I think he kind of handled it like a chick. They have a tendency to just hide stuff like that, then BOOM! Respect though that he didn't back door the shop and leave too.
I've been self employed and had business partner for 10 years. When the economy failed us, it was tough. I'm sure it hurt but damn! Recognize your talent and keep pushing. I hope he will.
A old guy said to me when I started my career "make yourself so irreplaceable that when you decide to leave, it hurts, bad". I've lived by that. And that's what happened here. It hurt. Bad.
Wish I had this advice. An old man once told me: never become too good at your job else you will never be promoted. So I never really made myself irreplaceable. Time to change!
@@robertmccully2792 in my line of work there is no real training. Building one off thing a prototypes isnt something you train one to do. When I started they gave me a work area, access to every piece of equipment I needed, a pile of material, and a blueprint and said build it. No help. No coaching. Nothing.
@@swing2gether Just like construction which i did for 35 years. here are the plans. Go build it, and when your done call me and i will give you your next job.
@@nathanchose4044 yeah and guess what? Street outlaws wasnt. All of them guys are still out there racing, hitting up tracks, hitting up events like texas2k and shit like that. Richard made a promise to chief he'd bring his own car and drive it. And he didnt. And when he was called out on it, he backpedaled, came up with every feasible excuse he could, and ultimately ruined his ratings.
@@lesant7659 that fool whom you speak of made him a millionaire perhaps . In other words , that fool whom you speak of made Aaron . Without Richard , Aaron would walk halls as a phantom .
@@Trashcankicker. Great mechanics, who own their shops or work for higher-end dealerships make as much as engineers. Aaron doesn’t have anyone else to thank except for himself. Richard could have never gotten the show if it wasn’t for talented craftsmen like Aaron. Each hand washes the other. I know the show was Richards idea , but didn’t bring anything to the show but pompous attitude and talk.
@@jasonren666 That's not true, Aaron was already a VERY WELL KNOWN and VERY RESPECTED Car Builder and fabricator. He didn't need that show nor Richard to be famous, if it wasn't for Aaron Richard would still be a used car salesman in the outskirts of Dallas.
@@TheREALOC1972 He was working at some garage and where richard asked him to come work for him, so Richard made him a star and now his net worth is 8 facking million, so find me a garage that pay me 8 million in 5 years time! So he's an ungreatfull bastard!
I am a Machinist fabricator welder etc... He only bolted parts together 98 percent of the time, just like Orange County Choppers. I wouldn't pay Him much.
@@preeganjaygovender3108 look at the reviews for shifting gears 1.10 stars average review on imdb. On Gasmonkey He made fake prototype firebirds. He overdid everything throwing tons of parts at projects. He gave the go ahead on cars that were piles of rust so may times it makes you wonder if he has a brain. When Roadkill challenged them to a drag they couldn't even get their car started. Go look at the Cut Dawg Lowrider and tell me who would buy that.
JLHunt You took away the suggestion that I was implying he deserved a stake in the company, which is wrong. A good boss/leader would realize that it is his team that helped make him successful. Simply saying that they worked with you gives acknowledgement to their years of sweat by your side. Not saying just shows ones own narcissism and inability to appreciate your own employees. No money. No shares. Just a show of appreciation.
shiruka porras where do you draw the line? Richard had a vision and he wants to make GMG bigger and badder but where do you stop?! Burning people out? Having all the riches but still feeling unfulfilled. GMG is starting to sound like Facebook who always want to try and be the next Facebook. It’s all about profit and flipping cars but within that they seem to be becoming victims of their own success. A shame really it is.
Aaron was the brain behind the projects. Dude has a lot of experience , skill & has made many connections. The only thing stopping him from achieving his own success is working for someone else. Now he has nobody pressuring him to get things done instantly and the money he gets for his work goes to him not another man
Pitufo Chiludo agreed on that! But why work for somebody when u can b ur own boss he already was doing it all pretty much my point its richard only cocern was the money he was gonna loose not his long time friend
G B yeah he was more concern about letting go of money than his long time friend! He may find more ppl yo push around but never another aaron he never show any feeling about letring aaron go more than the mecanic who made money for him
I could only imagine the weight Aaron feels off his shoulders and how free he feels after walking out of that door, good for him. And good on him for knowing when to leave.
I’m sure there was plenty of warning in Aaron’s mental state and physical health of being over worked for so many years because of Richards greed. No job is worth that kind of stress in life. A lot of people would be a lot happier and more free if they took a little lesson from Aaron and his decision making. He’s doing what he loves and he’s doing it on his own terms. Richard has plenty of money he could just find another master mechanic to over work to meet his impossible deadlines lol. No boss cares about you. They only care about the money you make them. Period. I respect him for making a choice like that.
