Aaron Hicks is one of those players that stuns you, baffles & shakes up everything you thought you knew about baseball; he looks the part, he has all the skill in the world, but he looks absolutely *LOST* and that's never really changed. Through *ALL* of that shit, he's still managed to make generational wealth for himself lol. Check it: According to Baseball Reference: *Career to date (may be incomplete) $55,175,070 Does not include future salaries ($19.57M)*
@@greatestnitemare6626 lol, you act like we need Hicks to continue to be good. The Orioles actually have a great outfield, one of the best in baseball. Hicks was just a fill in until Mullins came back, now the Yankees are a team that basically needs to pick a guy off the street to do well for them since their outfield is trash right now. And btw Hicks continues to play decent, his numbers don't show it but he got 2 huge RBIs against the Twins that ended up leading to wins. I certainly don't mind Hicks continuing to be our 4th OF, since he is so good at getting ahead in the count and drawing walks at least, and its even better that the Yankees are paying for his success in Baltimore.
Granted those are some cringe worthy moments but you could also compile a clip of equal length of some extremely spectacular defensive clutch plays made by him in addition to some timely hitting on his part or at bats when he really battled with the pitcher driving up his pitch count in the process. Clearly his time in NY had come to an end and it was necessary to part ways with him but I wish him well with Baltimore.
@rev1163 Apparently you've never seen highlight reels from earlier during his time here in NY nor are you acknowledging how he's currently doing in Baltimore?! Yeah these comments didn't age well.
@@rmh941 yeah he’s doing great, if he keeps it up it’s gonna be really interesting when Mullins is back. There will be a surplus of good outfielders. Or Hicks regresses and it doesn’t matter. Time will tell lol
@@thatguitarist25 Not that interesting. Mullins is a top 5 CF and that's his spot the lose and the O's have two very good corner outfielders too plus Colton Cowser (one of the top OF prospects in AAA) on the way. Hicks is probably the 4th OF now, the O's current 4th OF (Ryan McKenna) has fallen off and probably will lose his spot to Hicks. Hicks will be good to have off the bench.
Hicks was a decent enough player once upon a time. Probably just needs a fresh start somewhere else to get him back on track. He's been quite serviceable for the Os thus far.
I know that a compilation could be made of any elite-level player grounding into multiple double plays and having fielding miscues. Sometimes those aren't fair. But, these were nearly all from 2023 with the exception of the first 1-2 that were from late last year (if I recall). I don't know what happened to Hicks. He started off as a plus/neutral-defense player with a plus bat. Then the defense went away leaving him with a plus bat. Then the wheels all came off and the Yankees would've been happy to trade him away for a bag of baseballs and couldn't find a buyer.
Simply put, he got hurt. Again, and again, and again, and again. He literally could not stay on the field and became our new Ellsbury. By the time he finally stayed on the field for a sizeable amount of time, he was so taken out of it and his body banged up from all the injuries that there was no way he could be the player he was. The yips almost definitely got to him as well, playing cautiously and hesitating/second-guessing on everything he does to try to not get hurt again.
I was at that game against Tampa where he twirled around in center and hit the 1-2-3 inning-ending and rally-killing DP. I don't think I ever booed harder or louder in my entire life at a baseball game, and the fact that it was a player on the team I root for just made it even more worse. It was just pent-up frustration that built with the years of having Hicks on the team. I'm just glad he's no longer a Yankee cause I really could not stand him.
The thing for me is, this is only half of it. The crying about playing time, sheer lack of accountability (until the very, very end after Stanton told him what he should do) and the self pity, made it so much worse to watch. Had hicks behaved with accountability and humility? I think he would have played better and been more forgiven. FWIW There is a rumor floating that the last straw was when they pinch hit for him vs a righty pitcher, with DJ.. You could see the look on his face in the dugout. He is rumored to have stormed off and after the game, in the locker room, said that he was the second best OF on the team, behind only Judge. He criticized other guys. Judge and Cole took serious issue. Hal made the call. This was not Cashman's call. Cashman loved him. Either that or Hicks had some serious dirt on him. That is what I heard from a good source. I am no one, in the know by any means but I wasn't shocked to hear it. Take it as a rumor but again, would people be shocked?
The Yankees ruined Hicks. He was never a great player (and they over paid him) but the "launch angle" metrics and home run or strikeout philosophy the Yankees push on their players messed up his swing. He then took his pitiful hitting to the field. I'll bet he has a solid season for Baltimore.
Hurts when you have assistant coaches that have never played in the MLB. Baltimore has one of the best coaching staffs and demands guys to put the ball in play and now Hicks is going off for them.
