Abadjiev lectures Podium Gold team members on the importance of proper rest. He's not happy they use their day off on skype, texting, facebook etc. He explains why.
I love these talks. This man is not only a living legend but also a VAST wealth of knowledge. When the day comes and he goes all of that knowledge will go with him. The more information we can extract from him the better the world will be.
Sorry about that. I will add some louder translation. Basically he is telling these guys that they get one day off, rest, don't screw around with facebook, youtube, texting and so on. When you don't rest properly, you don't bounce back on Monday and your training gets off to a bad start. That happened today and he was not happy, hence the lecture.
Fortunately he has passed on much of his knowledge, and certainly all of his training methodology, to his first student, Alex Krychev. Krychev has immersed himself into the details of his training, particularly the scientific basis of the Bulgarian System.
Abadjiev doesn't train anyone like this since they would not be able to adapt to his system. That being said, if your workouts are of sufficient duration, you could still improve if you focused on the two basic Olympic lifts and added front squats in each session, with power snatch and power clean as well as jerk off the rack from time to time.
The idea is that you need to be mentally prepared and focused. That means moderate your activities during your rest day. A little bit of this is fine, of course, but too much of it consumes mental energy.
Is their a book or website that gives this information? For those of us who aren't professional olympic lifters or live on the other side of the country.
He says that a brainiac should rest on his day off. In recent months I have been studying his techniques and the history of Bulgarian weightlifters. I do not think that the Bulgarian method is fully applicable today, except in North Korea. Before the Olympics in Seoul, the team spent 6 months in a military base. Nobody came out. A child was born to Angel Genchev, whom he had not seen until the end of the Olympics. Even though he failed as a person, I believe the USSR scripted us with the diuretics. Today, Carlos Nassar partially applies Abadjiev's methodology and achieves results.
The idea is that you have to also think about lifting in details. While lifting you don't think about other things. While rest you don't think about other stuf. Mental focus is not just during activitie, it never stops. In the video he talks about Asen Zlatev, "who had the best recovering ability". He shows how he used to drop his head backwards and just being almost in a state of meditation while relaxing.
I would add nervous system detoxication. When you rest without the presence of technology, movies, etc., you do a kind of a dopamine detox. This clears your mind, reenergizes you and you give your nervous system the proper rest. Big performances are not always about strenght or intellect, the nervous system plays the biggest part in whatever you are doing. In lifting for example your muscle might be strong enough to lift the weight, but your nervous system has to be ready for the lift or it won't happen even if your muscle is ready.
Nooo. You take all the work you would do in 7 days, and do it all in two. LOL Right? You get Saturday and Sunday off, and you don't sleep until Monday evening.