@@edwinasas5075 You're a bum, stop defending a known asshole and maybe use more than 4 iq before you shit on an overworked and underpaid mechanic like Aaron. Richard deserved nothing more, im surprised he didn't just email him.
Aaron looked pissed and wanted nothing to do with him. He wouldn’t even shake his hand. Richard definitely didn’t treat him well enough or even consider him a partner. It’s too bad
@@edwinasas5075 Yeah man that’s crazy, you’d think after all that time there would be some camaraderie, but it clearly seems that Aaron just didn’t give a single shit about him. Wonder what the story is behind the scenes, rumors circulate that RR is a shady dude.
@@edwinasas5075 he didn't make money off Richard, Richard made money off him, his shop is open bc of his help. He got paid for what he did, he deserved and earned that money. The owner makes money off his work
Exactly and that he left after telling the other 5 guys about Aaron and saying he gonna go get drunk but they gotta make the racecar Such a lazy boss, they need to all walk out too
@@dominickjustave3558 People forget that aaron was just the next mechanic in the next garage on the block, and richard asked to come work for him and now he has a net worth of 8 million dollars, so richard made him stinking rich and that's why i think that aaron is an ungreatfull fucking bastard to take a vacation first and then come back and tell that he won't come back, so imo he deserved a punch in the mouth when he sat there in that office with richard. And what's up with all those dudes with that ugly doormat on their chin? Since when became that hobo look a fashion?
Not sure why this is so current when it happened years ago? Summed up really quick with Richards comments, “he worked for me for 14 years”, when it should have been they worked together for 14 years. Richard was the Sales guy, Aaron was the Shop guy, but it came down to one owner and not two. I’m sure that stung. But who knows, a lot scripted, a lot we the public don’t know. But I will say, bad business model; every leader has a strong right hand man, and Richard didn’t see it that way (apparently).
Notice how Richard makes it about himself. Rather than saying he gave me a lot of great years and I respect his decision and I hope he succeeds, he says it was a slap on the ass after working for me for 14 years. Working for me. That just tells me he never saw Aaron as an equal even though Aaron was ultimately the reason for his success.
I met Aaron when I visited Dallas. Really nice guy. Wish him all the best! He’s a car guy and has a passion for cars and the GMG business model has worn him down.
Kaufman could not take the pressure because he's a lousy mechanic and clueless. Anyone who does not know enough to use break in oil on a new engine can not call himself a mechanic. It's that simple.
i applaud you aaron . i worked for a mechanic for 18 yrs of 60 hr wks and told him im retiring and could not eccept that. i opened his shop every day , he came and left as he wanted .the day i moved my tool boxes out , it hit him. i handed his keys back . he was in tears and repented of his hostitility toward me. over the years. i forgave him , hugged him and said ill miss your customers. you showed mr rawlings you dont have limitations i proud of you.
Can't blame him for his position. He's suffering from "car build burnout." At least he was honest with Richard -- and for that, he's always got, and always had, my respect.
i don’t think it’s his own burnout from cars, especially since he built his own shop and still makes his own projects. i just think he got tired of doing cars only richard liked and wanted to build.
Oh Pu-Lee-Ze. This is what happens when a production company offers to let you make your own similar show and offers you a percentage that sounds better than your salary. Which then falls on it's face btw.
This can all be summed up very easily. Look at what Aaron drove off in. A regular mans work truck. But 100+ hours a week he had to build cars for Richards personal collection and customer cars. Richard made the money, reaped the major benefits, and Aaron just stayed humble and he saw how much Richard and the business changed around him and did what he had to do. Fast forward to today, Aaron is where he should be, highly respected and recognized by his own style.
Aaron was just the head mechanic that got a very well payed job from richard 14 years earlier, and now he walks out on the spot without leaving richard a chance to plan things ahead, so imo aaron is a ungreatfull piece of shit, and lucky for richard his show is still on tv, so whatever people think of him, he's still popular and aaron is not, because he may have his own shop, but he's sure not on tv, so there's some facts for you. And i don't understand why people hate richard so much, because he's not a spoiled brat that got everything for free in his life, and he was a cop and a firemen, so out there to protect and save peoples lives, so he deserves credit for that alone. And then he had a printing busines with succes and sold it on with a profit and stepped into the car busines and again with succes, so he's a self made man that works for his money. Sure he's flamboyant and a little arogant on the show, but hey, it's all show, and when you want to watch a dull old guy everyone thrust, then there's chasing classic cars with wayne carini, and when you want types that wear 3 quarter pants and are 4 feet tall then you watch west coast customs with that little dwarf called ryan friedlinghaus, and when you want a showman then you watch fast 'n loud, it's simple as that!
