Abandoned 1 Owner 32K Turbo Buick Grand National! Will It Drive Home?
Trying to rescue this 1 owner GN after being abandoned in Randy's backyard for 13 ish years from the harsh weather that has destroyed it and get it home to my shop. Will it drive home?
Belonged to one of my best friends and brother from another mother Randy Crawford who was a Buick enthusiast like myself. He bought it brand new. Randy owned several V8 Buick Powered Buicks through the years. He passed unexpectedly 9-4-22

Had a fox body 1990 mustang I got from a friend of mine been sitting and sinking in the ground for 10+ years and I told him if I can start it would you sell me it and he said yes. Not even 35 mins later me and my pops had it cranked and money in hand all it was was a backwards solenoid and wrong wiring easy fix long story short in 1 year and hard work we had it in our first car show was the greatest moment o had with my father.

Absolutely love the alternator bracket tie down! I’ve had that on my car since 1999. FYI for me 5 year old bad gas was red in color and I decided I’d better go new tank, pump, filter and AN lines for E85. The last thing you want is any fueling issues of course. Also had the injectors cleaned and flowed by chuck leaper, but probably going bigger soon anyway.

I've let my car go for 5 years or close to it on a full tank, BUT-that is sitting in a temp controlled shop. I say temp controlled, "well insulated" for now. It has gas heat on a T-Stat. Doesn't get below 50. I plan to put A/C in it. On a 100 ish degree day here in the south with 100% humidity, in there with doors and windows closed it's 75-80 degrees. Anyway, I've pumped the old gas from my GN to my daily driver and never had an issue.

I have an 87 GN that I got the same way. He called me 6 days before he died from Diabetes & I was like "I would love to have your car but not for those reasons!" His father called me 6 days later to tell me he passed away! it's become my mid life crisis/ 20 year project. this car was used well. 187,500 original miles on her & I've done a version 2.0. Turbo Lou Czarnota helped me get it partially there, i also have an electrical leak, But once I get that fixed, Lou built me a 10.5 second sleeper lol!.done quite a bit to modernize her because I always wanted a GNX. now I have one basically, still have the original license plates on her as well with a in memory of license plate frame. had plenty offers to buy her but I'm not selling her because I've got a lot of $$ tied up into her & I'm sentimental.

187.5 K is some miles. I hope your friend didn't just abandon the car "outside in the weather like my friend did.! I can't believe Randy just abandoned this 32k mile car in his back yard. I'm thankful to have the car now, it's inside out of the weather so I have stopped the bleeding. But man--what it's gonna cost to restore it! Thanks for watching and telling me your story.

Change all the fluids check the vacuum lines and replace them. Get some tires on it and that’s a start. I had a 70 GS 455. The car was loaded with options and a 3:42 geared positive traction. I bought it off a used car lot for $900 back in the late 80s. I didn’t know what I had at the time. The car was well cared for and super clean. It would run mid 12s to low 13s around 108 mph. I was young and stupid back then. But I’ve been through gtos challengers roadrunners and many more muscle cars since then. I’m on the look out for a GN or another GS 455. Take care of her man they are hard to come by.

I am all Buick for sure. At 1 time I had 2 turbo cars and 4 V8s -Buick Powered Buicks. I got down to my ‘72 GS and ‘87 GN. I had em both for sale in ‘00 and of course one of the Buick guys from the Michigan Chapter wanted the ‘72. So I gave up on selling the GN and shoved it in the corner of my shop. Still have it unfortunately today. My friend who passed and left me this car also had a restored 70 GS that is now his daughters. She has promised to sell it to me should she ever decide to sell it. There is a link to it in this videos description. The 3rd video on this car will be out around new years. Thanks For Watching! 👍😊

Old fuel is pushing rust into the fuel injectors that is why it is definitely running so rough
@buickdude69
@buickdude69 10 месяцев назад
That definitely was not the answer either. 😊The car was full of fuel, which didn’t allow condensation or rust. I know from my own experience of leaving the tank full and starting it 4-5 years later, and it running fine. I was barely able to pump 2 gallons in it sloshing out the fill neck. What the problem was, isn’t what anyone thought of. I started changing parts and found it in the next video. 😊 Thanks for watching.

I love these cars and when they’re straight they run great, but that motor can be a bear. It’s just a hard time for any motor. The time of emissions and the limited tech of electronics made it tough sometimes. Once you get them straight they cook though. Glad you’re willing to bring one back for a lost brother. Edit- I bet that faded oxidized paint will come back with a good clean and polish.
@buickdude69
@buickdude69 Год назад
I like the old V8 Buick Powered Buicks better myself, but these cars are ok- like u said if you can ever get them right. But they are inconsistent and won’t run the same each pass 10 out of 10 times. The paint on top is rougher in places than it looks. We will see in time what happens with it. Thanks for watching 👍

@Sub250 aerial shots Thanks. I've got as many or more years with them myself. I'm a Buick guy, and by that I mean I'm more into the V8s but love all "Buick Powered Buicks". At one time I had 4 V8 Buicks and 2 turbo cars back in the 90s. Sold everything but 1 GN and a '72 GS. They both were for sell. No one wanted the GN but they were knocking down my door for the GS. A guy from the Michigan chapter bought my GS. I stuck the GN in the corner and that's were it's been all these years. I'm not a chebby or Generic Meatheads guy that likes the turbo V6 like most guys out there now a days. Back when these cars were new, it was a lot of V8 Buick guys buying them. Guys who already had Skylarks and GS's, Wildcats, etc. A lot of them have died off through the years. I met a lot of them at the GS Nationals over 30 years ago. I've got 2 455s, 1 of them is going to be over 1600 hp with an F1X or next size up Procharger on it running on E85 before I do anything with the 2 turbo cars. :) If Randy's daughter Katie will ever sell me his GS, that's what it's going in. Or I'll put it in a C5 Vette just to piss off some chebby guys. :)

Thanks for watching. I’m a Buick guy though so I hope to have more videos on the Real Buicks-the Buick Powered V8’s 👍😎 This guy was 1 of my best friends and I did a walk around video of his GS 11 years ago. That link is in the description of this video. The purpose of it was sand bagging hoping to pick on some chevys to street race but we never did. The car had more than 455 cubes and I wasn’t even really driving it or manually shifting it in the video. I’ll be buying it from his daughter hopefully if she ever decides to sell it. In the mean time I’d like to cover more V8 Buicks as well . Thanks again for watching. 😊

They can’t bring these back cause Buick doesn’t exist anymore! Just name only. I’m a Buick enthusiast as was my friend who owned this car and bought it brand new. He also has a beautiful 70 GS that his daughter now owns and has owned many other Buick powered Buicks through the years. The point to my rambling is, if it don’t have a Buick engine under the hood, it’s not a Buick. Period!! The thought of bringing any legendary Buick back is nothing but pure blasphemy!! However, of Generic Meatheads aka “GM” would ever allow there to be a real Buick Motor Division like there once was, and cast their own engine, I’d be all for it. I’d love to see a new “Buick V8” engine with a procharger or turbo. Sadly Generic Meatheads will never allow it. 😪
