Applied Behavior Analysis (2nd Edition) by John O. Cooper is considered the best for understanding the concepts. Ethics for Behavior Analysts, 3rd Edition by Jon Bailey is great for the ethics portion. Good luck!

Applied behavior analysis uses evidence-based techniques to guide decisions. A good journal to look at for the more recent research is JABA. Let me know if you have any other questions.

The prevalence of autism is increasing. See stats by CDC: used to be 1 in 150 kids in the year 2000 it’s now approximately 1 in 44 kids. This was his comment 3 years ago. I’m sure the demand has only gotten stronger.

I have worked with many people in the past that have accents and it has worked just fine. It is actually good for generalization. You might have to do a little more homework if teaching new words to make sure you are pronouncing it as close as possible (and you learn at the same time, win-win). I recommend googling "cambridge dictionary" and using their website to find the words you want to teach, there's a button to hear someone pronounce it. You'll do great! The fact that you are already asking on how to improve is a sign that you'll be an excellent therapist.

Well, I am not going to tell you you're wrong because your opinions are 100% yours! I just wanted to say ABA Therapy is not necessarily wanting to "change behavior", in the clinics I have worked it has majorly been about how we can help that child understand and communicate their emotions and wants, different ways to show those emotions safely, and how to help them become as independent as possible overtime and reach their best potential. If you knew a child that hit their head on the wall, and overtime slowly learned how to ask for a squeeze toy instead when needed. I definitely see that being much more helpful for that child than potentially harming themselves.

I will make a video on how to start a career in ABA but to get started, you want to contact the agencies in your area. Autism Speaks has a good database on the agencies in your area and you can call to see what they require to get started. If you have any more questions, let me know.

May I ask how it is horrible? How would you prefer the programs to be like? What is considered help? Generally these practices are to help individuals with harmful behaviors like hitting as he’s mentioned in the video.

@@plantspit518 A kid isn't born hitting themselves. The behavior of hitting oneself is acquired. The solution isn't to torture the kid into compliance (not hitting themselves), but to identify the cause. ABA is abuse and causes the exact behaviors it claims to treat.

@@borninussr7242 Usually, a clinician wouldn't take a client if there's nothing wrong...so....they were already exhibiting the hitting behaviors beforehand. ABA's whole idea is to identify the cause, or the function, of why a learned behavior continues to occur, and under what antecedent conditions. @@IcanSeeMyselfOutThanks How does ABA determine the cause of behavior when they deny the existence of inner world (under the skin)? What if ABA is what has caused the SIB in the first place? Can they really fix it by applying more of it?

@@borninussr7242 why would you get behavioral services if you didn't have behavioral issues? Also, Radical Behaviorism, BF Skinner, said even private events are behaviors. Look up Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Has its roots in ABA and focuses on all the feelings your little heart can handle

I actually made another video specifically about autism and ABA and that is a common misconception. ABA should NOT be centered around what neurotypicals define as normal. ABA should be centered about teaching skills that center around independence such as communication. You can imagine how frustrating it would be to want something but not being able to articulate what you desire. And you are correct about ABA being used for dog training. ABA is a set of tools that can be used in many different settings including a school, work, and business environment. The same principals apply but implemented in different ways with different goals in mind. Thank you for bringing up these thoughts as I'm sure some others may share similar concerns!

@@ABAmadeeasy The only reason ABA is applied to autistics is because they can't say no. Same principles have been applied when they created gay conversion therapy. Somehow, that therapy is no longer in use.

​@ussr7242 ABA needs to end there are plenty of Autism Advocates pointing out why it is wrong. I am going through counselling because of repressed memories from going through this. #SayNoToABA .

May I ask how it is traumatizing? Isn’t that a misconception based on unfortunate past events? Like how in ABA they used to use the electric chair as a form of punishment but how does that apply to the practices of today?

You sound very Angry and Traumatized- you need Therapy Might not be to late for you. If you are 90 and senile we might not have enough time to get results - but everyone has improvements