@@ronniedoorzon1576 lol you got a big crush in him or something rofl the show sucks after the bearded guy left maybe if you go kiss his ass some more he will hire you LOOOOOL
@@Tattooed_lowlyfe Yes he does because richard went to the tv people and convinced them to make a show around GMG, and then he hired Aaron who was just the next mechanic on the block working for peanuts an hour, and Richard made it possible that he also get a piece of the $$$$$$ action $$$$$, because the tv payed him top dollars to show his doormat that is hanging on his skinny face on tv! Aaron's net worth is 8 million dollars and he worked 13 years for that, so that's a whopping 615K a year! Now go find a fucking garage that pay a mechanic that kind of money, so aaron owes EVERTHING he has to Richard because without Richard he would still be busting his ass for 20-30 bucks an hour at some unknown greasy garage! Yeah he was complaining about the long hours! Well, for 615k i would drag my bed to the garage and live there for as long i get payed 50k a month! So next time do your homework before you start to talk nonsense! And the hard lesson is that when the tv offers you a shitload of money, then don't hire a mechanic and pay him big bucks, because as soon the money will go over their heads they will become snobs who think that they can do better for themselves, and where is aaron now? Nowhere! He's has become a fucking hasbin, a nobody with too much money on his account! So there's the hard truth for you! Now deal with it!
He was always the talent there. Busted his butt all the time, tons of pressure and overtime and Richard took the public credit for all his work. Aaron will be successful and a great boss.
Yeah Detroit....notice how he didn't even have to think that answer? If it came that quick and natural, its probably been right at the forefront of his mind for a long lonnnng time.
Same. I used to watch every episode. After Aaron left just wasn't the same and the builds weren't the same quality. Aaron is a master mechanic at a level that not many people can reach. Good for him for doing his own thing. He deserves it.
Aaron is a genius and a hard worker and his name is legendary so he can't fail, his followers will always appreciate his skill. Richard is a businessman like many that come a dime a dozen, in it to win it yet not knowing the true value of those that stood on hands and knees so that they could climb the wall and wave instead of reaching down to lift those that got them there. But don't give up on him too early, i know he gonna surprise us someday when his heart grows a few sizes bigger lol. He's not all that bad.
Big props to Aaron. After fourteen years it isn't easy to walk away from anything. I'm sure he took a long time on his personal days to arrive at that conclusion, which brings a lot of uncertainty full-circle. But at the end of the day he believed in himself, the way he saw his life going and put one foot in front of the other to make that vision a reality.
Richard should of offered him a percentage of the company rather than a wage. Aaron was too big of a face of the show for him to leave. The show Certainly turned for the worse when he left.
Richard was too greedy, and by then full of himself. Shortly after he made the statement that no one person is not replaceable. The original idea may have been Richard's ( Wooohooo's), but Aaron was a key part of making it a success, but each year the show went on, " Wooooo-Hooooo" treated Aaron more and more just like any other hourly wage employee. Besides, I've heard enough Woooo-Hooooo to last me awhile.
Huge fan of the show, I agree, and in fairness, people need to evolve in their professional lives. Don't blame Kaufman for quitting, he did 14 years working in the same job. People need to move when they get itchy feet. Hindsight says that some of the deadlines for finishing those cars would have aggravated the purist in him. Perhaps if he had been offered a big chunk of business ownership then it might have swayed his opinion, but that's a moot point. In a small group there's always a potential banana skin if you're too reliant on one person and their presence is pretty much taken for granted.
@@alexandreberthiaume9794 Fair enough. I stopped watching the show several years ago because RR is such a Dick. I stumbled upon this video today and wasn't surprised at all to see him lose his most talented man. Good for Aaron
I've met and been around Richard Rawlings a few dozen times. He is about himself and only himself. Aaron on the other hand was just a good dude. I'm surprised he stayed as long as he did.
I totally understand were He's coming from, you work your ass off for somebody thinking your doing your part and feel appreciated and then one day you realize, I can do better and im over it, you can just see the look of all His pressure being wiped away when He walked out.
He was half the show he should have been half the partner. Money is good but I think he's more concerned about creating some artistic artwork. Cars are art.
Do not blame the man for wanting to find his own place in life . Weather he fails or wins , you have to try. Richard did it so why shouldn't some one else . But I do think he should have given Richard a two week notice . Richard will not loose at the game . He'll roll with the punches . I say good luck to both of them .
