Abandoned 1 Owner 32K Turbo Buick Grand National! Will It Run And Drive Again?
This car was purchased brand new and belonged to one of my best friends and brother from another mother, Randy Crawford who unexpectedly passed 9-4-22.
He abandoned it in his back yard for 12-13 years.
With no scan tools or data, I'm going only on instinct trying to get this car running again. With the 1st cold start in years, it barely made it up onto the trailer after some running and driving.
See the 1st video of the rescue of Randy’s GN here:

Oh man, what a diamond in the ruff. Please keep her stock and black like she was born to be. I've always wanted one of these. My first ride was an 1982 Regal then an 86 but I've never owned a GN. I'd love to have this car. Thanks for for sharing.

If you ever have a problem with getting the key out of the ignition or putting it in, make sure your shifter is all the way forward and try turning the column sleeve.. lesson learned for me involved a new ignition and keys.. hopefully that helps 👍

That's stress in the frame twist from beating on it.. 😁not a paint defect.. they're notorious for that.. look at the back corners behind the trunk lid.. they twist/crack/bubble back there as well 👍 I had an 86 with T-tops best car ever.. when you're 17!

Thanks. Yes I’m very familiar with these cars. Been around them since new. Prefer the V8 Buicks but these are ok too, they are Buicks after all. Sold all my V8 cars and stuck my turbo car in corner when I wanted to keep my ‘72 GS and sell my turbo car back turn of the Millennium. Yes the hardtops where fastened down a little too tight too at the factory. I’ve seen t tops launch out of turbo cars, and usually the right side door starts separating from the striker bolt area. Thank you for watching. Will have more Buick V8 and V6 videos to come.

@@buickdude69 I prefer the muscle car era as well but there was something special about the GN.. you know what I mean you have one.. or two now 😁 I grew up around the old cars.. dad had a 69 GTO, lemans, Impala, Corvette.. my brother had a 69 Z28 a mustang.. I got my license in the late 80's and originally wanted a GTA but the grand national was the one to get.. I bought an 86 with a blown head gasket and turbo and rebuilt the motor.. should have kept her but I had to let her go as I lost my license shortly after I got on the road 😬 too much car for a kid but I sure did have fun in that thing. used to lay down rubber like no other car..used to measure it from telephone pole to pole! used to break the tires loose at 55 if you caught that top part of 2nd gear 🌝 man I miss that car.. Thanks for sharing your journey with this one.. and I'm sorry about your buddy.. I know how difficult it is to lose a real friend so my heart goes out to you.. At least you got the chance to save that car.. wish you could do the same with people but some people can't be fixed.. ya gotta let em go unfortunately.. but, good luck to you.. show us the progress as you go through that beauty! 👍 Thanks so much for the videos! brings me back 🙏

@@buickdude69 oh hey, if you hit a snag look up Stage 1 Automotive.. they're in NJ.. the owner, Rob is probably the best guy on the planet when it comes to anything Buick, but those GN's he knows every nut and bolt on that car.. they also do specialty work he's a whiz on porting and polishing, and basically everything else mechanical 😁 take care

Also, right above the rear window on the roof corners.. if it was beat on, raced, or your buddy liked to melt the tires you'll find stress cracks.. when they were building the car they did a concept with a 5 spd manual.. it literally twisted the frame like a pretzel from all the torque twist! 😬

This was my best friends car who bought it brand new and abandoned it in his backyard over a divorce. I inherited it after he passed. I did do the work on the car you asked about. The Dash/ instrument cluster was sent to Dennis Kirban who had someone, possibly John Spina/Casper’s who recalibrated the speedo and then put a tape like overlay over the 85 MPH speedo. The gauges are auto meter . I got the console and pillar gauge holders/pods from Kirban as well. This was in 1998. Thank you for watching.

Thank you for watching. Back in the day I jumped on the GN but wished I’d got a T-Type. Another friend bought a GN, took it to the body shop and had it repainted with just a couple 100 miles on it, cause like me he hated black too. That’s one thing I love about the old V8 Buicks back in the day, they came in multiple colors. Even the GSX was available in Yellow for ‘70. Most likely I’ll keep it the original “Buick” color.

Cool, yeah that’d be nice. Have to warn ya though, I’m a Buick guy not a GN guy or should I say not a Chevy guy that likes GNs. I got stuck with my GN over 20 years ago when i was down to only 2 Buicks. The GN and a ‘72 GS. Wanted to keep the GS but someone wanted it more than I did when I offered it out there to the Buick crowd. Then my buddy passed and left me his. That was a shock but I’m hoping to buy his GS from his daughter if she will ever sell it. Thanks for watching too. 👍😊

Lol, I appreciate your compassion! I’m not a GN guy, a Gbody guy, or a GM/Generic Meatheads guy. I’m a “Buick” guy. That means all Buicks that are Buick powered or anything else that has a Buick engine under the hood. Though I prefer the Buick 350 and 455, I like the turbo cars though I wished I’d got a T-Type back in the day new. Ask any Buick guy that knows me and they’d tell you I’ve said for years ‘if anything happens to that car (my GN) I’ll paint it red or blue, ‘chrome the bumpers, 86 grill in it, T-Type wheels and have me a counterfeit. Out of respect for my friend and Buick brother that owned the car new, I’ll go back with the original Buick color. On a side note, the friend I mentioned at the end of the video that has a Porsche Guard red T-Type? It’s a ‘86 Designer Series he bought brand new as well. Dropped it off a cliff in Knoxville TN about a year old. Insurance company totaled it. He bought back and went back red with it. Been red ever since. Beautiful car! I’ll have a video of it in the next few months. Thanks for watching 👍😎

It was also available in the T-Type and Turbo-T which came in multi colors, and are my favs over these. I jumped on the black ones/GN back in the day but wish I would have held out for a blue one. A friend of mine bought a GN brand new in '87, drove it straight from the dealer to the body shop and had it painted blue back in the day. True story. Picked it up from paint, took it to a Michelin tire store and had new tires put on it. Those Goodyear tires he still has today. Just sold the car a few years ago. 😀

I understand exactly what you are saying 👍. To answer your question about my GN, those that know me know that I have said for close to 30 years that if anything ever happened to the car (accident, etc) the color would get changed to red or blue (counterfeit T-Type) and wouldn’t be an original Buick shade of blue or red either. Chrome the bumpers and T-Type wheels to finish it off. Being this is my friends car at this point , and from all the responses I’ll most likely leave it factory color. Then, that leaves the question, put it back stock or leave it the way he had it when he left? Clean and mint though like it was before he abandoned it in his backyard. That’s now my dilemma. Thank you for watching.
