Rick nailed it about the Tamil DNA. That rhythm is deeply coded in Tamil people's DNA. It makes them move involuntarily. Personally, everytime i hear the rhythms of parai, urumi, and thavil (all these r percussion instruments) an overwhelming emotion sweeps me like a giant wave and i feel a strong lump in my throat and my eyes well up. The reason why most people don't understand the lyrics is because the lyrics aren't in Tamil in the first place :-). It's a language called Sinhala that is mainly and widely used in Sri Lanka.
