Wow, John Wesley harden was just released when this was recorded.... Jimi must have loved this song immediately on first hearing it.

Brian trying to match the guitar but he could have just played whole bass notes for a bit of texture but the piano does sound slightly off from the guitar.

a little rough in the beginning but the piano does get better

It's weird but extremely cool to hear this before they added the big reverb effect!

It's a mystery here ,.... The Guitars are not in tune with the piano. Jimi had a penchant for live electric performance to detune his guitars down to to Eb. . I would think Brian Jones up to the minute tracking wasn't planned and perhaps he did not study the material before entering the studio (??) Perhaps Jimi was just being gracious to his friend .(?) Jimi was know to not say no to anyone.. Brian Jones did end up playing the vibraslap percussion at the beginning of the finished track. Thanks for posting this

Sweet posting! , Is this with Eddie Kramer engineering. I believe there is audio of this session of Jimi saying 'no no no' to Brian's experiments.

This is very sad... we all know what he would have been capable of in a good state.

I can here now why they didn't use Brian Jones' piano on this. Yikes. He really couldn't play piano. Or else was too hammered to know a major chord from a minor chord on piano.

how do you count the intro?

I know Brian was rumored to have been wasted when he turned up to this session but his playing is ok and more sounds like he is figuring it out. That said it wasn’t adding a whole lot to the song though which certainly was not in keeping with Brian’s coloring of songs
