Gday mate, enjoyed watching both of your aawt trips, do you think there will be plenty of water up there to do a March to April walk. Also was there water at the Viking saddle. ??
Think autumn will be perfect , but who knows... definitely won't be no water left. Apparently there is water at viking saddle if you drop down, but not sure which side ?
Not many Andrew, haven't got my days down to an exact science yet, but at least two weeks per bottle...at bare minimum. Most of the time I'm cold soaking breakfast , 50% of the time lunch too. So think I was 1.5 for the trip
The single works. The double is pretty big, maybe not that practical if you're in a pinch for a spot late in day and there's only a small site. Though if you want to spend more time relaxing the double would be good. Good luck !
@@anncornish9520 my itinerary, was a bit different both times. It depends on what you're comfortable doing each day, where your food drops are , and the weather, have to be adaptable as camping up high is not possible sometimes. Your best bet is to get the Chapman book and go through the possible campsites, especially Walhalla to Hotham. From Hotham on, you have a lot of hut stays, so many good ones to either stay in, or camp around. Ropers, cleve Cole, Mt Wills. Into NSW I love Tin Mine and Cascade huts. Then more good ones all the way up to Oldfield's hut. Actual camp spots with great views- these are weather dependant, I wouldn't camp up here in rough weather- Mt McDonald west peak- exposed , hard to find flat ground, but epic views, possibly the best for entire track. Mt Speculation, great views, again not in rough weather. See how my memory go's for my first trips itinerary.... Mushroom rocks, stronarchs ( next to Rd), red jacket ( old school site), black river, rumpff saddle, Mt McDonald west peak-, Chester's yard, camp creek, Barry saddle, coghill ck ( next to Rd, below par spot). Hotham. Cope ck, cleve Cole, Sunnyside, Taylors crossing, beloka ( off trail) , Murray river ( off trail), cowombat flat, tin mines, cascade hut, thredbo. Whites hut, okeefes hut, happy jacks site, whitzes hut, Murray gap, honey suckle creek, finish. That trip track was closed in parts after fires hence being off track. 2022- Alternate start woods point- black river, no named spot( think I gave description on video), low saddle, the nobs , Macalister springs, Catherine saddle, random terrible spot next to Rd I can't remember, the twins tank, Hotham. Memory escapes me in next hut( says on video) , bogong creek saddle, Mt Wills hut, Taylors crossing , Beloka (off trail, weather was to wild for Johnnies top), buenba flat, buckwong creek, cowombat flat, cascade hut, thredbo. Went to far next day, ended up in a power station carpark in the dark, valentine's hut, Okeefes hut, memory escapes me again...hut near the old four mile hut anyway, whitzes hut, Oldfield's hut, honey suckle creek, finish. Think that's right, pretty close anyway. Yep, videoing the CDT
Well done Ben, outstanding work. I was on the rolling ground on Tuesday 29/11 and ran into a couple of north to south AAWTers and the river crossings where all they worried about. glad you made it on though.
Yeah I got lucky really, was able to avoid or go around the worst of it. Weather was good the last bit, so they've all gone back to near normal for now..
Congrats on the finish and many thanks for filming the trip. I look forward to the NZ videos as I'm also planning on doing the South Island sometime soonish.
You smashed it Ben. Why not do the whole TA it is really worth it, Did it in 19/20 loved it. Oh by the way what is normal live, isn't that normal out on the trails. LOL.
Thanks Willem . Didn't really have time for North island , so south it is. Unfortunately I'll have to return to ' normal ' at some point, the $$$s will come to an end eventually, unless the 23 people that watch my videos want to fund me haha
@@AdventureswithWillem CDT and PCT look great. Went with the CDT as it's less crowded and maybe a few more exciting dangers like grizzlies/moose, etc haha
Tsla compression pants off Amazon. Pretty cheap. I use them to keep sun off mainly, but they help to keep getting to scratched up, also decent at keeping you warm
@@anothertravelflog thanks Ben, I really love your work! I’m sitting back right now sipping on a Bentspoke while watching the latest AAWT video😊. It’s great you’re talking about your gear people love that stuff. I’m doing Thredbo to Tharwa in February without re-supply and I’m tossing up between using my BRS stove like yours with 4x200g gas canisters or a Jetboil with 2 canisters, any advice? Cheers mate!
Hey Ben, I'm up at Wee Jasper this weekend fly fishing and wanted to take my son down Long Plain and try and walk into Oldfields Hut. Do you know the closest road from the NW side?
Pocket saddle road takes you to within 3.4kms of Oldfield's, comes in via tantangara rd , then park at the gate and walk in . I'm not sure about the other side
Yeah it was a first for me walking that long on wet feet. Early on they were chopping up a bit , but seemed to just get used to it. Definitely sore now though