Gerrit always seemed to be on the mound pitching a gem in a tight game until Hicks fucked up some slightly more difficult than routine play that lead to Cole melting on the mound in 2022. No more Hicks = Cole Cy Young in 2023💋
Look he’s obviously no hall of famer, and I know he’s really struggled this year, but he’s been a perfectly serviceable outfielder for about a decade in this league. These lowlights feel very cherry-picked. Everybody strikes out, everybody hits into double plays, and everybody has made a goof in the field. You could do one of these vids for every regular starter in the league.
thank god we finally DFA'd him. It's so dumb that we kept him for so long even though he clearly sucked and tbh was probably in the bottom 5 players in the entire AL
@@ledzep9943honestly, there is some truth to their comment. It’s mentioned in “Moneyball”. Some scouts get excited about guys just because they look like a major league ball player.
Some of these are just stupid. Guys hit into double plays sometimes. Hicks actually hit into very few. And his strikeouts weren't that frequent (everyone is striking out at historic rates now) And while some of these defensive plays were bad, others, like the one at 1:51, are just not being able to make a tough play
not really, julius sucks in the playoffs but was great in reg season this year and his 2nd year with the knicks. Hicks had been awful for the past 4 years, hicks is more like an evan fournier
THat was very tough to watch... thats all i can say. And that is just the start of it, so many bad moments in recent years. Sorry, but im happy we wont see him in the lineup anymore. Now if we only could find anyone who would take on some of Donaldson's contract, now were talking. Also so Bader and IKF get heated in the OF. Not sure how the "chemistry" is on this team. But we need to bring up some of our youngsters like weve slowly been doing, there will be a different feel to this team. Playing a player just because of how much were paying him, no matter if hes doing any good or not.... No... i just dont dig this. Im shocked we DFA Hicks. It was like once in ever 20 games he would have a HR and 2 hits, then he'd be hitless for the next 2 weeks with a few walks. Just aint cutting it. This team still has time to get their s88t together and could be dangerous but its gonna be hard to do when we constantly have injuries. This list of our 5 starters looked like a dream come true and still have not seen Rodon, luckily German comes back. Injuries is what ya get when you sign Hicks and Donaldson's etc. Sorry for the rant.
Dude makes center field look as hard as it actually is to play. But his “awful” hitting into double plays and tappers back to the mound are not fair. Dude is not elite defensively or at the plate, stop scapegoating and realize the yanks are trash and have been since Aron Boone took over
I’d say it’s pretty fair to critique someone for going 3/40 with the bases loaded. 40 at bats is a pretty large sample size and eventually you have to produce. You really think ONLY Yankee fans would be frustrated by a guy in your starting lineup who is historically bad in high leverage situations (esp when your team is competing for/in the playoffs every year)? I don’t hate Hicks and he started off solid for us, but injuries and his performance have gotten so bad where yeah… he should be let go lol
I love watching Yankees fans just turn on their own players 😂. They love them when they are playing well but once they drop in performance just a little they start to boo and whine. Probably one of the reasons why y’all do nothing in the playoffs with a stacked roster cause y’all never let your players be human and get into slumps without putting more salt in their wounds.
He has a job because the owner likes his performance. That’s it. What your perception or views don’t matter. He is making Hal money and that’s all it matters. This is no longer the same owner that shares his fathers views. Until you see that then continue suffering
@@maritimezhangso apparently what you’re saying is fans aren’t allowed to have any opinions and should just be robots with no emotions and have no opinions on anything when they’re the reason baseball happens?
In his first 3 games away from toxic, entitled Yankee fans- Hicks has already saved a HR, scored 3 runs , has 2 walks and 0 strikeouts. Love when the Yankees have to downgrade their team every year in order to quiet their dumb fans. Who is your next scapegoat?
As an os fan I was kinda skeptical that they decided to pick him up to replace Mullins for the time being but as of now he’s started to change my mind a little. I think a big factor was a change of scenery. I know as a player that if you’re unhappy on a team it starts to bleed into your performance. Especially when pressure is always on for you to not screw things up.
Watching Hicks at bat reminded me of my Mixed Softball team a few years back. I reached base most of the time with ease, but the girl hitting behind me would hit a grounder to short EVERY SINGLE AT BAT. Seriously, she was the worst double play hitter I've ever seen in my entire life.
that sucks personally I would tell her to take the first one or two pitches and I would just be stealing 2nd every time if i were you lol back when I used to play getting on base and stealing was my thing with my speed ( ik nobody cares) but theres nothing worst then getting on base and your teammates grounds out and your out on 2nd and they get safe on first the worst !
The longevity of baseball players careers is based on adjustments. Sometimes finite sometimes drastic. Think casual fans sometime believe its the easiest of pro sports which in fact it may be one of it not the most difficult to sustain a career
every year dozens of players come up out of college or foreign leagues aiming for your roster spot, the competiiton is strong, and the sport is very data driven nowadays. good charisma and skills can get you far, but will it keep you around? need results... specifically a good batting average WAR score
The swing for the fences every time you bat philosophy doesn't typically work with most players and that seems to be the dominant philosophy for the yankees.
