GUILTY "Get your hands up, show me your hands" If she was actually pointing her gun with the laser on at him you would have seen it on his bodycam. That laser would have been bright as hell shinning through the window...
the light was on in the front of the house but I am not sure it was on in her room because the window didn't look like a light was on in the body cam footage ... it wasn't until his flashlight hit it ... I think she was momentarily blinded not having a clue who was in the yard and never saw the shot coming
He never saw a gun, let alone pointed at his punk-azz. After he murdered her and the cops got into the house, you could hear him breathe what he thought was a sigh of relief and said "we have a gun". All recorded.
I've always wondered why, if this was a welfare check as the neighbor had said when he called; why didn't the dispatcher simply call the home first, to verify if there was actually a problem in the house?
he isn't going to get away with it... I am positive that there will be no question of guilt just whether to convict of murder or manslaughter .... but if by chance the jury gets this totally wrong and he does get off ...your right the crap will hit the fan and every single woman in Texas will be pissed to learn that officer safety trumps a home owners right to protect themselves
THIS IS THE DEAL . “I placed him in handcuffs” “Why? “Safety” “What was the safety concern?” “He was resisting” “What was he resisting?” “Being placed in handcuffs” FBLG" FBL POLICE AFRAID AND SCARE THAT IS BEING A COWARD AND SHOULD JUST QUIT THE GANG
His brother was also cracking jokes with his parents during breaks. For a moment and being as it was Texas, was this due to race? A simple question, before the tirade of hate, right here. Simply a thought.
There’s not any evidence that was a factor. Some people will say that was the only reason it happened but that’s just their own prejudices unless they have some evidence ya know
I live 45 minutes from Funky Town and spent every weekend partying for about 8 yrs and I've never had any issues with anyone of any race! This situation is isolated, but "birds of a feather flock together", and "blood is thicker than water" supposedly so you wouldn't be far off! 🤷🏽♀️
@@205ken4 They never directly mentioned race. But, Ashley did mention "Preconceived Notions" due to it being on the "East Side" of town. So, she snuck that in.
I am not sure if the knew the race of occupants of the house or not but it may be fair to say that he may have assumed that there was a black perpetrator since it was a predominately black neighborhood. he didn't consider that the occupants of the house were home even though their cars were there which I don't get because I would have assumed they were home
@@MsJimmysgirl If not at home willingly at least at home as hostages if they thought the situation was criminal. They should have at least approach the situation with the safety of the home owners in mind.
and per dept policy he never yelled out GUN to alert the other officer .... or announced once he was seen POLICE DEPT... therefore he lied and never saw the gun until he got into the house and saw it laying next to Atatiana and came up with the self defense angle ... instead of admitting that he was scared and over reacted
That COP DECIDED that there's "suspicious things " going on... he was LOOKING TO MAKE THINGS INTO SOMETHING IT WASN'T!! Robbers making a pile of stuff to take with them, the cars in the driveway BELONGED THERE. Why didn't he think PEOPLE WERE HOME??? He didn't want to give up his position BUT HE PUT THE FLASHLIGHT IN THE WINDOW....
you got that right ... I think every woman in Texas would be outraged if the jury finds that officer safety is more important than a home owners rights
who calls the police for hearing a random noise that was a weak statement so I guess owning a gun and picking it up in YOUR OWN HOUSE means you will just be shot for having the gun in your hand 👌🏼
the neighbor across the street called the non emergency number for the police to report that both of the doors were open it was about 2 in the morning... Atatiana didn't call them.. she was playing video games with her nephew in her back bedroom and forgot she left the doors open after airing out smoke from burned hamburgers Zion was making... Atatiana heard the gate open and the flashlight and got her gun out of her purse but I will never believe that he saw the gun because how do you see the gun but not her hand... and if he genuinely saw it dept procedure is to yell out GUN to alert the other officers that someone in the house has a gun.. which he didn't and he never said PUT THE WEAPON DOWN he just said show me your hands and then immediately fired... no POLICE DEPT show me your hands
Was murdered instead of a knock at the door , hello sir/mam yes are you OK? oh yes sir may I help you , mam we got a call from a concerned neighbor your doors are open , oh my goodness I'd forgotten thank you thank you very much , we'll you're welcome mam be careful ok be sure to lock your doors for safety , you're right appreciate that thank you .
that is exactly what should have happened...but in his idiot mind because the house was messy (he testified ransacked) he assumed it was a burglary and said he never considered the occupants were home.... REALLY their cars were both there
Watching how this defendant testified , his weird movements, monotone voice, just calculated in every way. He just creeped me out with his whole demeanor. Total sociopath.