Good for him. Aaron definitely seemed like the brains of the whole operation. I was at SEMA one year and there was a huge line around a booth for autographs as I walked by. I asked one of the guys standing there who the line was for, and he said Richard Rawlins. All I could think was, why?
As a long time tech I always thought it was funny when some new manager would fire some old knowledgeable tech for having a beer while at a restaurant having lunch but proceed to call them a month later begging them to come back only to find out they scored a way better gig. Yeah everyone replaceable but are you ready to deal with the headaches of your replacements. Aaron doesn't impress me much. Neither does Richard but they got way more$$$ than I'll ever have.
He didn’t quit, he was burned out. His was loyal… give him the credit for building your business. None of these guys have his experience or all of hours he put into this Gas Monkey garage.
to be honest, he's right. He was working for him. He was the one building all this. Sure, Aaron was a great mechanic, maybe the best one out there for gas monkey at the time, but he didn't risk his money on this project, he didn't risk anything, he was just getting paid to build cars. It's easy to talk bullshit about richard, but in the end of the day, he's the one that has to think on how to keep moving foward, how to pay the bills, how to get promotions, magazine covers, how to keep moving foward. Guess that this doesn't even matter, Richard proved that Aaron is replacable (company wise, not show, he was great in the show and I do miss him) and kept making money, building new crazy cars and making a name on the car world.
@@megarafjogos the only thing Richard proved is that he lost an employee, not a friend of 14+ years who's helped build the company to anything recognizable beyond a big city customs startup.
@@spacecadet0 sure, but we can't talk about what's going on in the backstage. We don't really know why and how he left. The one that acted like it didn't mean anything to him was aaron, he just showed up and left without a warning.
Just clickbeat!! This happened already a few years ago . Big mouth Richard get what he deserves!!! I've stopped watching the " show" years ago. The arrogance of Richard is just unbelievable 🤬
Well you see thays usually how a business works. The boss pay you for your service to keep their place operational. That's literally the definition of any job
If the show falls apart with Aaron's departure then Richard can easily get a new job as a stand in for Beavis and Buthead the movie. Hes a very self concerned man and still stuck in the 80s
You’re not going to lose, but that’s not the point. He was more than “a man”. He was a partner you never treated like a partner. Simple as that. You will both continue to thrive, just separate.
I'm glad Aaron left, good for him...... I stopped watching this show years ago..... I didn't like the way Richard Rawlings treated his employees and his arrogant ass attitude....... been watching the Count every since......👍
Used to watch this video on and off for about a year until I decided to leave my job and find a better suited job for me. For all of you out their watching this wishing you found a better job and are hard workers trust me if you work hard and are not appreciated leave!!! Hard workers are appreciated everywhere. Don't worry.
Both great guys, wish Aaron had the ability to give him two weeks, to a month because of their phenomenal history. Regardless, happy that they both can succeed doing what they do
A truly good leader would say: "Aron, I call the local catering right away and the guys get the day off. We got celebrate you and youre time here". Blesses from Norway
When I managed a Radio Shack long ago, I was forced to fire a guy due to low sales. It came from the higher ups as he wasn't costing us but he wasn't productive as much as they wanted. I told him and then took him out to lunch. I am not a pushy sales type person and I appreciated his style and so did the customers. My store closed down 1.5 years after they moved me out ( I got downgraded to assistant manage of a huge store so my income actually went up slightly ) as customers just stopped wanting to go to a pressure sales place to shop.( the sales people were all replaced by new pressure sales people ) I saw RS's demise coming years before it happened. Management stopped caring at all about the experience and just wanted sales. I can understand getting burned out. Many times the money doesn't matter if you are miserable. I left Radio Shack < a year after that, never to return. I have been self Employed since, I get to do it my way now.
I'm honestly surprised Richard didn't see this coming. I mean how long did he think someone as talented, driven, and passionate as Aaron was gonna continue to work FOR someone. Aaron does that good of a job, pulling off amazing things in an amazing amount of time, and Richard is the one getting rich.
I got the chance to meet Aaron at Arclight in Dallas when they were in the process of moving to their new shop back in 2019. I'd never heard of him, but my wife was a huge fan and was geeking out. She kind of painted this image of a Hollywood superstar mechanic, and when we came to the shop, his assistant brought us back, and he was just standing there cleaning his tools and packing up. We talked for a while, got some photos, and helped them pack a little. He's a genuine and amazing guy, complete polar opposite of Rawlins.
@@fatwalletboy2 You'd have to be a only a casual fan to not know how long Aaron had been gone. I've watched every episode from the beginning. I for sure miss him on the show though. He made it much more enjoyable to watch.