He wanted to kill somebody! He had his chance to murder someone everyone knows that area is predominantly black. He murdered her in cold blood and I pray it drives him crazy
The cop created this whole situation because of his thinking of something other than the facts! A young lady in her own home was killed because of this officer's negligence and what ever he imagined was going on in the house! At any time he could have announced his presence at the property but he didn't and because he didn't, Miss Jefferson was preparing to see a prowler, instead she saw death! 😩 She is dead because of his negligence, he's guilty! 😩😩😩
I am not pro- cop or anti-cop so I have no bias here. Earlier this year, I heard about the Kim Potter case where she accidentally shot and killed a perpetrator evading during a traffic stop in when she grabbed her gun instead of her taser as she intended in 04-2021 in Minnesota. You could immediately see and feel how distraught she was in the video which was a horrible accident and she was found guilty of manslaughter but this is a totally different case. Dean is a totally different kind of officer because he didn't seem to even consider the home owner at all. I do believe that when he arrived at the the he already had a preconceived notion. How he came to the conclusion the residents weren't home even though their cars were in the drive way and no other vehicles were present. Do most burglars walk to a house they intend to rob usually, I don't think so not if they want to steal any sizable electronics like TVs, computers or gaming systems. The way Dean's mind worked was incomprehensible. There was no noises, arguing or fighting, sounds of struggle or anything that would raise concern was coming from the house. He has no reason at all to believe a crime was in progress just because in his opinion the house was ransacked a huge exaggeration. I do agree that he arrived at the house with a preconceived notion and nothing he saw or heard was going to change his mind. He should have never been hired as a LEO. He showed no concern for the victim after he shot and fatally injured her not evening giving aid by CPR and compression that he was trained to do. He showed no concern for his partner by not informing her of a gun if he did genuinely see it. think I can honestly say listening to his testimony and the facts of the case that if he hasn't caused Miss Jefferson's death that night, he would have most certainly caused someone else's if not a citizen another officer working with him.
they are using the excuse that it was called in as an open structure since the two doors were open but they still had two options knock and announce or call for back up if a crime was in progress and he didn't follow the dept policy for either
@@MsJimmysgirl Its crazy. Houses have doors. Doors can be open or closed. An open door means nothing in and of itself. Maybe she wanted some fresh air. Its insane. Sometimes I have a door open at night with a screen door to let in some cool night air, its INSANE to think some well to do "concerned citizen" could make a call, I could not know wtf is happening, see flashlights outside, goto the window with a pistol in my hand and get killed by an idiot, then my mother and brother would somehow have to live with that. Then, most likely, the cop will get away with it. This guy will probably get away with it tbh.
Police should ALWAYS announce them- selves when knocking on doors or step- ping on private property. Police have effectively made them- selves the #1 public health hazard in the U.S.
Has any one proposed this officer saw his own reflection in the window when he said he was looking down “ the barrel of the gun” ??? He was not trained well enough or throughly vetted :( this is devestating for her family and for him- he f’ed up 100% :( that poor woman and Poor Zion :(
God thank you for your anointing on this man life I can tell Lord that you put him over that young lady case this man is truly sent by you he doesn’t care about a paycheck he care about people. A lot of people in this line of business need to take notes. # Justice Will Be Served On This young lady case as it should
Despite all of the multiple mistakes these officers made from the moment they arrived, particularly the defendant, this case will come down to one thing: Did Atatiana point the gun at the defendant and did he fear for his life. Forget that the officers were trespassing in her backyard, forget that she had a right to have a gun and a right to protect herself, forget that he didn't announce himself as a police officer or that he shot her 1.5 seconds after he gave a command. In my opinion, and I hope I'm wrong, but the verdict will either be not guilty or a hung jury.
I think they won't be able to agree whether to give murder or manslaughter ... there is no question he is guilty doesn't matter if she had a gun or not she was in her own home and had every right to protect herself... she never had a clue who was shining a flashlight in her face before he fired the gun which I don't believe he saw because he never called out GUN which is dept procedure for the other officers safety ...he could have put her in danger when entering the house if there had been a real perp with a gun
Note it was a none ER..call, the police could have knock on the door..but he didn't..he also parked the police car down the street..he never told the lady he was a police.. The police went to the window as if he was going to break in her house..
Looked and sounds like murder to me. Just because a guy puts a uniform on does not exempt them from committing murder. The guy wasn't upto the demanding job and his ability to act under pressure should have been spotted during recruitment. A life lost in this world because a Cop panicked.
We make rules for our employees to follow. When a cop CHOOSES to violate our rights and our rules we set for them we cannot tolerate it or ignore it. No matter what no cop should be allowed to enter or back yard without a warrant, much less shoot us in our own home because there may or may not be a burglary. Even if there was a burglary the cop does not get to shoot the resident. This cop broke all the rules, he was rogue,we cannot allow this to pass with out major consequences. He killed her in her own home. He created noises and lights without identifying himself so she had every right to shoot him dead. He had no right to shoot her even for his own safety. He had no right at all. He had no warrant. No Right to shoot anyone without being sure who it was since he was the one acting like a burglar
exactly .. thank you while watching the live feed I kept arguing that point with other people in the chat that kept saying he had every right to enter the gated fence without a warrant
